TL;DR: The billing service that Bella Vita employs filed 2 insurance claims with incorrect billing…read moreinformation, which were denied by my insurance, and are refusing to update that info and resubmit the claim (as recommended by my insurance) and are leaving me with an outstanding $1167 bill. I was a patient with Bella Vita for about 5 years until I moved away last October. I decided to start Invisalign with them in May 2025 and paid my quoted amount ($2411) in full the day treatment started. To my surprise, in April 2026 I received a call that my claim had been denied by my insurance but they would help me out and file another claim that would hopefully be approved by Delta Dental but if that claim was denied, they would file an appeal for me. I got a text on May 11, 2026 that I had an outstanding balance that amounted to ~50% ($1167) of what I originally paid at the start of my treatment so I called to ask what happened and Emily at the front desk told that they filed an appeal for my denied claim but couldn't answer any insurance or billing questions due to the fact that their billing department is not done "in house" so they would have to relay all my questions to a separate service. The office also refused to give me any contact information for their billing department so I'm forced to play telephone with the office and their billing department but also said they could not tell me why my claims had been denied. I was, however, told that my benefits for ortho had been maxed out. I called my insurance immediately after that initial call and they told me that, no, my claim was not denied due to my coverage being maxxed out (it has not been at that point) but because there were errors with the billing information on the claims that were submitted. The insurance rep also notified me that they had no appeal on file, so either there is some technical issue on the insurance side or the office lied about filing an appeal for that 2nd denied claim. The insurance rep told me it was an easy fix and that the office's billing department just need to update that billing info, resubmit, and it should be approved. From May until August of this year, I've called 6 times asking for updates and relaying the message that all they have to do is update their incorrect billing info and resubmit the claim and it should be approved. Everytime I call, I'm met with "The claim was already filed and denied twice so there's not much we can do, but we'll ask the billing department again." I've tried asking for the practice manager and have been told "she's not at her desk but she will call you later" and I never receive that call. All in all, be wary of this place. Since their billing is not done in house, no one at the office can answer specific billing questions and refuse to give contact info for that billing office so you're forced to play telephone with them and their billing department if you ever have an insurance issue.

They made me do a Cone beam CT as part of my "routine xrays"; didn't even realize it was a CT until afterwards and that I'd been exposed to unnecessary radiation. Then they tell my I have deep gum pockets and need deep cleaning in all 4 quadrants; they bring in their sales person to try to convince me to buy their own insurance plan and tell me how much I'd save. Mind you, I had been having routine dental exams and never was told I had any gum pocket issues. Super suspicious, I told them I'd think about it since it was thousands of dollars and just wanted a general cleaning today. They made a big fuss and made me sign papers saying I was "going against clinical advice". Proceeded to give me the quickest and most superficial cleaning of my life. After the fact, I got a second opinion from my friend who is a Navy dentist. He checked my pockets and said they were ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUES! And he told me good thing I didn't fall for their scam. And he scoffed when he heard they made me do a CB CT for absolutely no good reason. To add insult to injury, I find out later that Mission Valley Dentists tried to bill my medical insurance for a radiology read of the CT scan. Again totally unnecessary and suspicious! Was some random radiologist in SD - not even at their location. When I reached out to ask what that was they simply stated "oh we just bill the insurance and if it's not covered, don't worry, you won't have to pay for it". SUSPICIOUS. If you're looking for a corporate dentistry place that doesn't actually care about your health and looks at you like a cash cow, congrats you found it!! They should be ashamed, because they're contributing to medical mistrust.

Chị Kim and another female assistant (sorry I did not get her name) were very friendly and professional. I get a lot of anxiety before dental procedures and had a bad experience done by another person. Dr. Tien was very careful and helped ease my fears. He also mentioned that they will be implementing laser technology to target cavities sometime next year so less invasive and definitely gives patients like me peace of mind. The stand alone building itself is easy to locate and there's plenty of parking which is unheard of in North Park! There is also a beautiful mural done on the wall facing the parking lot :) Lastly, there is a grocery store across the street called "North Park Produce" that sells produce, fresh baked flat breads daily, and various prepared Middle Eastern food.
