We saw a Box Turtle, a Blue Heron and Brown Trout holding at a small waterfall. We did about 3 miles of the 8 and is an easy trail that is open to pets and bicycles. It was also a nice surprise to my hubby that it is a popular trout fishery. We will definitely be back with our bikes, fishing rods, and a picnic lunch! In addition, this location also has a pickle ball court, playground, and a basketball court. Highly recommend!

It's quiet and it's peaceful and if the timing is right, there is some shade And after the nap, it was nice to get out and stretch our legs with a walk around. The park has a nice playground, a skate park, a kayak launch, a public restroom and it functions as a trailhead for the Riverside Park Granite City Greenway. Enjoy your time here! It reads, "The park design pays tribute to the architecture of the Blue Ridge Hotel, which once stood on the very same corner where the park will be. Robertson recalls living in the Blue Ridge Hotel with Carlos Jones as they both lived and worked on Main Street. "Carlos was killed in 1945 during WWII while he was serving in the Navy. Before he left, he and I both worked downtown. Memories with Carlos were mainly from staying at the hotel had one room together. I don't know how we paid for it... I didn't make but $6 a week and he didn't make much more - hotels must have been right cheap in those days. "He was a nice and friendly person. We got along real well... he was easy to get along with. He came from a good family and had several brothers..." The park officially opened on September 20, 2014. "The Blue Ridge Hotel (Inn) once stood on this corner of Oak and Main Streets; actually four of them were located here throughout the years. The first one was built around 1823 (made of wood)and after several years, it burned to the ground. The second Blue Ridge Hotel (Inn) was rebuilt sometime between 1835 and 1840 and it stood until the 1880s. The coming of the railroad in 1888 catapulted the Blue Ridge Hotel (Inn) to great heights. Around 1891 the third Blue Ridge Hotel was rebuilt at the same location, but the Great Fire on New Years Day in 1892 destroyed the hotel and the whole city block. Shortly after, a group of business owners rebuilt the hotel, which was revered as one of the best in the state, serving the community and many visitors until around 1965. The park design was built to commemorate the unique architecture of this iconic, grand hotel that was a beacon in this region for nearly 150 years." Everything is in its place and authentic to how she had it decorated. The two ladies at the back entrance were super friendly and a wealth of knowledge. We enjoyed walking through and looking at the decor and photos. Amazing art work from around the world. I loved hearing the stories and I could just feel a sense that I had met Gertrude while walking her halls. Thank you for allowing us to stop by right at closing!!

The Gertrude Smith House is located just outside of Downtown Mt. Airy. It is within walking…read moredistance or you can drive as they have a parking lot or you can park in the street. The 1903 house is on the National Register of Historic Homes. Admission is free to tour the Victorian house as that was part of Gertrude Smith's will that admission be free. Ms. Smith left her house by will to be kept as a museum and established a trust to care and maintain it. The house is kept as if it were in the early 1900s with furniture; artwork and decor. The tour begins in the back of the house and I was greeted and given some history of the house and Ms. Smith. The house is self guided so you can spend as much time inside as you'd like. The rooms have information to read about or you can just look at the contents from the antiques; photographs; artwork; furniture; etc. I highly recommend visiting this historic gem if you are in the MT. Airy area.

Final resting place of the most famous conjoined twins, this cemetery in Mount Airy is adjacent to…read moreUS-74. The twins were born in 1811 and traveled the world. They were joined by a bridge of cartilage. Why are they here? Well, during a trip to North Carolina, they simply fell in love with the state (Who wouldn't?) and in 1843, married Adelaide and Sarah Anne Yates, sisters native to the area. The brothers ran the plantation and lived together until tensions between Adelaide and Sara Anne forced them to set up separate households in the town of White Plains. Between their two marriages, the brothers produced a staggering 21 children. They passed in 1874 and their wives were buried next to them in their final plot. Some 1500 descendants of the twins still reside in the area. The grace is easy to find behind the church. There is parking in the church parking lot. I shopped all over Va. trying to find a specific bike to be built for me as I have a neck and lower…read moreback inurly. I was told that Cycle Works in Mt. Airy, NC was a good place to try. My old bike fit me comfortably but was not fit for riding long bike rides and for staying up with my friends (whom have 25lb to even less weighted bikes) and it was a 10 speed. Yeh I am a Baby Boomer. (^; My faithful steed the "Lead Sled" weighed in at 45+ lbs more so..... with water, tools, food etc. I had called ahead and told the owner what I was needing and let them know I was coming a certain day and brought my bike. I like the folks there right from the get go. Robert the owner took my bike and measured every inch of it and came up with the very best bike he could find online to rebuild to fit what I needed to ride comfortably and safely. And WOW it is awesome! I had gone to many Bike shops nearer to me and found they wanted to use the bikes they had in their stores and rebuild them. Some said they could not change the bikes enough and my body would get used to the changes made. But I know my body.. and I was ready to pay whatever was needed to be able to continue to ride bikes. I imagined I would have to pay an unbelievable price and knew it would be worth it in the long run. But no! I was able to purchase a really super nice bike, with all of the changes I needed to address my past injuries. Thank God, Robert found the perfect brand of bike to be fixed to perfection. Not only am I a lot more comfortable on the new bike than I was on the Lead Sled (which I thought was perfectly fitted for me), I am able to "almost" keep up with all the folks I ride with. Thank you Robert and his mom... Linda for all you did to help me. I will not be going to bike shops anywhere else. If they were ever to move their shop 6 hours away. I would be driving 6 hours to get the type of bike service that you all and I deserve from a great Cycle shop....."CYCLEWORKS Bicycle Shop in Mt. Airy NC!! Thank you Cycleworks!!
