If you're looking for a jump back to a simpler time with simpler motels, this is the place for you.
Located on U.S. 52, which was probably U.S. 52 By-Pass when built, the Andy Griffith Parkway Inn brings back a time when traveling cross-country in a car meant pulling up to your motel room door and having a parking lot for entertainment.
The motel is remarkably clean and recently renovated. If you're looking for a super-updated room with a faux-marble shower, this isn't the spot, but if you're looking for a comfortable bed, easy access to the tourist sites, and nearness to a few restaurants, this is your place. It's also about a mile to downtown Mt. Airy, which features the "Mayberry Courthouse," an Andy and Opie statue, and a museum that features Siamese Twins displays.
The motel is also pet-friendly, though there is a fee, and the walking path that runs through the front of the property with plenty of recently-mowed grass for a stroll with your four-legged friend.
On the down side, we never could get the internet to work (fortunately the cell phone service is strong), and many of the electrical outlets were worn and wouldn't hold a phone charger.
The bathroom was clean, and the towels were comfy. The furnishings, while not luxurious, were quite adequate for a comfortable stay, which in our world is a little desk for reading and answering a few emails and a place to knit. There was plenty of room for the dog bed.
For a few nights, this is a great place to use as a home base for your daydream back to Mayberry. read more
