Terrible ownership. David Hargrove is rude, racist and does not know how to run a business…read more At first he was charging us $20 for tubing plus parking. Which is fine but then he changed the price on some people because they got there later, to $40 per person plus parking. (This was not even for tubing but just to be in the little area which was already paid for, by family members that were already there. ) During this time he kept making racist comments, such as "I hate Guatemalans ", and " If you don't speak English, just leave my property. " We would have left but we had already paid and he would not refund us our money. When we asked him for a refund he said he wouldn't give it to us and tried to take back what he said. And after everyone had paid which was over $1200 at this point. He towed 1 of our vehicles, even though we paid for parking. (He did this while we went tubing) It was $480+ to get the vehicle back and we could not get it back till the next day. We live an hour away... We will not be returning and giving our hard earned money to this business ever again.

They have cooler float for your stuff to keep it as dry as possible, which was worth it($10). There are plenty of spots on the journey to stop and swim. Big grass field to park at. I saw that if you bring your own tube you can hitch a ride for $10. Great owners and staff, who made sure someone was there at the end to help grab their tubes. Plenty of space to get out of the water. They have phone covers and rope for sale if you forget yours. Great time all around and we were on the River for about roughly 2.5-3hours. They take other payments instead of just cash.

We proceeded on the quiet and peaceful Yadkin River with Tony covering safety guidelines and important information about the current conditions of the river. We started our birding while Tony watched the river alerting us to specific conditions, allowing us to focus more on birding. Tony also gave us information about locations popular with birds. During calm times, Tony gave us a history of the area and the Yadkin River. The highlight of the morning for all of us was watching the Belted Kingfishers interact with each other fishing along the way. The mid-morning break was a scene from a five-star dining experience. Ryann spent hours preparing a special breakfast for us. On a river island, she setup a table with a white linen tablecloth and food to satisfy any palette. After this filling rest stop, we continued on the river finding other birds including an Indigo Bunting. Again, Tony's support gave us the time to bird and soak in the beautiful surroundings. We finished our trip watching swallows dance around their mud homes. We are deeply grateful to Ryann and Tony for their efforts providing us with a memorable and magical trip. We highly recommend their tours to anyone looking for a wonderful birding experience or for a relaxing trip enjoying the beauty of the Yadkin River. Anita and Rod Tosten

There are daily small-scale performances in an open section of the visitor center, which I stopped to listen to for a bit. An outdoor amphitheater offers larger scale performance opportunities, which I wish I'd found the occasion to come down for. Additionally, there are a couple of miles of trails on the site which run through bucolic hilly territory and offer a variety of sights and sounds. There is no charge to visit the site, and an abundance of reasons to be driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Note that the musical performances are seasonal.

They have a wonderful little museum on the history and development of Appalachian music and instruments. Some of it is interactive as well. I was there on a Saturday and they had local musicians playing some of the old Appalachian music outside in a little covered area, sponsored by the BLM I am assuming. In a smaller building they have a whole section pertaining to the old moonshiners of the region, explaining their craft and their inevitable run-ins with the revenuers. I didn't make too many stops along the way but I am very glad this was one of them as it was totally worth it!
