The glass block wall in the "Heavenly Hideaway"

This is not a traditional bed and breakfast. We stayed in the "Heavenly Hideaway" suite and it wasn't so heavenly. The outside wall is made of glass block. There is a cabin outside directly across from the glass block wall with decorative lights on the porch that were on all night long. It was brighter than Florida in our room all night long. The bed was terrible, so even if the room wasn't lit up like a spot light all night, we wouldn't have slept. The room abuts the kitchen so around 6:30 in the morning we began hearing the banging and clanging of dishes. Secondly, the paper that was left for us at the little shack at the front specifically said breakfast would be served between 8:30 and 9:30. We got there at 8:35 and sat down. The room was already full. Around 8:45 the lady came to take our order? (Not how a traditional bed and breakfast works!) She informed us they had a waffle, toast, a variety of bagels, they were out of hash browns and bacon, because they only make so much, and they had eggs, and other kinds of meats to choose from. Then she told us that she didn't want to give the cook another order yet because she would "go crazy" because she was already so busy! Huh?! She told another table that she had the same offerings she had the day before, again not how a traditional bed and breakfast works. I would have definitely skipped the $5 worth of waffle and Canadian bacon for a real breakfast somewhere else for the $20 they charged. The breakfast room faces 52 and with the trees not having leaves right now, you can see all the cars on the road. We also wanted to go in the sauna that others had mentioned in their reviews. HA! It was full of spider webs and who knows what other critters and there was a puddle of water on the floor. Upon leaving this morning, the paper with directions on it told us to gather up our own garbage (because "they don't want to touch our garbage") and leave the garbage outside of the door. Then the paper goes on about how we should tip Kathy for making our stay amazing!! WHAT?! Needless to say, whoever Kathy is didn't get a tip from us and our stay fell far short of amazing!! I imagine the cabins on the property would be neat to stay in but I would not advise staying in the "suites" or staying for the breakfast!

Words don't describe how I feel right now leaving this place. I have a good life at home with a dog and a great job, but I can honestly say I simply don't wanna leave. My mom died almost two years ago and I have not had a vacation since before being her caregiver in her last days. I never expected this few days get away to be so exactly what I needed. The owners. So warm and welcoming. They truly make you feel at home. I can't say enough good things about Will and Jennifer. The staff. Omgoodness. They have this sweet lady who cooks, cleans, and anything else you need who has worked there for 18 years. After she takes care of you she goes and gives care to her elderly Mother. I'm convinced she is an angel. Thank you Kathy for everything. The cabins. Private. Clean. You really feel like you step back in time but you don't have to give up your high speed Internet either. They are simply magical. The jacuzzi tub doesn't hurt either. The grounds. Completely perfect. Everything is spaced out but you don't have to travel far to get to the lake or take a hike. Our cabin literally had a view of Pilot mountain. There are grills to cookout. Free canoe, rowboat, and paddle boats. A gorgeous pool and a sauna that is something from the past. In a good way. I have never wanted to give something six stars before, but if I could I would give Pilot Knob Inn atleast that many. I can not wait to return to that little slice of heaven.

Lovely wood burning fireplace in Cabin No. 1

Holy cow - I can't believe only one person has yelped this place before me! Let me say that the other reviewer, Samantha, was totally on target. The cabins are PERFECT for a couple!!! The grounds are lovely and you need to make some day trips to the local Mayberry places - the Pilot Mountain for sure since you are right next door - the town of Pilot Mountain which has some good places to eat and some cute shops - and, last but not least, Mount Airy which was the home of Andy Griffith. My suggestion is to make your reservation in advance as during many months it is fully booked. Bring some wine - for sure! I suggest you stay at least two nights so you can fully enjoy the surroundings. Lastly, enjoy your stay, it's like going back in time!

This B&B is a hidden gem in the Pilot Mt area of NC. It is not a typical bed and breakfast but has a magical touch in each individually decorated cabin or room. We stayed in the Castle Room, which we understand was a library, and does have lots of books! The room was very clean and almost whimsical! A couch and reading chair, TV, and a king size bed! The bed was high for me (OK I am 5ft tall) but a step stool was provided! The mattress was firm, but gave a comfy nights sleep. The large bathroom had a spa/shower tub that worked wonderfully and a personal sauna (we didn't use it, but could have). The tub was deep and sides high, so if you need a step in shower, just ask when making reservations because other rooms have that. We also noticed the soft large bath towels! Our room was quiet and , actually, just wonderful! We also had a nice porch with 2 adorondack rockers, which we did spend time on. You could hear the highway noise when outside (not inside) some but the birds, crickets, and chirps of frogs quickly enabled you to tune out the background noise! They had a pool that was clean and inviting and a sauna was by the pool also. The breakfast although not gourmet, I would call it a Hearty American Breakfast, included a choice of eggs, bacon, sausage, breads, bagles, english muffins, etc... As well as a breakfast bar with a variety of cereals, yogurts, sweet breads, brownies etc..., and you have to try their apple pie! Teas and coffee are also available. You leave quite full!! They won't go in your room but if you need anything done, like towels or trash emptied, all you need to do is ask at breakfast and it will be taken care of. Would we go back? Absolutely! We can't wait to plan our next visit!

I LOVE this place! We first went about 5 years ago and went back in November. It was exactly 5 years later. The cabins and rooms are just so cozy and beautiful! Everyone is very nice and for a bed and breakfast I didn't feel pressured to get out and do something for the day. I wanted to do nothing! At breakfast hubby got a basket and brought it back to the room. It was simple and yummy. I tell my family and friends about this B&B all the time.

Place is amazing! Although it's been raining all morning, we're still enjoying the rocking chairs on the porch at Cabin #2. Whatever you do while you're here, don't skip out on the breakfast. It was simple and great. For a random middle of the week getaway, we chose the right place. Don't miss out on something fun and romantic!

I mean, we didn't hear one squeak in any floorboard! Talkin' rustic and solid - a wonderful combination. This Inn has impeccable cleanliness and tasteful décor of every room. We came with another couple who are regular guests at B&B's all over the USA. They were decisively impressed. We came for the nearby Yadkin Valley wineries but found simply hanging out at A Mighty Oak to be quite pleasant. We sat on rocking chairs on the 2nd floor covered porch as we read or just talked as the stars emerged in the sky. Then we ascended to the 3rd floor for games (ping-pong, board games, TV sports) and reviewed the substantial bookcase. Of course, a huge facet of any B&B is the proprietor. We all recognize a passion for excellence when we experience one. It's there in spades with Todd, showing up in attentiveness to our needs and a pleasant, playful grace about him and his wife Lisa. And we saw his excellence in that 2nd "B" in B&B. We're talking as close to farm-to-table as it gets since the B&B's rear acreage is home to cows, chicken and plants. And, uh FYI, no smell in the air. Match freshness with culinary excellence and you've got an Rx for memorable breakfasts. I mean, I had never had a Scottish Egg and can't wait to see what Todd has up his sleeve next time! A passion for excellence shows up in every aspect of a business, but when it's a B&B, it can become quite special since they're sort of personal - I mean one actually lives there albeit for one or two nights. A Mighty Oak is indeed one special place. We will definitely return for our Mighty Oak state-of-mind fix!!

It is out of the way down a long driveway, and most likely you'll be greeted by their super friendly dog, Hunter. Jim and Margaret are great hosts, providing freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and lemonade upon arrival. The check-in process is short and sweet and they are available when you need them, but the place is big enough to give enough privacy despite the community spaces. I surprised my bf for his birthday and we came up just for one night. We stayed in the Yosemite room and it was perfect. The king bed was super comfortable, and the room had a ceiling fan, flat screen tv, electric fireplace (for ambiance and/or for heat), and the bathroom had a shower and a jacuzzi tub. It was right around the corner from the kitchen, so in terms of noise, you do hear the clinging and clanging of cooking and cabinets/drawers closing, but it wasn't a major issue for us. If you're sensitive to noise, then I would suggest getting a room on the second floor instead. Our room leads off to an external entrance to the back balcony/porch area so we could come and go from the back door instead of going through the house/common area which was nice. There is always access to coffee (fresh brewed in the morning or a Keurig for afternoon) and hot water for tea or hot chocolate. Upstairs, there is a small fridge that has complimentary can sodas and bottles of water for guests to have. I put our bottle of champagne there to chill. The highlight of the stay of course was the breakfast promptly served at 8:30a. We woke up to a beautiful spread and shared a nice breakfast with nice conversation with 12 other guests. It was family style, so we passed the food around and around until we were all miserably/happily stuffed. Margaret's famous cinnabuns were really delicious - super sweet and fresh. Overall - Everything was clean and just really done well with nice subtle touches throughout the B&B (ie. light music in the background of the common areas, fresh cut flowers in the bathroom and bedside, foaming bubble bath by the tub with a pillow, several candles in the room to assist with creating a romantic ambiance, super plush robes and Bath & Body Works shower products (soaps, shampoo, etc) to use...
