Today, they just announced they no longer take my CA teachers' insurance (not a big enough profit). We paid $1,849 for a crown procedure that failed almost immediately. The temporary crown cracked and fell off within 24 hours. I sent THREE separate emails over the course of six days--complete radio silence from the office. When we finally had to just show up in person (for final crown placement), the experience went from bad to worse. The Receptionist (Trish): She has a significant attitude problem. She is used to talking over people and became visibly frustrated when I wouldn't allow her to steamroll the conversation. Her lack of communication is unprofessional, but her defensiveness is even worse. The Dentist (Dr. Thompson): When I finally got to meet him (he hides in a back office), there was minimal apology about the failed work and the ignored emails. Instead, he focused on a condescending, "teaching moment", trying to lecture me on the process of crowns rather than taking responsibility for his office's failure to communicate or the poor quality of the temporary placement. The "Cleaning" Scrutiny: To top it all off, I took my mother to a new dentist a couple of months later. Despite Dr. Thompson supposedly performing a cleaning in December, the new dentist found a massive amount of plaque buildup--the kind you would expect after a year of neglect, not two months. It appears they are happy to bill you for services they aren't actually performing thoroughly. They are quick to take your money but completely disappear when their work fails. Over the years, when I had a tooth repaired, my experience was that other teeth were shaved or adjusted so the newly repaired tooth would not grind or interfere with my bite. After having this done multiple times, I have become increasingly concerned about how much my natural teeth have changed. My teeth now appear and feel noticeably shorter than they used to, my bite and the way my mouth closes feel different, and I am extremely unhappy with the change in the appearance of my mouth and lips. I described the result as giving me a "duck lip" appearance. This is serious. This is not something I consider funny, minor or simply a cosmetic inconvenience. These are my permanent teeth, my smile, my bite and my face. Once natural tooth structure has been removed, this is not something a patient can simply undo on their own. I trusted this dental office with my care for approximately four years. I never imagined that I would reach a point where I would look at my teeth and smile and feel this upset about how much they have changed. I am not seeking answers about exactly what was done to my teeth over the years, why these adjustments were considered necessary, and what options I may have to address the changes I am experiencing. I strongly encourage anyone receiving dental work to ask questions before allowing adjustments to other teeth. Ask exactly what is being removed, why it is necessary, what effect it could have on your bite, and whether there are alternatives. Please take this seriously. I certainly do. These are permanent teeth, and patients deserve to fully understand what is being done to them before irreversible changes are made.
