As a first-time visitor to Hawaii, this experience was incredibly stressful, deeply disorganized, and poorly coordinated. Our day started at 2:00 AM for a 6:30 AM flight, only to find out the Maui airport doesn't even open until 6:00 AM. Thank goodness we had TSA PreCheck, or we would have missed our flight running to the gate. The issues only compounded once we landed: Zero Airport Guidance: The company email stated a taxi company (Charlies Taxi) would pick us up. Being completely new to the islands, we didn't know where to go. Airport staff gave us conflicting directions, and we spent a frustrating amount of time wandering around just to find the pickup zone. No Greeters or Communication: There was nobody to meet us at the airport. After calling the taxi company and waiting 15 minutes, we finally got a ride to Pearl Harbor. Left Stranded at Pearl Harbor: Once we arrived at Pearl Harbor, there was again nobody to greet us, despite a text from the driver saying he would be waiting. We waited outside for 45 minutes. I finally had to call the tour company to find out where our guide was. I only found our group because I actively approached a guide myself. Unwelcoming Attitude: We were told beforehand we could leave bags on the bus. When I asked the guide to unlock the bus for my backpack, he made me feel like I was a massive inconvenience and a bother. Rushed Experience: To top it off, we received an email during the tour telling us we had to call and arrange our own return taxi through Charlie taxi. The tour ended so abruptly and quickly that we missed the actual ending of the experience because we had catch our flight back.

The biggest highlights for us were the Byodo-In Temple and the Dole Plantation. We were originally going to drive ourselves to these places, but we were so glad we ran into the vendors on the street instead. Some of the stops didn't quite meet our expectations, but for the price (especially with the discount), it was well worth it. However, the real heartbeat of the tour wasn't even the sites--it was Neo and Ryan. They are incredibly knowledgeable about the island, and their presentation was filled with heartwarming honesty, real facts, and no sugar-coating. They made sure to include everyone in the conversation, which showed such genuine care for the guests. We absolutely loved them and would tour with them again on any other adventures. This is kid friendly especially the small one wanted to be carried instead of walking. Yianni knows the people in all areas, able to have a deeper history and great understanding. It's like a live Nat Geo and Anthony Bordain explanation level. It's a great experience. Normally, i hate tours as the guide just point to the local spots and that's it. It's no different from a Google search. Hi5, and Yianni in particular change this by having that connection to the local people. That is the magic. The driver is very well knowledged the seating and the ride over and into the east side of the island is exceptional. We got to see Hanama bay lookout, the stop at Makapuu trail, Holona Blowhole. And cracked open macadamia nuts at tropical macadamia farms.. there were turtles that were out at Puena beach . But I decided to buy some delicious $5-$8 shave ice from KAMANANUI shave ice with ice cream and condensed milk, the flavors I had were coconut and blue Hawaii. Very enjoyable. Cy, had given our group a great explanation on much of the sites a lot of details on the area, how the people of Hawaii mostly the native Hawaiians are in Homestead lands, and or waiting for more land. It is a very interesting history. It's very good to have someone telling you these things about the culture and the people especially when you don't get to often see places that you have to find out about and it's done all in one day I highly recommend the store if you go.... Note also that your lunch is included. My lunch was a salt and pepper shrimp. It was really good. And also we stopped at a fruit shack where farmers of the island there grew yellow watermelon that's popular in the south of US. Delicious food... and a great bunch of people. It takes longer where you want to go but I enjoyed the breeze and saved me from aches and pains. The ride is $6 and it's an all day pass. It starts just before 10 am and I think it ends at 8 pm. You can buy the pass from the bus driver in cash. They don't accept credit cards and they prefer exact change only. If you have the JCB credit card, your ride is free. Don't lose your ticket since you have to present it when boarding.

My family and I booked the Oahu Grand Circle Island Tour through Viator and we were assigned Aloha…read moreSunshine Tours as our tour operator. First, when booking we were told they would pick us up at the Hale Koa even though we couldn't select it as our pick up location at booking and we just had to contact the tour operator and let them know we were staying at the Hale Koa. When we did that, they told us they wouldn't be able to pick us up there and we could do ABC Stores at the Hilton resort next door. Well we're also traveling with family and they accidentally picked a location that's a 10 minute uber from our hotel. Cut to the day before our tour and our pick up time was moved from 9 AM to 7:30 AM at a location that was a 3-minute walk from a hotel we weren't staying at. We were finally able to get through to the operator on the phone and they moved our pickup to the Hilton next door because the person on the phone said they can't pick up at the Hale Koa, which we were fine with. They called back a few minutes later and all of a sudden said they'd pick us up at the Hale Koa at 7:05 AM. Cut to the tour itself....The bus that we were provided was a death trap. The suspension was shot so we bounced around all over the place. The emergency exit windows weren't secured in place properly and were popping out of the frame. The tires were going bald and were cracked. That bus was not safe to be on the road in any situation. The driver, Leean was also unsafe and didn't seem to keep the bus within the lanes on the way. Additionally she kept stating how much money things cost, pointing out million dollar homes with a "Them vs. Us" mentality that shouldn't have been brought into a tour. There wasn't much about the history of some of the stops, plus there were audio tap stops made that made the tour longer than needed. Not to mention that we could barely hear what she was saying over the rattling of the bus. She also almost left without some tour members. Others on the tour even opted to leave in an Uber along the way just with how the tour was being managed and the condition of the bus. We're going to stay away from anything that Aloha Sunshine Tours does.
