We stopped by this place right as it opened. The cocktails were great (the Kate Winslet, the Gordon Ramsey) and the service was impeccable. The best part, hands down, were the bartenders. We asked them for places to see in Montreal, and together they came up with a list of great bars and food spots. Everything they recommended was amazing. Their friendliness and humor inspired us to tackle the best Montreal had to offer (and what to avoid). Hats off to the Ping Pong club, you guys rock! Going by the captions when I hover above the star ratings, this place deserves one star. Originally I went with two stars, but I realized that this is misleading - the place deserves one star, it's gonna get one star. While I appreciate the reviews from other Yelpers describing this place as a fun hang with cool staff, I can't say I've yet had a similar experience here. Cards on the table, I only came for one thing, but I think the way the staff treats you even if you order a single frivolous item says a lot about the attitude in general. Some of you already know what the one thing is, if you know me, and I have nothing to hide - it's a milkshake. Now, I understand it's not called "Milkshake Club", and I can't give you insight into the quality of the food they serve because I haven't had it yet, but given the treatment I received on two occasions, I'm so turned off I don't even want to try what looks like some interesting menu items. Montreal, to my chagrin, is not a big milkshake drinking city. I know, somebody break out the world's tiniest violin. So I get it even if I go to a diner-style place and get turned down, they don't offer it, and that's fair. On the other hand, there are plenty of places that do serve the drink, maybe just average quality because it's a niche thing, and that's fair too. What I'm not happy with is when a place has an item on their menu, and gives a customer a hard time for ordering it. Tell me if I'm wrong, I can handle it, but am I not paying for a service? I didn't ask them to inconvenience themselves, yet on multiple occasions different staff members here sighed audibly and told me to my face that it's a hassle to make and they didn't want to do it. The metaphorical cherry on top is that after all this, the milkshake they condescended to serve me was really bland, overpriced, and disappointing. Fair is fair, so after the first time this happened, I figured I'd give them at least a second chance. I waited a few weeks, and returned a few days ago. The same thing happened. On both occasions, the club was about half full, and the staff behind the bar weren't occupied, they were mainly standing around and chatting. I didn't see any signs of a rush, or anything obvious to explain the reaction I got. The point I'm making is that though I know I can be trying at times (just reading to then end of this review must be trying), I don't enjoy being treated with disdain. Restaurants, bars, and clubs, are all a service industry. Any customer should be able to order any menu item, even only one frivolous thing, and be treated with courtesy. Now that my rant is over, I'm going to go somewhere else and hopefully have a REAL milkshake, from a server who doesn't think they have better things to do. read more

Ping Pong Club - Lackluster chocolate milkshake - Bars Near Me - Montreal, Quebec

I liked this place a lot actually! I admit to having made fun of the idea of a Ping Pong Club with only one ping pong table, and I do still think that's blatantly goofy, but now I find it endearing. The staff are super nice and easy going, and the room is good looking: booths and long communal tables, white and wood, ping pong table, plus baby foot and air hockey and a dj. There are a couple TVs and a big projector screen which makes it a great place to watch hockey even though it doesn't feel like a sports bar, and the giant mugs of beer help too. I had some of a big basket of fries that were crispy and tasty, and my friends ordered the veggie lasagne and really liked it. There's a lot going on here but instead of feeling like it's trying too hard it just feels like someone with a sense of humour made a list of their favourite things and opened the kind of bar they would like to spend time at, and it works, and it fits the neighbourhood way better than I was expecting. Lets start with the good; the place was adorable. Cute communal tables, booths in the center that open to both sides, industrial lighting and christmas lights (I'm a sucker!) The OK - Only one Ping Pong table, and a single fooseball table at $1/game. House beer was priced reasonably and was a pleasure to drink. Although they had a slow start to the night it actually picked up quite a bit in terms of customers. The ugly - a friend ordered the steak, no cook option was offered. We went mainly to try their poutine. The sauce was well flavored by noticeable too liquid which results in the cheese not melting. It was a chicken poutine and the chicken was far too dry. Also, we were the first table of the night and within 4 orders they ran out of cheese balls. Overall, cute place with decent drinks. Food was a little disappointing in terms of both quality/quantity but I would stop in if I were in the area. It's on the lower end of three stars for me. read more

There may be a "Ping Pong Club" in Montreal, but this is not it. We walked for miles in anticipation of a night of ping pong and shuffleboard, but unfortunately that was never going to be possible. Went here a few weeks ago on a weeknight to support a friend who told me she was planning to perform her notorious ping pong show at this bar. The vibe is a cross between trendy-funky and shabby-chic, leaning more to chic. The cocktail list is creative and reasonably priced. I tried the Scotch Lady (chivas, calvados, grenadine, lemon juice, simple syrop, miraculous foam, amer angostura). I enjoyed it so much I had two more . My friend ended up leaving without performing her show due to the fact that she didn't actually have permission from the establishment but they didn't press charges which was nice. read more

This is a very cool place. It's nice how the building as large open windows and the games inside are pretty cool too. The drinks are good too but I wish they listed a few more mixed drinks on their menu. It's a good place for a good drink read more

Ping pong club has a small terrace and some choices of drinks. Inside after 10-11 pm it's more of a party place. If you're looking to find a fun night pass by for a couple of drinks to Ping Pong Club. The only thing we didn't really like was that at 12 am we were kicked off the terrace and it was done very abruptly. In a minute, we had to get our stuff and get up. I would recommend that this is done differently in the future, and if they need to kick people out then it's done with sufficient notice and more politely. Other than that it was nice. read more

This review is for 3.5 stars. Really fun place but crowded and sketchy service. Beer selection was limited as was the wine. The venue is very cool with a dance floor, ping pong table, and foosball table, but the space was so small that there was no dance floor available at all. There was also a DJ spinning some good music. Really good music and cool venue, but they have some work to do to make the venue become a mainstay in this part of the town. read more

Favourite new BRUNCH place in Montreal. I know, it seems more bar than restaurant, but their weekend brunches are freakin' unbelievable. And being able to play ping pong, foosball or board games while you wait makes the time that much more enjoyable. I ordered the Cowboy Beans with a side if potatoes and let me tell you, that ish puts the ish delishious. It was so rich and hearty and filling, that I nearly exploded with delight. And their homefries... oh, the homefries. Probably the best I've ever had in Montreal, and I've eaten literally kilos of them across the city. Come back at night, and it transforms into a super-fun bar, with delicious drinks and a wonderful crowd. I really like this place, it's great for getting together with a group of friends and playing some games (ping pong, babyfoot, Jenga), being loud, watching the game and eating mac & cheese balls! I love the beer size choices and the prices are right. The poutine was water though, what's up with that? This is a fun place. I know in east Germany a lot of pubs used to have a ping pong table so it will camouflage the conversations (since most places were bugged), I wonder if this is the reason they have it or just since it is cool. I came with my wife around 10pm to have a some beers and watch the game. We also had the fries which were real good. The place was half full (on a Monday night) at around 12-12:30 am people started to come in. I guess this place runs on unique hours. The atmosphere was young and fun yet you can still have a nice conversation and good time. Defently a place to bookmark and re visit with a bunch of friends. read more

The Ping Pong Club was our groups second stop, and later our last stop, of our first night in Montreal. The bartenders were very friendly, and one even gave us a list of places to check out while we were there. There was, of course, a ping pong table, as well as a foosball table. And there were large wooden booths in the middle of the place, and long tables along the walls. There was also significant outside seating. I had an IPA, a mojito (I think), sangria, and probably a couple other things I don't remember. But I remember they were all very good. And the place was jammin when we left the first time; and still jammin when we came back later in the night. This place was a win for us. read more

Pretty cool place with relaxing atmosphere. Their cocktails are yammy and if the ping pong table is always there if you're up for a game. It does gets crowded during the evening, but the service is good. They also have a terrace if you're feel like having your drinks and food outside. read more

Although many of us live in/near the neighbourhood, it was the first time many of our group had been here. At first it seemed cute. Nice hangout spaces and well-positioned in Mile-End. However...we had barely decided on what we wanted (just sat down, some old friends catching up) when our server insisted we order (tone, body language, looked impatient). I think one of us may have asked at one point what was on tap, at which point he yelled (in part because it was loud, but he was noticeably annoyed) all the types. After that, anytime someone hesitated for a moment as he moved around the table of 8 people to take the order (we weren't quite ready, so there was a bit of indecision, but not much) he barked them all out again, with some annoyance. He probably did this 4 or 5 times. Then, at least one beer was slow to arrive for 1 person at our table (nobody really cared or noticed). As this person returned from the bathroom, and made eye-contact with the server, the server seemed to assume he was up to complain and loudly said "what do you want me to do?" with some irritation. We tried not to let it get to us, we thought "whats up with this guy?" but nobody made an issue of it. As we paid, most people at our table tipped decently (I begrudgingly gave $1 for a $7 beer) despite feeling we had been poorly treated and not wanting to tip at all, but my BF left 75 cents for a $7 beer (it was the change that he had) and the server called him out for not leaving enough. I'd like to think that it was this guys first night or worst day or something to excuse his rude behaviour, but frankly it ruined our perception of the place to be sure. Cute little bar/lounge in the plateau with a fun energetic vibe , DJ on site and really interesting modern and relaxed decor (They have a ping pong table , but they really only have just one ping pong table and one shuffleboard table , so the chance of getting to use them is steep). Service was okay , not super attentive or friendly but they were quick. I ordered a cocktail (called naked and famous) 2 beers and a serving of friends and paid approximately 30$ which is more than reasonable. The cocktail was small in size but very well balanced and tasted great , they were generous with the alcohol, the beer was cold and hit the spot and the fries were pretty delicious (huge portion that comes with spicy mayo and great spices and cook on the fries). This isnt the place to come for a full meal but definitely a fun spot for a drink and a snack without paying too much. So while this isn't exactly a "Ping Pong Club", more like a "Ping Pong if you're lucky/ practice your sharing skills" it is a welcomed addition to Mile End and the first of its kind that I hope sticks around for a while (or expands). Cocktails are good, most are $10, and there are milkshakes and snacks. The vibes are relaxed super great for a date whether its your first or one of many with your lover. Music spanned MGMT to Beatles to U2 (I know, you couldn't escape him from iTunes and now this... We won't hold it against them this time). Have some fun, get pinging and ponging. read more

Charming little place in the area. The downside is that it gets incredibly packed and the ping pong table or foosball table are never free. The food is a bit underwhelming (we tried one of everything on the menu in our group) but the atmosphere is fun and electric. read more

I really enjoyed the vibe of this place! I was there towards the end of our night so I had already had a little too much to drink... So instead I opted for a virgin milkshake! It could have been because I was buzzed, but it was delicious!!! There was a dj there that night too and he was great, I found myself shazaming every other song!
