Oregon Wine Cottage - Relax in our soaking tub for TWO

    Oregon Wine Cottage

First, the Oregon Wine Cottage is wonderfully maintained and furnished. The house is extremely…read morecomfortable for two couples. The owners take pride in furnishing the house. The beds were great. The bathrooms clean and functioning. The living room well appointed. Walls freshly painted. It's a great rental for the Willamette Valley area. In addition the owner was easy to work with and very pleasant. The kitchen was modern and the appliances very new. The property does not have a bbq but the owner when I asked about a bbq provided a small beach bbq. Not what I would use, but nonetheless a very nice gesture on her part. There is one minor complaint that I am sure it will be remedied after the owners reads this. Their website says "Please note, the kitchen comes with the right tools and service ware, you will need to provide all of the food." This is not quite accurate. We found no pots and the skillets were older and of poor quality. For $200.00 the owner could go to Costco and reoutfit the house with new pots and pans and a few utensils. I suspect they will do so after reading this because I believe they are do care about their customers' stay. This obviously is not a problem if you only eat at restaurants. In summary, I highly recommend this rental though I hope the owners will take my small complaint to heart. Five stars when they upgrade the pots and pans. Bill

We stayed here on our wedding night and we are headed back there again this week only four months later. There is nothing better than taking the short walk down to the fabulous bars and restaurants of McMinnville and then being able to walk home to the sweet and oh-so-comfy Oregon Wine Cottage. We plan to go back many, many, many times over.

Douglas On Third - Owner's Suite #8 bedroom

    Douglas On Third

We decided to make McMinnville our "home base" when visiting the Willamette Valley. The main part…read moreof the town is on 3rd street, the same as Douglas on Third! The location could not get any better. It is so convenient to all of the stores and restaurants. Our unit was like a small apartment. One small room with a couch, high bar table, small fridge, sink and microwave. That small room led to a pass through toilet/shower room. The shower was tiny and the doors to the toilet/shower room were just sliding barn doors so you literally hear everything in there (not sure if I'm a fan of that part). After walking through the shower/toilet room, you hit your bedroom. It was a nice size. For those with mobility issues, there is no elevator and the units are all on the second floor so you will need to climb stairs. Communication with Douglas on Third was excellent. They had very detailed email information on how to access the building, how to access your room, parking, etc. You may also text them to communicate. I would absolutely stay here again!

They do respond to complaints, but otherwise it is a DIY operation. Access is with coded door locks. They have excellent free self-parking, but they do not have an elevator to reach the rooms on the second floor. It's actually a flight and a half to the top of the stairs. Decent size guest rooms although ours was an unusual layout. Bathroom sink is in a tiny closet. Unexpected small steps between bedroom and entry area guaranteed to trip the unsuspecting guest on the way to the toilet - in the dark. Their excellent plush towels make up for the tiny shower stall with a shower curtain instead of a glass door. Room #3 has a view of a partially enclose narrow space between the building exterior wall. Somewhere inside this space there is an exhaust fan, probably from the Thai restaurant, that pumps out incredibly strong cooking odors beginning at 6am. Fortunately, they are closed Sundays, so we had one night of relief. They have a small lobby halfway between the ground floor and the guest rooms. Sometimes they have background music and coffee available, sometimes not. Overall, I think the room rates, ours was $300-$330 / night are too high. However, there are not a lot of options in McMinnville near 3rd street.
