McMenamins theaters tend to be small, clean, intimate places, filled with couches and comfy chairs,…read moreambient mood lighting, and a full-service bar. All that together is enough to blow any Regal Cinemas out of the water already. Their prices for everything, from tickets to concessions and even food and cocktails are also so much cheaper than any major theater chain, I'm not sure why you would come see a movie anywhere else. My only thought would be capacity, which is further reduced by social distancing requirements during this pandemic. Still, it's hard to beat, and we were lucky enough to grab a couple tickets to see our first movie in a theater in more than a year. And while I was nowhere near as excited to see "Tom and Jerry" as my wife was, it was still a very relaxing, enjoyable time. I forgot how much I have missed that communal theater experience. If you find yourself yearning to relive that experience yourself, you're not going to find a better place to do it than at a McMenamins theater, and the Old St. Francis theater is among the best.

This isn't the most luxurious theater that we've ever been in, but our experience with this cinema warrants our 5-star review. Parking was plentiful and free. Staff, who sold both tickets and concessions, were friendly and efficient. Tickets were a bargain at $7 for showings before 6 pm. The theater had comfortable seating and good picture and sound quality. Restrooms were clean. And, most importantly for this particular day -- they had great temperature control! Unfortunately, the movie that we selected wasn't too good, but we can't blame the cinema for that!

The morning began with a light breakfast followed by a short, informative talk before heading outside. We were given maps (and loaner binoculars) showing birding locations around the property. Several bird experts joined the group and were incredibly helpful in pointing out species and answering questions. The grounds were beautiful, clean, and perfect for birding. As an added bonus, admission to the museum afterward was included, allowing us to explore at our own pace. I highly recommend both the museum and this event for anyone interested in nature or birding.
