a cup of coffee

Good coffee and great customer service. Also a great area to buy a coffee and just walk around. Would return!

No surprises here. Hipster paradise. Coffee is very good. Could easily be half the size inside and create a more interesting vibe. Tips are expected as is the norm these days.

This place is tucked in a little so keep that in mind when you're trying to track it down. It looks like it would be a lovely patio in the summer and the aesthetic inside is so quirky and fun. Nice that they have so many options for beans to bring home and different treats as well. I tried a latte. It was pleasant but it was pretty acidic for what I like. I'd give it another go in the warm weather and maybe try another beverage there.

London Fog and the most perfect scone.

An absolutely lovely place to relax, have a hot cup of something-or-other and a sweet nibble. We got the opening times of a local shop wrong but that's okay because Te Aro was open to shelter us for an hour or so. Even happier we were able to snag one of the few open seats when we arrived. I had a london fog and shared a breakfast sandwich and a scone. Everything was well made and delicious. The winner of the meal was definitely the scone, I loved the caramel-y crunchy outer layer. The prices are admittedly on the higher side. We could have had a full meal somewhere for the price of two drinks and two snacks, but you get quality food, great ambiance and friendly service. What a perfect way to start the day!

My go-to for Beetroot Latte and PB oatmeal cookie! I like supporting non-chained coffee shops because you can actually see the baristas ' true passion for making a nice cup of coffee. Wiish there were more seating outside so i can sit down & enjoy my coffee slowly, or even go back in and grab a second coffee because the first was too good! Good job for staying safe & following covid protocols during this difficult time!

CUSTOMER SERVICE: The staff was very helpful as to what is best to my liking. They were very patient with me and my family which I really appreciate! FOOD: I got the Cortado with a Buffalo Chicken sandwich. The coffee was very nice, smooth, and strong, just one of the ways I like my coffee. The sandwich was very appetizing as well! I would suggest this place for some good coffee, cute area, cozy and modern setting.

VEGAN OPTIONS - Yes They use Pilot roasters coffee. Overall my cappuccino was ok, but not great. Good texture and consistency. Perhaps I just didn't enjoy the beans? I may try this spot again if I'm in the area, but I don't think I would make a special trip here in the future.

In A Nutshell: -Te Aro is a cool little coffee shop that snuggled in the heart of Leslieville aka GTA. -The coffee comes from Pilot Coffee Roasters. -If you want a warm place to bust out your laptop or favorite book, this is the perfect spot to do so. -The staff is very friendly and so are the people who hang out here too. Overall, it's one of Toronto's top-rated coffee spots, so make sure you bookmark it!

My excoworker-turned-friend used to bring me treats from this cafe when we worked together years ago so this place has probably been around for a decade. I think in the last couple of years it was bought out by pilot coffee roasters which is why the menu and merchandise you see at Te aro is the same as other Pilot cafes. Since my friend and i no longer work together, he convinced me to take up running as a hobby with him by luring me with treats from te aro! The many many visits i have paid here are to grab post-running treats and it is the only way i will agree to run 10k+ distances. I usually get their latte and an earl grey vanilla scone or pb chocolate oatmeal cookie. Select baked goods are an additional 40% off to get rid of them in the afternoon before closing but their scones are usually gone pretty early in the morning. Pilot is also the only cafe chain in canada that uses oatly oat milk and is by far the best oat milk out there (oatly is also the OG oat milk brand). Oat milk pairs really well with matcha for those who are looking for dairy and/or coffee alternatives at cafes. One last thing i will mention is that while it isn't listed on the menu, they do offer larger sized drinks for an additional charge. I think it used to be their old "regular" size before Pilot acquired Te Aro.

Cute little cafe and patio. The Earl Grey oatmeal scone was big and hearty. I want to come back to try the oat milk latte, a friend said it's the best!

I really enjoy the atmosphere and the vibe at Te Aro. The inside is perfectly lit with warm and inviting lighting... It have to be one of the most quiet coffee place I been to, seems like everyone are whisphering in here... I love that communal table with the bar stool... even if you do come alone, feels like you are not alone sharing some spaces with others... The staffs here are all nice and cheery. The brew is a little stronger than the other places I been to for the Cappuncino I ordered but love the latte art. So pretty to look at....and of course served in the proper glassware +0.5 star Te Aro's patio is nice and inviting.. (I luck out.. no little ones or toddlers on this cool fall day.. but plenty of furry friends - the water bowels for doggie is a nice touch). It feels like an Oasis and a resort up North in the middle of TO. Free WIFI always and extra +0.5 star!! Used my Indie Coffee Passport here!

Nice looking place with lots of seating. Great espresso. Staff that does the little bit extra. Wifi tested terribly at 5/0 and I didn't see any electrical outlets. The table setup is great for working but come charged up and use your data for wifi. It seems like a good place to grab a coffee in the summer when I'm assuming there must be plenty of outdoor seating.

Te Aro is my favourite cafe in Toronto eastend and the best coffee in Toronto. I usually get a latte or an americano here. They sell variety of delicious baked goods and sandwiches too! It's a very work friendly cafe and a good place to hangout with friends - beautiful interiors and friendly baristas. During the summer they have a outdoors patio where you can enjoy the sun while you drink coffee. It seriously is my favourite coffeeshop in Toronto!

Delicious coffee & great vibe - if a bit pretentious. The outdoor seating's a bonus too.

Balzac's Coffee Roasters - Great coffee

Balzac's Coffee Roasters

The coffee and food is standard - average - certainly not third wave coffee. Historic building with seating both on the main floor and above. The coveted tables are on a small balcony overlooking the main floor. They also serve coffee in stall outdoors. It's often busy on weekends but there is outdoor seating if you can't find any inside. Definitely worth a stop to have a coffee and take photos!!!

We ended up at Balzac's in the Distillery District during a major winter storm after driving down…read morespecifically for SOMA's hot chocolate, only to find it (and many other shops) closed. Balzac's was open, which we genuinely appreciated given the weather. This particular Balzac's location is undeniably beautiful. Housed in a historic Distillery building, it has soaring ceilings, exposed brick, old-world industrial details, and a warm, cozy aesthetic that really fits the area's history. There was no lineup, which was a nice surprise, and despite many seats being occupied by people clearly settled in for long stays with laptops and personal setups, we managed to find a spot upstairs at a high-top table. We ordered the limited-time S'mores Hot Chocolate, described as a premium hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, toasted marshmallow, graham cracker, and chocolate drizzle. At $10, it felt overpriced for what it was. It's a sweet drink by nature, but this leaned heavily into a low-quality sugary sweetness rather than rich, chocolate-forward flavour. It lacked depth and didn't feel "premium" in taste, especially at that price point. Unfortunately, the upstairs seating experience also took away from the atmosphere. One customer was FaceTiming on speakerphone, loudly, making it hard to enjoy the space. It's a shame, because the café itself is stunning, but the experience really depends on everyone being mindful and co-existing in a shared space. Overall, I'm glad Balzac's was open during the storm, and the setting is gorgeous. That said, the hot chocolate didn't impress, and the noisy environment detracted from what could have been a much better visit.
