They have interesting flavors you don't typically see at dessert shops. I tried the caramel apple cupcake and have to say it smells JUST like one when you open the container. However when you bite into it (in my opinion) it tastes more of like a spiced carrot cake. The cake itself is moist though, which is always good. I ordered the white cake with raspberry filling and white chocolate icing. The reason for 4 stars is all I got was a plain white cake and no raspberry filling. I think 3 stars is spot on. The shop itself is very cute and bright. They seem to market towards the younger crowd with ads of little kids on the walls. They are definitely targeting a different demographic than Cupcake Royale. The cupcakes themselves are very cute and creative. I was especially impressed with the pumpkin decoration on one the pumpkin cupcakes which I took a picture of here. I had the Red Velvet ($3). I enjoyed the frosting but the cake wasn't that good in my opinion. It was dry and crumbly, not light and moist like cake should be. You should savor every bite of the cake and I found the cake to just be a vehicle for the frosting. I had a bite of my friend's caramel apple cupcake. It was tasty but very sweet. That cupcake was $4. I have to admire the beautiful decorating skills that go into the cupcakes but I don't think their cake delivers. Side note: There was a poster of a little girl who was very cute and smiling but it creeped me out because she had heavy smokey eye make up in the picture. She was so nice and thoughtful that I assumed she was the owner. Her customer service made me so glad to use them for my son's wedding. I was expecting something comparable to Trophy or Cupcake Royale in Seattle (both of which are awesome,) what I got was an overly sweet, pretty, but pretty underwhelming $3 cupcake I could have made myself. Honest to God these taste like they came from either a) a boxed mix, or b) the ones you get six for $3.50 at the grocery store. It was not worth the $3, at all. I got the Bananas Foster flavor, and my friend got chocolate with salted caramel, we both agreed that we had surely had substantially better, and could have made something equally as good, if not better, ourselves. The frosting is just pure sugar. Not creamy or anything. It just wasn't good. The cupcake was at least relatively moist, but again, seemed waaaaay too sugary. (and I'm a sugar-lover) I felt like my blood sugar shot through the roof after eating mine. Blech. Won't be back. Re-work your recipes, give me something that I couldn't make myself, and I might give you another try! read more

The cupcake fad is in it's death throes and the frequently empty Pinkabella is evidence of this. Even on weekends. That's bleak. A few years ago, I succumbed and the quality was there. I'm a former pastry chef and have made too much buttercream, so I notice the good stuff. And it was good! But I suspect with decline in popularity, they're cutting corners and the quality control has been lost. Dry and rubbery cake means it was old and someone overmixed the batter. The frosting was also "off" - still buttercream but a lower quality of butter being used? This is an extremely difficult thing to do because we're talking about production. Every red velvet cupcake must taste the same and that's hard to do consistently. Pinkabella has been slipping. read more

I have a hard time paying $3 for a cupcake. But I pay more than that for a cup of coffee, so when I saw PinkaBella at the Alderwood Mall, I thought I'd give it a shot. I wish I'd just kept on walking. We tried two types: salted caramel and cookie dough. The cookie dough was topped with an ice cream scoop of frosting -- a good start if, like me, you like frosting. But then I tasted it. I'm not sure what was in the frosting, but somebody forgot the cookie dough. It mostly tasted like butter or shortening, and left an unpleasant film on the room of my mouth like I'd eaten peanut butter (except peanut butter tastes a lot better). The cake was a reasonably moist but was smaller than other high-end cupcakes I've had at other shops. Salted caramel was a touch better, but nothing to write home about. It's a cute shop with a great location. But they've really got to work on their cupcake frosting. read more

I walked by Pinkabella at Alderwood today and couldn't resist. Next time I walk by, I think it'll be easy. I bought a white cake with raspberry frosting and a salted caramel. When I took my first bite of that white raspberry, I was immediately disappointed. The frosting was extremely sugary sweet and the cake was super dry. IT TASTED EXACTLY LIKE A CUPCAKE YOU CAN BUY IN THE BAKERY SECTION OF QFC OR SAFEWAY! You know, that artificial flavor? I gave the rest to my husband and now I'm eating the salted caramel. The cake is still dry and I really can't taste any fresh ingredients...only loads of sugar. The rest of my fellow yelpers are right: small, dry cake, topped with a load of sugary frosting. I've been here a few times, once on my birthday. The cupcakes are mediocre, for a storefront there isn't that much selection. The customer service was pretty bad, 2 girls texting, going in the back, we watched customers walk in and just wait and wait for someone to help them but no one came out so they left.... I think the frosting is good but the cupcake itself is pretty bad. I bake quite often at home and these cupcakes tasted almost...old? I don't know....the cake isn't moist or dry it's just....strange? I really, really want to like this place. I just bought a dozen cupcakes for a whopping $33 only for my family to like only a couple of them. Bottom Line: If you're going to specialize in Cupcakes you gotta make a GREAT one, or at least a good one. There's too much competition out there (Cupcake Royale, New York Cupcakes, Cake Envy, Trophy Cupcakes, etc.) to be priced that high for such low quality. Dear Margot, Karlene, and Pinkabella, You made my granddaughter Cora's 3rd birthday so special with her pretty Rainbow Unicorn Cake. Karlene worked with me to come up with the wonderful Rainbow Unicorn Design. The Vanilla frosting with Rainbow swirls and chocolate chocolate chip cake were out of this world. So they pretty much stick a ping pong ball sized dollop of frosting on the top of their cupcakes. This is totally ok with me, I freaking LOVE frosting, I'm the fat girl who will actually just buy frosting shots and eat those. And if you don't love frosting, scrape some off! I had the root beer float cupcake. The frosting tasted delicious. It was absolutely a spot on re-creation of root beer float foam. But the texture, man, it was like oil melting in my mouth. Eeeep! Taste awesome, texture, not so much. Here's my biggest gripe though, and this goes for most places, why can't you do anything different with the cake? This is cake I can make 24 of for less than the 3 bucks that this cupcake cost me. Do new things with cake! It's easy to flavor frosting, but if you can make cake different that's awesome. A short word on atmosphere. Super cute, a little girls paradise, really. Since it's in the promenade portion of the mall you can go sit outside in the sun and enjoy your cupcake surrounded by green things and fountains. Always nice. Was walking through the mall and passed this place. We were getting a little antsy and tired so what better than a sugary pick-me-up? In terms of cupcake flavours, I agree with the other Yelpers that PinkaBella can probably afford to be more adventurous in their cake flavours. The frostings have multiple flavours but (at the time) the available cake bases were vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet. The frostings, however, included chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and lemon. We ordered a red velvet cupcake to share since the mound of frosting was humongous, and it was just the right amount of sugar between the two of us. The cream cheese frosting is very very sweet, and doesn't have a really strong cream cheese flavour. The cupcake was not too dry, but not super moist (perhaps they are trying to cut down on that oily after-texture that others have complained about). Overall it was a decent cupcake. Prices for the cupcakes are about the same as other cupcake shops I've visited, at $3 each. read more

Not impressed with these cupcakes. I've been to numerous cupcake shops all over the country, and this place ranks the worst. The icing was way too rich and sweet, almost to the point of being inedible. The selection of cupcakes was very limited, with maybe 6 or 7 different flavors at the most. I was really surprised by the lack of creativity in the cupcakes. The cupcakes themselves all look the same, with either brown, white or pink frosting. When you walk in the store, you're overwhelmed with all the other non-related merchandise for sale on the walls, and it looks like 20 or 30 cupcakes to sell in the glass case, and they all look the same. You'll find much tastier and cheaper cupcakes at your local grocery store bakery. And for $3 per cupcake it certainly wasn't worth it! read more

I ordered two dozen cupcakes for my son's 6th birthday online. I decided to go with the S'mores and Peanut Butter Cup flavors. Service was quick; maybe an hour or so after I submitted my online order I received a call from the store to go over the details. The woman on the phone was friendly, which seems to be a rare occurrence when it comes to customer service so I appreciated that. The total was about $75 which seemed like a lot to me, but it was my first time ordering cupcakes from a specialty bakery so I thought maybe that's the norm. At first when I tried the cupcakes I thought there was too much frosting and the cupcake itself was too dry. I found that the key to eating these cupcakes is for each bite to have about the same amount of cupcake and frosting in it. If you eat them that way they're perfect and delicious. So, good cupcakes, but for the price I don't think I'll get more. Maybe I'll try other cupcake bakeries and update my review later on, but until then 3 stars seems about right. read more

These are great cupcakes. They are super moist and they come in fun flavors. We got a dozen and I got to try a few. The Guinness was so-so. They were missing some of the flavor of Guinness. I have recently had the opportunity to test cupcakes from a couple of different places. From PinkaBella I had the chocolate peanut butter and the white with vanilla frosting. The chocolate with peanut butter was good. The cake was moist the frosting could have had a little more peanut butter flavor, but it was sweet and rich. I give this cupcake 4 stars. The white cake with vanilla frosting is a little different story. Maybe it's because this is my favorite kind of cake, but the cake wasn't as good as I was expecting. It wasn't moist and it didn't really have a distinctive flavor. The icing was sweet and rich, but not particularly vanilla. I'd give this cupcake 2 stars. Overall I give PinkaBella at Alderwood 3 stars, the average of the stars for each cupcake. read more
