I'm surprised this place hasn't bagged any 5-starrers yet. Well, here is one!
This is the best Mexican food I've had in the UK. I should emphasize that I've spent time in California and in other Mexican-food-heavy areas of the US, like Chicago, besides Mexico itself. This place is up there. I had a tapas-based dinner with my partner, and we tried pretty much all their vegetarian tapas, including the two kinds of vegetarian tacos, the sopes, the tlacoyos, and the quesadilla with huitlacoche (what they call "Mexican truffle"). We were really impressed. Every dish seemed carefully designed and had a very well-defined flavor, even though in some cases the ingredients were similar (lots of pepper). Admittedly, it's a pretty Europeanized version of Mexican food (there is a certain lack of sour/herby flavors, like cilantro and lime), but I don't mind that at all given that what was in my plate was very tasty and very interesting anyway.
We didn't try the guacamole, so I can't speak to that. But hey, making guacamole by yourself takes 10 minutes. I would rather get something more interesting in this kind of place.
Overall, this is the best restaurant I've eaten at within Leeds city limits in 2 years and a half. I was very happy with the quality of the food, and the waiting staff was attentive and very pleasant. Will come back here often as long as I'm in Leeds. It's not cheap, but it's definitely worth it. read more
