I have had several dentist in my area. The last one was okay but recommended some expensive dental work. Even with 50% covered by insurance, it was still expensive. I thought I would try a five star rated dentist in Tecate, Mexico. After reading all the reviews, I made an appointment with A&R Dental Care. First, it's just over the border (A very short walk). The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The office has all the latest equipment like 3Dscanners. The doctor was very knowledgeable, polite and informative. He did two fillings and a crown for a very reasonable price. The savings were "substantial." Well worth the hour plus drive. Had to visit A&R for a sore tooth. Bad news is I needed a root canal; good news is that Dr. R picked up the phone and within a half hour the specialist was there, finished the procedure in 45 minutes (painlessly), and I was on my way back across the boarder. And the cost was substantially less than in San Diego. I've introduced 3 friends to A&R over the past year - all were amazed at the level of service, and the low cost. Why can't U.S. dentists come even close? And, of course, you get to have great tacos close by. tip: park on the US side ($12.00), walk 10 minutes to the office. no line. bravo! read more

What a find in Tecate, Baja California! This dental practice is amazing. From the impeccably clean and modern facility to the kind and professional staff I was duly impressed. Doctors and staff graciously spoke excellent English and I was presented with an easy to understand and thorough treatment plan. They helped me with insurance too. Their prices for implants and crowns are so reasonable and I am able to get all the work I need instead of scrimping and piecemealing to pay inflated US prices. It's so easy to visit as they are literally a 5 min walk across the border after I paid $5 to park my car in the US. Just as easy to get back and I picked up all my medications in Mexico for less than $40. Tecate is a darling town. The people are friendly and helpful. My regular dentist in La Mesa wanted $580 to fill two cavities and I did not have dental insurance. A&R Dental charged $160 for an exam, cleaning, and filling of two cavities, plus I was able to pay with my VISA card. I was very happy with the service and found Raymundo quite friendly and conversational. This dental office is about a 1-hour drive from La Mesa, taking the 94 East. You pass the Jamul Casino. The road is a bit winding and curvy. There are a number of private parking lots on the USA side. Note: The lot farthest out (across from some type of trucking operation) does not have a "booth" like the other lots. It is under new ownership and there is a credit-card machine in the corner near the entrance/exit. If you do not pay, you will receive a $40 parking ticket. If that happens, you will have to try and track down the manager and ask him to void it. It usually costs $6 at this lot and other lots charge $5, where you write your vehicle information on a slip, put it in an envelope, and insert it in a booth. It is a short walk to the Mexico border entry. You do not have to check in there. Just walk straight to the x-ray machine and the military guard should wave you through. Upon going through the rotating turnaround, you immediately are on the street where A&R is located. Turn right and walk about 100 feet or so and the office is on the right. It is easy to spot with the sign. When you get done at A&R, walk out onto the street, turn left, and go another block or so. Then turn left and go straight to re-enter the USA. There are signs, but those are faded a bit difficult to see. You will need either a passport card or regular passport to get back into the USA. read more

About a year back in time I went to Algadonas ,M ex for repair of dental bridge...I was very disappointed in how Algadonas has grown.. Lots of traffic , hotter than hell , . I left there not wanting to go back... So I did my research and found A and R Dental Care in Tecate... Tecate is an easy border crossing, Plus A and R Dental is about a block away... Located on a quite street..easy to park your car.. But the best thing is A and R was a pleasure to do business with. Very friendly staff.... The staff is awesome!! They reply to emails, phone calls, (even in English) and are always flexible with scheduling! I was very scared and hesitant to (not only go to) a new dentist but one in Mexico. I needed an implant after losing my cap and finding out the root was cracked and decayed. I found A&R Dental on yelp, made an appointment, and drove there, only a block away from the Tecate border entry. I was so relieved when I found out I could afford my implant. In the USA my insurance was going to pay $1,700 and my out of pocket cost would be $4,000. Yeah, I was at a point where I was going to accept my toothless faith. The entire process was explained and went very well. Also, as the years went by after having my braces removed (in the US) I started getting ugly stains on my two front teeth. One of them finally broke. I emailed A&R, they got me an appointment right away. I was informed to park on the US side cause of Covid-19 border delays. Which in the past I would drive through in about 15 min, now is taking 2 hours. I paid $5 for the parking walked across about a block from the border. A & R did it again. They fixed my smile and didn't break my wallet. They are so so good in every aspect of running a professional dental clinic. 5 stars isn't enough. I wish I could give them more. My wife and I don't have dental insurance and decided to visit A&R Dental Care in Tecate. Dr. Raymundo Landavazo checked our teeth and gave them a thorough cleaning. Dr. Landavazo has a gentle touch and did a fantastic job. He charged us $35 each for the cleaning. The dental office is conveniently located one block from the border. I paid $6.00 to park my car on the US side. Everything was super easy. After the great experience we had today, I would not hesitate to have any type of dental procedure done at A&R Dental Care. The reason I came to this dental practice was because they accept dental insurance and credit card payments and had excellent ratings. I have learned better after becoming disappointed several times. After about six months, I confirmed with my insurer that they were never contacted for my ongoing treatments. No claims were turned in and when I asked about this, I was told that my X-Rays were not accepted? I thought they would do something about this before the year end, and nothing was done. I lost a years worth of benefits. Since the beginning I was paying out of pocket. They never once even offered that I pay by credit card. Yes, I paying out of pocket, but what I believe is really rude, is that they would never forewarn me. Many times I was ambushed to make a payment. Luckily for me, I like to be prepared and I could pay up front upon getting treatment. It got to the point that I had to ask, how much are you going to charge me or how much do I need? Medically speaking, they did very little to help. For example: I was told I needed a deep cleaning to my upper teeth, and I ended up only receiving one half of the treatment. Why? No one can figure that out. I was simply told, "I can do it the job with my tools". Why didn't this occur from the beginning? Worse, they are terrible on preventive/hygiene advice and overall communication. They never suggested that I remove and replace my old fillings. Another example, is that on the 13th of January I Dr. Ray took a mold so I could be fitted with a temporary denture. The goal starting from day one, had always been to have implants put in with an implant crowns. In the meantime I needed a denture to work with the public. Well, it has been almost two months since that January appointment and despite his promises, I have not heard from Dr. Landavazo. Look the office looks great, the doctor talks up a good story, but don't be deceived. In the nine months, I have been with them, I honestly say, the experience cost me money, frustration, lack of dental treatment and as a result, I say you are better off going somewhere else that is truly, real. read more

I highly recommend Raymundo A. Landavazo and his team. I needed a new crown and checked online many places in Tecate and Tijuana for a quote. The only one who responded with detailed information and recommendation re material, time and how many visits it approximately would take was Raymundo A. Landavazo. The Price was very reasonable. He gave me detailed information about how to get to the border, where to park and its costs and directions to his office which is located 2 mins from the border point of entry by foot. I never had to wait neither to Mexico nor back to the US - none of my visits. The US border patrol officers very super friendly!! His office is a very clean professional place. He found out that I needed the root canal done before making a new crown, so he called root canal specialists in Tecate and managed to make me an appointment the same day so I would safe one trip. He did an amazing job, so caring and professional!!! I'm looking forward to seeing him for a check-up in a couple of months. I can't thank them enough!!! read more
