Had these guys recommended to us to come unclog a kitchen drain. He asked to come early but still…read morearrived an hour late, started ripping apart the drain without a bucket to catch the water and then laying the nasty dirty pipes on our 6' long woven kitchen mat, rather than a blanket, a paper towel or even the tile floor. The snake did not work and actually got stuck for awhile but that's because the pipes were very bad & could not be unclogged as it was legitimately bad 70 yr old galvanized pipes completely corroded and blocked. So, after multiple methods & tries, I agreed that we needed to replace about 10' of old galvanized pipe with PVC and the basic older PVC drain components under the sink. Understandably, they could not come back until the following day since the scope of work had changed. The actual plumber (very nice guy, decent work, but VERY MESSY) scheduled his return for 8:30 the next day, and estimated 4 hrs of work for $1,100 + materials, tbd. As we were left without a kitchen sink, since he got us in for the next morning & was recommended by a friend and fellow plumber, I agreed to the high labor estimate, knowing it there was a chance that it could take more than 4 hrs and signed for the labor, while my wife spent 2 hrs that night cleaning our kitchen mat from drain grease. Next morning, I had to go to work so my wife took the day off. Midmorning, I'm getting texts from her asking for his number as no one had shown up and I had not heard anything. Again, over an hour late, but shows up and gets the job done in about 2.5 hrs. As he's leaving, he asks for almost $1,500. She says, ok, please just give me the break-down for the materials. He has to call the office, puts my wife on the phone with the brother who refuses to provide an itemized list of material costs. Plumber leaves, wife pays the agreed upon labor charge of $1,100 for 4 hrs that took 2.5, no questions asked. Wife says she will pay materials, even marked up materials, if she is given a breakdown (again, this was 10' of 2-1/2" PVC and a few fittings). Mind you, I'm an Executive Construction Project Manager for nearly 20 yrs. I receive an email with a list of random items, no prices, including boxes of rags, latex gloves, boxes of glue, etc. I tell wife to get a real breakdown before settling after already paying the inflated labor cost. My wife then receives a barrage of texts threatening escalation unless "agreed upon" material costs are not paid...but no materials were agreed upon and they refused to provide material details. I get out of work and start receiving the same texts...for hundreds of dollars of materials that they refuse to itemize. On top of that, the mess left was insane and I later found he left a 6" piece of old nasty piping in the wall that I had opened up for them, stinking up the bsmt, dripping old grease down the walls. Never again...talk about choosing their battles Talk about choosing your battles...and knowing when to stop arguing with customers.

Update: This company went from a great experience, to the worst experience. My secondary heat…read moresource went out during the winter and I called for a service checkup. After about 15 minutes of work I was told the condenser had to be replaced due to mice chewing the electrical wires. I could understand this. Here is where the issue comes in. The technician first said it would be $3400 to replace. He then went to his truck and came back to tell my wife it would actually be $8,000, but they added a discount so I would Pay $6,000. The total cost of the whole install (condenser unit + 4 wall units) was 12,000. So just to replace the condenser is over half the cost of the initial install. I called to complain and spoke with the service manager. The service manager essentially explained to me that this was accurate because if they did the install today it would be 23,000. So they evidently had a 100% price increase. I then explained the invoice showed the unit itself as 2,000 and then labor as 6,000. He explained to me that was untrue, that due to the new invoice system they have, they can just put numbers anywhere essentially, so I should ignore the invoice. I explained my frustration and how that does not make any sense and I am not paying 6,000 for a condenser and labor. He said he understood and would escalate it higher and I would get a call later that day or the next. It's going on 3 days now and I have not heard back. This company went from one of my top rated to near highway robbery. I cannot reccomend them to anyone at this point, and will need to look into alternatives to get my heat back in the winter.

Pipe Doctor Plumbing Service - Old leaky water heater.

I called Julian owner/operator (licensed plumber) of the Pipe Doctor Plumbing Service when I…read morenoticed numerous water stains on my ground floor ceiling, which was directly below my 2nd floor bathroom sink. Julian was responsive and returned my call within 30 minutes and setup a visit for the same day, later that afternoon. The issue was corrosion of the supply valve on the sink, which was leaking under the cabinets. Julian provided a fair price for the repair and was extremely efficient and worked clean. He was respectful of our home and took precautions such as shoe coverings and drop cloths. We are extremely happy with the repair and it was successful. We also had another repair made, unrelated to the first issue and again utilized the Pipe Doctor. This required removed of a section of ceiling due to a pipe leak within the ceiling section. Julian inquired if I had a water test performed, since I was on well water. I had recently requested a water tests and the results reflected a ph of 6.3 (7.0 being optimal). After inspection of pipes in the basement and the ph results, Julian informed me that the issue is due to acidic water quality impacting the copper pipes. Julian was able to repair the leak but advised that the issues may continue if I don't treat the water. I appreciated the feedback and confirmed the issue with a well water company. I truly appreciate the option of dealing directly with an owner/operator (licensed plumber). In addition Julian is fair, responsive and a very experienced plumber. I would recommend The Pipe Doctor Plumbing Service and we plan to use his services again for a bathroom renovation.

He said it wasn't worth his time to come out for such a minor fix and instead recommended replacing the entire toilet, to make it worth his while. Upon reaching out to another local plumbing business, they determined it was an easy fix and came out same day to fix it, at a much lower cost, since we didn't actually need to replace the entire toilet. Very disappointed in the longstanding relationship we had with Julian, but happy to go elsewhere (Avon Plumbing) where they're actually willing to do the job.

Every area he worked in was cleaned & cleared special for him to work. Ge flooded & damaged kitchen. There were no doggie pee pads or anything in his way. There was a new package of dog supplies near the front door, NEW nothing dirty. He is lying about 3 other plumbers coming. Absolute lie. I received several quotes but only had him come & now have to hire a good, honest, person to clean up his mess. I had a plumbing leak on second floor& things are tore up which i explained thing ls were a mess. Nothing was in his way to perform work. It is not garbage but boxes of things needing moved as upper floor & ceiling is tore up for major leak repairs. We are also downsizing & many boxes are going to goodwill. I explained all this to him. Just because he's a terrible businessman that can't be on time, lied about having parts & did poor repairs is no reason to act vindictive like a 2 year old & try to besmerch me. His attack proves he lacks temperament to provide service to his customers. What I showed him extra was additional work I would need after leak & damage is repaired. It only took a couple minutes & it would have been future work for him had he been any good. I got very little for what I paid. He didn't bring or replace part I called about. He didn't even have a bank account to send money to. What kind of business has no bank account? He did seem desperate for work having to come so far out of his area for work & not having dependable transportation. A simple call back from him could have resolved issues but that was too much to expect due to his character. Maybe he'll learn & mature by his mistakes so he builds a reputable business.
