This place is a gem. I've had my teeth examined and cleaned for decades. So many newer dental offices act like plastic surgeons, insisting on services my insurance will not cover but are somehow necessary. This is upselling and it's an incredible annoying cheap ploy for a dentist to compensate what insurance does not cover. The office of Dean Nguyen isn't like that - they're old school. They make sure my teeth are healthy, thoroughly examined, and properly cleaned. No added b.s. that I never asked for. All the staff here are great to work with. Diana was my hygienist recently, and she clearly enjoys her job and working with patients. As so many others here have stated, I highly recommend and endorse this dental office. read more

Recommended to me by an old coworker and I have been here a few times now and have loved it. This has easily been the best dentist office I've been to since moving to CA 6 years ago. They have been very helpful, informative, and efficient at each appt I've had with them. Every employee I honestly am planning on continuing to come back here for all my dental needs. First there were the x-rays. I mentioned my sensitivity to the objects placed in my mouth and extra care was taken. Next was the cleaning which was super thorough covering every possible area of my mouth. As water accumulated a tool sucked the excess water out. I was offered shaded glasses for the light glare but that was not needed. Dr. Dean Van Nguyen found from the x-rays that I have one cavity that will be filled on the next visit this month. He was also kind to give me good advice on an outside matter. The parking lot for his office is limited but I was able to get a spot. The receptionists who checked me in and out were very pleasant. I mentioned that I have another dentist in NJ during the summer and the office will forward the x-rays to that office. read more

I appreciated that they did their best to accommodate me despite there being a hiccup with my scheduled appointment time. Everyone I interacted was very pleasant. I just went in for a routine cleaning and saw Dr. Scalercio. She was very patient and thorough. Definitely recommend this practice and will be back so long as I'm living in San Diego! Excellent reception! I came for a second opinion. Dr. Scalercio spent a long time going over what the previous provider had done, what she would do going forward. She was very patient and empathetic. I felt that she really cared for my well being. I never felt that she was trying to add unnecessary services. As a matter of fact, she was judicious in the recommendations. At the front desk, Christina was a great help in guiding me through the insurance maze. I stayed away from seeing a dentist for a long time due to a bad experience in the past. Chiefly the financial costs (even with insurance) and the overall attitudes of the dentists I've seen as a child into young adulthood. I finally bit the bullet and decided to come here after reading through numerous reviews. Every person I interacted with at the office was professional and caring. I went for only a check up and a cleaning. My dentist assigned to me was a woman, (yeah) and she, the dentist, cleaned my teeth the best cleaning ever! I don't know anything about other services, but the simple service I needed was excellent. AND, I filled out the paperwork and it was not online. That is important to me. Been coming here for 2 to 3 years, always have had great service. It's easy to make appointments. Karen has been my hygienist and is always great. She's down to earth. Listens to any issues and gives good feedback on cleanings. As someone who pays out of pocket, I appreciate they don't insist on doing x-rays as often as other places I've been (as long as you're coming regularly and there are no issues.) They've never kept me waiting for an appt! Routine cleaning appointments are often done in about 30 mins. They don't waste your time yet still leave you feeling taken care of. I have had a lot of dental issues since childhood but saw the same dentist under my mom's insurance for years. When I moved to San Diego as a young adult, I had some truly negative experiences regarding dentists with predatory practices, and manipulated into treatments that were done poorly/not lasting, and were super expensive! I had put off finding a new dentist for a long time due to those experiences. Then, one day I had an old tooth filling from childhood come out unexpectedly. With no dental insurance and no current dentist- I was nervous about how expensive it would be to find a new office that could see me, and was anticipating the scolding I would go through for avoiding the dentist for so long... I am so lucky to have found this dental office. They were able to squeeze me in within that week, they fixed my issue and didn't shame me for not seeing a dentist for as long as I did. They are honest, give me good advice, and take a more conservative and preventative approach which is a good thing especially with your teeth and the nature of your oral health! My first visit wasn't cheap without insurance (no surprise), but it was comparable and I didn't feel upsold on anything. I now have a plan through Covered California and chose my plan based on the insurances they accept. I have now been going to this dental office for about 2 years. I have been seen by both Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Scalercio. They are both excellent! Aside from cleanings and filling, I also had a root canal and crown done by Dr. Scalercio last year. They worked with me and waited to when my insurance coverage would kick in and help with the cost instead of rushing me to get it done asap. I really appreciate the consideration for my finances and weighing out the risk of waiting while letting me know to come in if I felt pain before the time. My root canal and crown went smoothly and healed well. Luckily, I have not had any issues and everything looked good during my most recent visit for a cleaning. I would highly recommend this dental office to anyone looking for a trustworthy and no frills dentist. They are a knowledgeable, skilled, reliable, and kind team! I have been happy with the level of care I have received from the entire staff. I had such a great experience at this location. From the first phone call with Francis who was very friendly, to the X-rays with michelle who was also very friendly and quick. Then Dr. Karina Scalercio came to the rescue when I came to her wanting a deep cleaning because I hadn't clean my teeth in like 5 years. I was already ready to pay the $1100 for the visit and the deep cleaning. After Dr. Scalercio looked at my X-rays she realized that I only had one small section that needed some extra work. She told me that I didn't need a deep cleaning. She could have easily just went with what I requested but she didn't, she did what was right and that makes me a customer for ever. They were top notch and got my polishing done fast and the doctor even ensured that I wasn't in pain which shows how much they care.
