I had been to this salon several times a few years ago but the quality of the salon has gone WAY down recently. Today I went in to get my pink & white acrylic set soaked off and get a gel manicure on my real nails. Because it was a Friday and they were somewhat busy, they seemed in a huge rush to get me in and out. While I waited, I looked at the selection of gel polish on the wheel of fake nails and chose the number corresponding to the color polish I wanted. It was a very pale pink that almost looked white. They let my nails soak for a bit, then a nail tech took an acrylic tip and began using it to scrape the acrylic off of my nail. It was excruciatingly painful, which I made very clear and the nail tech did not stop. She proceeded to do this for all 10 fingers even though it was horribly painful. Once that was done, the owner/manager came over with the polish I asked for and......it looked nothing like the polish I asked for. It was a much darker pink, and come to find out it had glitter in it. It was a completely different color. He essentially pressured me into getting that color because they did not have the color I asked for. Why not at least suggest that I get something similar? I did not even know that I would hate the color so much because gel is not always the same in the bottle as it is on your nails. The nail tech did a horribly sloppy job and did not even give me the full manicure that I was made to pay for. My cuticles weren't pushed back, she pretended to quickly cut my cuticles while not even actually touching them. My nails that were long and beautiful were torn apart by her forcefully ripping the acrylic off of them and I was left with short, stubby nails. They were cut in completely different lengths, and the entire job was super rushed and half-assed. I will never come here again. I am not usually one to complain on websites like this about nail salons because I'm not picky at all. I just want good service, nothing special. I could have saved my money and done a much better gel manicure myself! They overcharged me for a crappy job and I advise everyone to take your business elsewhere. I wish I could give less than a star. I went here for the first time this morning for just a simple manicure. There was a wait, which I was fine with. I'm 30 weeks pregnant and sat in one of their uncomfortable wooden chairs for 40 minutes, and then they kept taking others waiting before me who came in after me without acknowledging me or updating me as to why my wait was longer than others. I left without a manicure because the women in the chairs already were staring at me looking upset for me. I am new to the area and looking for a place for regular manicures, you just lost a potential repeat customer. Thank you for nothing. read more

I went to pink nails after reading such positive reviews. I really wish I would have saved myself the trouble and the $25. Let me start with the fact that the whole pedicure literally lasted 16 mins....I know this for sure bc I looked at my phone when sitting in the chair. They left half the nail polish on when they were supposed to remove it, and when I asked them to scrub my feet a little more in the dry areas they told me for that I would have to pay $47 for the spa pedicure. When I asked to speak with management they told me I was free to leave if I didn't like the pedicure but would have to pay. They justified it by saying everyone likes a different type of pedicure. I personally don't know anyone who would want to pay the same amount and have their feet scrubbed for half as long as every other place in town. They were not the least bit interested in making me a repeat customer. Big mistake on their part as I get pedicures at least once a month which equals $300 on me alone. That may not seem like much, but I always go with at least 1 friend or like today with 2 so that's $600-$900. read more

I went there Friday because a friend recommended this place. Every one was kind and friendly. I want to say the owner is the only man there. He had one of his employees giving him a massage and just sat around answering phones. I guess that is what you can do as an owner. It is about $25 for a pedicure. I had Mary. She was great! She took her time scrubbing my very dry feet, asked about temperature of water and how I liked my nails cut. She gave me a fantastic hot rock massage. I'll be going back there again. read more

Went here for the first time on Sunday. The woman who was clearly in charge seemed annoyed to assist me and more interested in what was on her phone. After some prodding, she waxed my eyebrows, which she did well but it was nothing to write home about. Then she pulled someone who was clearly less experienced than her off of a client (who I got was a regular) and put her on me while she finished the other girl. The girl gave me a decent pedi and had really strong hands, so I asked for a longer massage and she did a great job and even brought out hot stones. After that I was getting a gel mani and it seemed like only one woman there knew how to do it, so I had to wait about 20 minutes which no one told me in advance. I then got my gel mani which was alright, but I'm used to it being more even and spreading close to the edges of my nail. Several times while I was there, people came in and were barely greeted or helped unless they were clearly regulars. My biggest problem with the place overall was the customer service in general. The work was suitable, but there are plenty of other decent places with nicer people! read more

I will start by saying that I've gotten great manicures at Pink Nails but unfortunately it is an establishment that discriminates against black people. As sad as I am to write this review I feel I must. I have been frequenting Pink Nails for about a year and, like I mentioned, I've generally received good service until recently. The manager (and possibly the owner) a man humiliated, embarrassed and disrespected me last Friday. I called earlier that day to make an appointment with my preferred nail technician and he made an appointment for me for 3:30 pm. When I arrived at 3:30 pm the shop was very busy. He told me that he had made a mistake and that she had another appointment at that time but that I could wait. I agreed to wait to see whomever was free. After I arrived, two other young ladies arrived who (based on appearance) were not black. He quickly asked them to select nail colors while I sat between them and he offered me nothing (although I had arrived before). I did notice that he told a few other women that he would not be able to help them and gave them $5 gift certificates asking them to come back later. After several minutes passed three school-aged white girls came in and they went right to looking at nail colors although they did not appear to have appointments.. Several more minutes passed and he approached me and asked me STEP OUTSIDE TO SPEAK WITH HIM!!!!! I was embarrassed but allowed him to escort me outside. He told me that he the shop was too busy as more people had arrived and asked me to reschedule my appointment. I have never been escorted out of a nail shop and asked to leave, especially after I had called to make an appointment (which he cancelled once I got there). I was shocked and too humiliated to disagree so I allowed him to make another appointment for me all whilst the others-who had arrived after me and had not been asked to leave-watched. I try to be thoughtful before I throw around words like "prejudice" and "racist" but I have no other way to explain this incident. I have seen it on other occasions in the shop in smaller ways and this was the final straw. I will never return to Pink Nails for service and I urge people of color to find another establishment that respects non-white individuals and our buying potential. I plan to take my hard-earned money elsewhere and I urge you to do the same. Whilst the nail clinicians are good, the manager and owner has a clear preference for white customers. I write this review in the hopes that you will be spared the embarrassment and disrespect that I experienced. My angry feelings are outweighed by sadness that in 2017 this kind of issues even impact something as basic as getting your nails done. After my experience at this salon I felt compelled to write a review especially after a very poor experience I had at my usual spot. Pink Nails made up for everything! I got the Green tea spa pedicure and it was exactly what I was looking for! Just relaxation and pampering. Angelica waited on me and she was the sweetest girl...we had friendly conversation but she also let me sit quietly to relax - she gave a great massage and was very clean and efficient. I also had a manicure that was nicely done. There is a great selection of OPI and Essie colors; they also offer gel manicures. I just got regular polish but I know that the other ladies in the salon were happy with their gel manicures. There is music in the background set low and one TV with subtitles, no sound which I can appreciate. Pedicure chairs appeared to be in great condition and had massage remotes with no broken buttons or pieces. Everything is clean and orderly; all of the furniture matches and is in good condition. mismatched and "patched up" furniture and manicure/pedicure stations is always an immediate red flag for me of a place that isn't very clean, and if it's not clean that means the staff isn't clean and they show no pride in their workplace and therefore no pride in their work either! Nice, convenient location with plenty of parking - this salon is always busy on the weekend (good sign) so if you want a quiet and relaxing time to treat yourself I suggest going on a weekday morning; it's not so busy for obvious reasons. Susan is the absolute best. I'm the type to get my nails done at a different salon every time I just "feel like" a manicure but I'll be darned if I'm not sitting there with Susan every two weeks. Salon is lovely, all the employees are very kind and helpful, lots of selection. I can't speak for the other technicians but Susan does an amazing job. Always doing just a little extra to show how much she cares. She's stellar and I'd highly recommend her to anyone! Pink is tops! read more

After receiving a nice response from the owner I thought "what heck!" Let me give them another try. I thought maybe the service would have improved since the owner took the time to email me personally...well it hasnt!!! Unfortunately, I cant give them any more stars this time either. For the second time they completed my manicure in record time of 12 mins, still just talked to one another in a language I can not understand, and the women nipped my cuticle...which let's be honest can be worrisome. I highly recommend this salon. I had a spa pedicure as a treat and it was well worth the money and the time. The calllus remover treatment was a must after a long winter and my feet felt and looked spectacular afterwards. I was even followed out and handed a $5 gift certificate to return, which I most defintely will. I only missed having my shoulders rubbed while drying. read more

This place is TERRIBLE . The women here REPEATEDLY cut my cuticles to the point where I was profusely bleeding. Even after five minutes of me bleeding they did not even apologize or offer to give me my money back! Got a manicure there and felt very rushed. My manicure was done in about 10 minutes. She didn't soak my hands, and barely cleaned my cuticles. She also didn't clean up the extra nail polish around my fingers. Very disappointing especially when you are looking forward to getting a nice manicure. Went for a pedicure today with my daughter. My friend goes to Pink and had suggested this salon. Mary and Judy did our pedicures and I have to say it was the BEST pedicure I have ever gotten! The place is impeccably clean. And the best part: I could speak my native language, Spanish, which is really important to me! Thank you so much Mary: my feet look great! Is 0 stars possible? Worst nail salon experience ever! My friend took me for a mani pedi for my birthday. The staff was so incredibly rude, blatantly talking about all their customers. Clearly unhappy with their jobs. Sighing, complaining, acting as if we were inconveniencing them by being there. They truly seemed miserable. To the point we were so uncomfortable. To add insult to injury, they did a terrible job. My toes nails were cut so short and crooked, they actually hurt today. My friend's hands painted so poorly my 9 year old could have done better! Went to Pink Nails for a simple manicure. Donna rushed through it because a customer came in a minute after I sat down and asked for her. My nails polish was lumpy and thick on a few nails and my nails were not filed/shaped correctly. The dryer lasted longer than my manicure. A few hours after I left the lumpy nails had chipped and peeled. I ended up taking the polish off and re-doing it myself. The worse manicure I've ever had. Polish Change-- a service they offer. I've had polish changes many times from multiple places and I have never been treated so rudely! And they were not even busy. The woman actually said to me "you said polish change, not manicure," because I asked her to even out ONE nail. I used to visit Pink Nails on a normal basis and see a Hispanic nail tech who did my nails beautifully I was happy every visit. Unfortunately I had to stop getting my nails done because it was getting costly. Less than 2 weeks ago I went back thinking I was going to be satisfied once again with their services. I had a different nail tech do a full set of UV gel with tips. She first told me the cost would be $80 I said that is too expensive and I never paid that much there before so she then said I can do it for $70 today. That should of been a red flag to me right there. I was in the mood to treat myself so I went with it. When I left not even an hour later I noticed they were not smooth and I felt like I was rushed out. She told me I wouldn't need a fill for 3 weeks. Now it hasn't even been 2 weeks and they are already lifting to the point of almost popping off! If you get your nails done here make sure you go to the right nail tech or you will be ripped off and have crappy nails! read more

I don't know why I keep coming here, the bad outweigh the good by far. yes sometimes I get a good paint job but more often then not my nails look like I did them which is not what I am paying for. I agree with one of the comments saying they barely spend 10 minutes for pedis and when they are done my toes don't look that good (not worth the money). The people there seemed to be bothered that you are taking your business there and in turn are rude and rush to get you out. Just a couple of weeks ago I got acrylics there to which they did a good paint job but they did not listen when I said I wanted a round nail and just did what they wanted. All in all they overcharged for a service I was not happy with. I then came back the next week to get my nails done for another function, I payed $20 for a french manicure. my lady scrubbed my nails so hard the my fingers started bleeding and she didn't even get all the polish off at the edge of my acrylic. The lady then just put a clear polish of and started painting the french tips even thought the old polish was clearly still there, I then asked where the pink french polish was? she then resisted putting the correct polish on but did it anyway, however, she put one coat on and didn't even paint the whole nail, I was still too clear so I asked if I could pick another color she (sounding annoyed) let me pick another color, yet again wanting to skimp out and only put one coat on and yet again not even covering the whole nail. She then put the french tips on which covered at least half of my nail (the point of a french mani is having a nice thin line) they were also streaky and uneven. So not only were my nails not manicured if I hadn't said anything I would have a clear polish with streaks of burgundy clearly shown underneath, which is in my mind beyond cheap looking and very poor customer service. read more

I have visited this salon in three separate occasions and each time I have been more and more disappointed. Since I have only been there 3 times, I feel as though the workers do not care about you unless you are a frequent customer. This is an odd thing to me because someone who gets their nails done often, you would think they would want the additional customers. I called the salon to make an appointment after work and they states they would be open until 830 and I had called at 530, giving me plenty of time to get my toes and nails done. After waiting 15 minutes to get service, even though I had an appointment, the total time I was waited on was about 45 minutes from start to finish. The quality of the pedicure was unacceptable and the manicure was rushed due to the fact that my technician needed to leave to pick her kids up from the babysitting, which was at 715. I did not appreciate the service, nor did I appreciate the prices because they barely did anything I couldn't already do myself. I will definitely not be returning to this salon! read more

!! Aweful !! My friend and I went to pink nails for the first time last week. I had a mani and my girlfriend had a pedi. The lady that did my nails (Latina) did a half fast job and painted my nails too far from the cuticles. It looked like my nails had grown for 2 weeks. It was after work and I could not stay to have her fix them. Everyone around us were getting massages but we were neglected. That was a friday, by Sunday 3 of my nails had chipped. I went back on Monday after work to have them fixed. The Asian lady that attended me asked me if my nails had grown that much in 3 days, I told her thats how they were painted. So, instead of removing the polish, she painted right over the chips and polished them to the cuticle, it wasnt even the same color. I was not charged. By the next morning they had chipped again, right where they had chipped before and my girlfriends toes were also chipped. I will never go to Pink Nails in Hamden, CT ever again.
