I loved this place! Very clean, and hospitable! It's not modern by any means, but if it were it wouldn't seem right. The office is decorated with Andy Griffith memorabilia, and the outside too. The man at the front desk gave us many food recommendations, and we loved Leon's on Main St. Sounds crazy, but I love there was a table and chairs in our room. This place is just charming, and I will definitely stay here the next time I visit. read more

This is a good place to stay for the price. The desk clerk was very friendly, the room was perfectly clean, and the room was comfortable. It even had two comfy chairs - which many more expensive hotels don't. Has a larger dorm size frig and a microwave. Many TV channels and good reception. read more

Stayed here on a visit to Mt. Airy and was Glad to see the sheriff car and pick up parked out front. We enjoyed our stay. Dated clean rooms , 3 steps from your car. The grounds are beautiful . Gazebo and plenty of land to walk an check out the flowers. There's a laid back vibe here and I recommend you give it a try. During a mid-South motor trip riddled with chain motels with unmopped wood floors, unplugged TV's, uncaring desk clerks and A/C units that rattled like Marley's Ghost, the vintage Mayberry Motor Inn on the old US-52 bypass near downtown Mount Airy was a pleasant find. Everything was clean, everything worked, grounds are commodious and no second floor. The motel is a particular treat for fans of the TV shows "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Mayberry R.F.D." as "Barney Fife's" 1962 Ford Galaxie cruiser and Emmett's 'Fix-It' Ford pickup truck are on display (Griffith grew up in Mount Airy), as is "Thelma Lou's Walking Trail." My only complaint is that the continental breakfast is a bit on the odd side. The coffee was fine, but instead of juice there was applesauce, instead of muffins or bagels there were Little Debbie treats like sweet rolls and fried fruit pies. On Saturday, May 5, the town of Mt. Airy had their 4th Annual Budbreak Festival. Several months ago my husband and I decided to attend the festival. I called and reserved a king bed room at Mayberry Motor Inn based on this prior recommondation and what I found on another website. On our way to Mt. Airy, I placed a call to the the Inn asking if we could drop off our luggage as their check in was 2pm. The women who answered the phone informed me that a room was ready but it had 2 double beds. I informed her that we had booked a king room months ago (which she confirmed) for this evening and she told me that the other guests in the room decided to "stay over". I hung up the phone and my husband and I discussed what we wanted to do. We called back asking to speak with the manager and asked them to move the guests in the "stay over" room to the double bed room and allow us to have the room we reserved. We were told they weren't there and that their belongings were in the room and basically take the double bed room or leave it. As quaint as this place might have been, I believe there is a level of customer service expected when you make a reservation months before (hence the definition of reserve!). I think that this could and would happen again...think twice about booking here! read more

I like unique and different places and this place while certainly unique was different. It could have been so much better. I want to be clear so you can make up your own mind about it. Keep in mind that I am from a affluent area with very high standards on anything from hotels to work out facilities, homes and cars, too. I'm not a snob with anything ExCEpT hotels and motels. Okay? Don't judge me. . I thought the quality of the room could have been so much better. I am a big judger of smells and this place was a mixture of must, old carpet and old everything. Maybe that's the appeal for some, but not for me. This place reminded me of every creepy movie I ever stumble upon. You know the ones where guys hiding out In a seedy hotel with the Corded phone somebody's hiding in the bathrooms breaking the four down to kill somebody? The appeal to the place is the outside grounds the pool area, and the gazebo. I got up early and they had coffee brewing by 6 AM in the main office that was awesome! There is a dense fog across the area and it looked beautiful. The local foliage flowers trees and landscaping was gorgeous. So why not do a little better on those rooms? Put in some new carpet new furniture please oh please oh please new bedspreads and new mattresses. They can look retro they don't have to be retro! They were tiny little black flies hanging out in the bathtub they were kind of unique looking. Maybe native to the area? They seemed harmless enough they had a different kind of wing and they were easy to slap and kill. One of the highlights from you was how friendly the staff. The gentleman at the front desk was awesome, a very intelligent person. He knows a lot about everything.. Not just Andy Griffith. He was even willing to let me swim in the pool early I got up at 7 AM.I would just be aware that if the kinds of things I've mentioned are important to you you may want to stay in the Hampton around the corner. But if you like the charm of this place and you can handle the other things I mentioned go ahead and stay you can't beat the price. It's close to a lot of things too. We stumbled across this place I might stay there again, but The hotel snob and me screamed for crisp clean smelling sheets five fluffy pillows and complementary Chocolates. I fell for those good reviews, and now am questioning their sanity or honesty. This place is a sad trip back to the 50s, when soundproofing was unheard of and bathrooms were miniscule. For the price paid, this place was a rip-off. To their credit, the front desk folks (especially the guys descended from Venable) were friendly and helpful. But the room had a circa-1970 window unit AC/heater that noisily turned on and off all night, blasting hot dry air that couldn't be escaped from the bed. I woke up every time it went off. The bathroom floor (ancient 2x2" blue tile) was filthy, and the sink/counter long overdue for updating. There was a molded plastic shower/tub unit, so some attempt at updating had been made. The small upholstered chairs at the table in my room were shot; sitting on them was like sitting on the floor. And there was no closet, just a vertical niche in the wall with 4 hangers. It was survivable (barely) but I won't be back. read more

We got exactly what we expected when we made the reservation-homey, clean, friendly and slightly outdated. The bathrooms have been modernized and they have free wifi. The staff was extremely friendly and the rooms were clean. They have a lovely gazebo on the property and at the time of our visit, Andy Griffith's sheriff's car and Emmett's truck were on display in the parking lot. read more

This is a the perfect exact of a classic motor inn. It is clean, well run, and has been kept up very well. The room was comfortable and the tv had every channel we could think of. The owners are on site and very friendly. We enjoyed the pool, gazebo and beautiful grounds. It was the perfect place to stay while touring Mt. Airy. read more

This cute little motel is from an era gone by. I reserved three rooms, and while the phone conversation was confusing, we had nice clean rooms waiting for us. Everything worked fine, and when you closed the door and turned on the air you couldn't hear a thing. Convenient to the town. The grounds were well manicured, even the back of the motel was clutter free. The pool was clean, and the folks were helpful. Would definitely stay there again. read more

This place is so cute and unique!! It is squeaky clean and everything you need is in your room. Has fridge and microwave. The atmosphere and staff makes the stay amazing. If you stay make sure you check out Aunt Bee's room and have your picture taken with Andy's sheriffs car. read more

Outdated is nothing compared to the filth!! There was mold on the shower curtain, in the corners of the bathroom floor, around the base of the toilet, and possibly explained the black marks on the washcloth. The grout in the bathroom floor tile looked like it had never been cleaned, the desk chair had so much lint/dirt/fuzzy stuff - yikes! - in the corners & seams I wouldn't even sit in it. The bed blanket was so old it had several holes, plus spots of food (?) or worse stuck to it. And breakfast was pitiful. It's only saving grace was the clerk who stayed on the phone with me providing directions after my gps sent me astray. read more
