We made this our overnight stop coming from OBX and heading back to Michigan. I am so glad we skipped the comfort inn for this luxurious upgrade that was nominal cost compared to the comfort and amenities. It's brand new! Insanely comfortable bed with extra large pillows, whisper quiet HVAC, beautiful facility and guest rooms. The lobby is a vibe. If I wasn't so tired, we hangout at the tap wall and play some chess in the lobby. Zane was very helpful to suggest a couple places for dinner that were in walking distance. This place is a gem of this neighborhood. We are just passing through but boy this is worth every penny.

As of 8/2026, there are still more amenities to come, and I believe they will greatly add to the guest experience. Pros- The Balladeer's lobby interior is gorgeous! It is very unique, with a little shop, multiple sitting/lounging areas for an impromptu meeting if you're staying here, a reading and chess lounge (reminiscent of a B and B), and even a secret Board Room. There is a self service wine and beer station in the lobby as well, but there's a fee per ounce. Upstairs hallways appears new, fresh, and well furnished. I love a new, spotless hall carpet! Our room was industrial chic, very apropos. Brick walls and beautiful furnishings within. And VERY clean! Bathroom wasn't too tiny but the barn door doesn't shut tightly. Not a problem for a couple 30 years married, but if your with friends beware they may hear things. The bed was very firm, maybe a little too firm for me. Not the standard Marriott (again this isn't one). But i could tell it was quality. Not that cheap foam mattresses. Pillows for comfy. You have to request if you want housekeeping here. I love a professional freshly made bed and towel replenishment so I did request. Outside there is a place to walk dogs. Cons:So as of today the restaurant is not open. They offer a 10$ breakfast package but it's probably much better to walk up to Main Street for a fresh baked food or a homemade meal. There is no gym(sadly) and no pool (very sadly). For the amount you pay for a room, at least one of those are expected. My suggestion is for them to at least have a small weight room with a few cardio machines. And maybe a sauna/whirlpool. Staff was nice, but there aren't many of them as there aren't too many guests yet. Which is fine with me. We used Marriott points and we were satisfied. I'm not sure I would pay full price unless it was a full service hotel. We're not local, but this is home base to my hubby's family so we know this area very well. The Balladeer is clean and beautiful, and close to the action during Mayberry Days and the Autumn Leaves festival. So come check it out.

You can rent a cabin or a room in the small inn, most of which have a whirlpool tub. We actually lucked out and got the last available room in the inn. The kitchenette is a great addition and we did make use of it! The bed was comfortable and the flat screen TV was very adequate for it's size. The heater is a bit noisy when it turns on, but that would be the only thing I found even remotely unpleasant. What I love about this wonderful place is all the personal touches in the rooms. I felt so much at home with all the decorations, and loved the whimsy of those outside and on the porch. I love that each room has an old screen door, and yes, it will slam if you forget to hold onto it when you walk in and out of the room!! We couldn't be more pleased with our stay here! We look forward to returning soon!!

Only complaints: The cabins are tightly packed and access to the beds are is a little limited. Also getting to the place can sometimes be tricky if there's been a lot of rain and the driveway or access roads have been washed out. This is not a place to take your lowered Corvette! We've been back a few times, will be back again.

I mean, we didn't hear one squeak in any floorboard! Talkin' rustic and solid - a wonderful combination. This Inn has impeccable cleanliness and tasteful décor of every room. We came with another couple who are regular guests at B&B's all over the USA. They were decisively impressed. We came for the nearby Yadkin Valley wineries but found simply hanging out at A Mighty Oak to be quite pleasant. We sat on rocking chairs on the 2nd floor covered porch as we read or just talked as the stars emerged in the sky. Then we ascended to the 3rd floor for games (ping-pong, board games, TV sports) and reviewed the substantial bookcase. Of course, a huge facet of any B&B is the proprietor. We all recognize a passion for excellence when we experience one. It's there in spades with Todd, showing up in attentiveness to our needs and a pleasant, playful grace about him and his wife Lisa. And we saw his excellence in that 2nd "B" in B&B. We're talking as close to farm-to-table as it gets since the B&B's rear acreage is home to cows, chicken and plants. And, uh FYI, no smell in the air. Match freshness with culinary excellence and you've got an Rx for memorable breakfasts. I mean, I had never had a Scottish Egg and can't wait to see what Todd has up his sleeve next time! A passion for excellence shows up in every aspect of a business, but when it's a B&B, it can become quite special since they're sort of personal - I mean one actually lives there albeit for one or two nights. You can rent one TP or both. Our group rented both TPs and we were able to have a whole side of people we know. With the TPs you also get charcoal pits, a fire pit, and the a wonderful view of the river. There is a little canoe/kayak boat landing that everyone on the site shares. Waters shoes are advised due to sharp rocks. You can rent tube at the Blue Cat store at the top of the entrance of the campground, or you can bring your own. You can tube/canoe/kayak, etc all the way down the river to the pick up, then a van or trailer will pick you up and take you back to Blue Cat. The campsite has a very small facility. A men's and a women's. One bathroom stall, one shower stall and one sink in each men and women's. Blue Cat is independently owned. They are super nice people. I believe they are selling the location, I hope new owners are just as wonderful.

They have everything you need in the units with a full kitchen with lots of appliances (blender, coffee machine, dishwasher & microwave), k cups & teas, cooking oil, a full spice rack. Three trails sends an email a few days before check in with where to park, instructions on how to get in, etc. I love that they give you PIN numbers to access the front door and your unit door and you don't have the hassle of needing to carry around keys.

We had a reservation three years ago, and the elevator was not working. My wife made another…read morereservation this year and told them I am on a cane and need a ground floor room. They put us on the upper floor, and the elevator is still out of service. We did not receive the email stating what room we had been assigned, within the time to cancel the reservation. They claimed a cane was not an excuse, but it is accepted under the ADA. I know this is true because I was an ADA compliance officer. If this is considered a public space as a hotel, they are required to make accommodations under federal law. They would not refund our reservation. Avoid this place. They do not follow federal guidelines. They can't repair an elevator after three years. The city of Elkin, NC needs to investigate this facility.
