Still one star Lisa. The instructors are good, the business is not. There was no place In my account that stated that there was ever an expiration date to my membership. Furthermore when I spoke with somebody on the phone about my membership earlier in the year they said it would never expire. Only when I asked to place a freeze on my membership (for one month!) was I informed my membership had expired. Worse yet, it was you that told me that I could freeze and then unfreeze my account without effect. I stand by my review of one star. Your instructors might be good but that will never make up for crappy business practices. Things like when a membership expires needs to be transparent and readily available for a member at all times. Whether or not you send out emails informing someone of their membership will expire, that kind of information should at least be posted clearly in their account profile on your website. Otherwise it comes across as slimy and underhanded thus the one star review. It's important that I keep the one star because even though your instructors are good if the business is self is not good to work with other people need to know that. Such a great find in Carlsbad! Pilates has been the perfect addition to my fitness routine (I generally do high intensity/high impact circuit training workouts) and it has already started to change my body by truly toning areas like my abs and and legs! The Pilates reformer is wonderful as it allows you to keep the correct form all while targeting the areas that are hard to pinpoint normally - such as deep down in the abs! I also feel it provides an element of stretching and increasing flexibility. Sheri is my favorite instructor, she is so talented and her class is challenging! The best ab/buns workout I have done in a long time! The booking system is really easy to use too and they have a wide selection of class times. TIP: Take advantage of their new client special where you can try 8 classes for just $25! This is how I discovered the studio and really got a feel for how my body would respond! read more

This location has been closed for some time. When it closed, they told the members that they would be reopening at a new location close to the old location but that was last October and they have said nothing since. Every time I inquire, I am told that they have not reopened and I am given no additional information as to when or where they will reopen. I now believe they are not going to reopen a Carlsbad La Costa location at all. read more

Prior to joining Pilates Room in Carlsbad my only previous experience with the reformer board was my total gym at home and physical therapy sessions.. other than that the only classes I had done were Mat Pilates classes at two other local gyms. The minute I started here I loved it! I felt challenged and I love how the instructors correct your form. You have to sign up online before classes fill up because there's limited spots. When I signed up thinking I'd try it just for one month.. within the first week I decided to buy a year membership and have it effective a month later. I have no idea why people are talking crap about Deeptish in the previous reviews.. I found that he was helpful when I wanted to change my start date two weeks sooner because I used up my introductory offer faster than I thought and he replied to my email right away and resolved the issue. I just finished my first series of classes so I finally thought to write a review of my experience. SERVICE - After reading all the reviews, I was so nervous about response time because everyone said it took forever to hear back. I thought okay I am not trying to start for a month so let me just send a message and hope they get back to me within a month. However, Cathy got back to me a few hours after I sent them a message! She was very responsive and helpful. There was one time I had a issue with my account and she communicated with me letting me know engineers were working on it. She constantly sent me messages letting me know the status rather than keeping me in the dark. She was so great!! STUDIO - The studio itself was clean and the equipment was good. It was not as nice as Club Pilates but you were there for a good workout so it sufficed. CLASSES - I had taken classes with Nina, Samantha, and Anja. Nina and Samantha are sweethearts but I have to say my favorite was Anja because she kicked your butt but she always walked around and fixed your form (if needed). I personally liked that because being new to Pilates, I want to make sure I was doing each move correctly and safely. She also switched up her classes too. None of her classes were exactly the same which I liked. Overall, I had a great experience with this studio. This is the only second studio I have tried and I liked it a lot! GREAT! I have been taking Pilates for almost 6 years at a local franchise. I was skeptical coming here on a whim but I signed up, and have been coming back consistently over 4 times in a week. The teachers are beyond knowledgeable. I have been introduced to movements that have challenged my body that I have never seen at my other studio. I love that! The fact that they do not judge you if you need to leave early, realizing, life gets in the way, is life changing. I work on call and never want to cancel but still want to get a workout in whilst ensuring the staff gets paid. Thank you for making me not feel bad about this! I am not a fan of this business. Trying to contact customer service is a task! I took several classes when the studio opened and thought that it had potential, but the business seems to lack a human touch. The web site has meta tags stating "Pilates Room Studios San Diego Reformer Classes Under $5" but that is completely false. There are no classes for $5 and the membership discount rate breaks down to about $8 if you use all of your monthly classes. Use it or lose it though, those suckers expire with a big poof! Another issue to note is the scheduling software. They have taken the discount route and use software that does not store your favorite studio or show the number of spaces available in a class. I went to use a class but the site was not functioning so I contacted customer support and explained that I had tried to use three browsers and the site was down. I provided a screen shot of the bad page which showed my signature and the terms box checked, yet the button was grayed out and non functional. The customer support specialist clearly did not read my email OR look at the screen shot of the problem and sent me a canned email telling me to do what I explained that I already did. I could not get in for two days to schedule classes and because of their site being broken my membership expired with unused classes. Their customer service person could not care any less than she did, she simply let me lose the class that I paid for without lifting a finger to help me use the class that I clearly tried to schedule within the membership trial period. Business aside, the classes are okay but I cringe when the instructors do exercises that do not require equipment. Mat pilates is available at my regular gym with no cost and if an instructor does those exercises then why bother going to a studio? read more

I LOVE Pilates Room! I have been going here about 5 years. With all of the CRAZINESS that went on the last year and a half, I am SO grateful that Katia kept the studio open, with all of the safety protocol in place of course. Do not purchase the Groupon for this studio. It is 100% a scam. I bought it and was not able to sign up for classes. They said my Groupon was already redeemed. I reached out to their customer service and instead of offering to fix the situation they offered me a discounted membership. + the Groupon is more expensive than the same trial the studio offers for the same 8 classes. Update: customer service did eventually correct the situation and I did start regularly coming to this studio. I usually try to go to Anya's classes. She is my favorite teacher so far! I did however try power abs and buns this Sunday with Renee and was disappointed in her ability to give direction and her awkward small talk through out the entire class over a speaker. read more

This studio has terrible customer service. They are rude and lazy. You can not talk to anyone on the phone, only by email and they take forever to get back to you. The owner doesn't care about the clients, only about the money. She is a terrible business person. She does not honor memberships and changes prices on your membership without warning and then claims the company sent emails, but refuses to show proof of emails. Do not trust this business. If you sign up watch your account because they will most likely raise your membership or cancel your membership for no reason. It's hard for me to write a review based on the instructors because customer service took so long to get back to me! It's a bummer because I wanted to try these classes since they look great. First off, this business has a Groupon. Once you get the Groupon, you have to email the business in order to get it redeemed so you can take classes. So, I email the business. They claim to respond within 48 hours. A week goes by and I hear nothing. I decided to call and leave a message and email again. No response. I kept calling different hours but it kept taking me straight to voicemail. I got fed up and asked Groupon to refund my deal. After 3 weeks of originally getting in contact, I then get an email from the business saying I can take classes but that my Groupon was refunded. No No No and No Really liked the classes. Some teachers much better than other. But WATCH OUT. 1- When I joined, my card number was stolen & I was charged $500. I was NOT the only one this happened to. 2- Every month since I joined there has been an issue with my membership to the point where they wanted to charge me the higher price for class since they were saying I wasn't a member! 3- The system they book through doesn't give you credit back and then they charge your credit card for the class. 4- you need to provide 24 hours to cancel a class (which is fine) but they will cancel classes less than 24 hours- sometimes they will cancel classes all day. The instructors are not given direction on how to deal with complaints regarding company mistakes (which they shouldn't have to deal with) if management handled them properly. You have to send numerous email to have things rectified, show them documentation, then provide it again and again. You will Never receive an apology for the countless mistakes. They keep terrible records and will use false statements to try to blame it on you. They only provide an email NO CONTACT number. They only check email once a day in the morning. It took 2.5 WEEKS to handle the first issue with them and I missed classes for an entire week. If you have time to deal with COMPLETE INCOMPENDENCE EVERY MONTH then go for it but guard your credit card since they are very quick to add fees to it. Also- the good instructors seem to be reducing their hours and bad ones replacing them. read more

This is Jaclyn M again and this has gotten so much worse that I had to leave another review (see my first one below). After neither reversing (or responding to my thirty emails) about my $129 or $59 overcharge in December (and me thus asking to cancel my membership in writing early January), they charged my card ANOTHER $129 AND ANOTHER $59 charge on January 21! "Customer care specialist" Dee writes back about once every 72 hours and the response is always "our managers are looking into this thank you" which neither produce solutions or results. I called Amex to block any future charges and as you can guess, they still try to charge my card - as recent as yesterday. Amex has blocked two more $129 and $59 charges. Two months later I have yet to receive almost $400 in fraudulent charges, an apology, or a refund. I have never had such a bad experience with a membership in my life and will be taking this to small claims. read more

It was extremely easy to book classes- which they also have an amazing beginners deal! At the time we could still do in studio classes and everything was sanitized properly and we all were good distance from each other. Company keep charging monthly with multiple requests to cancel. BBB has an "F" rating for Pilates Room for good reason. Avoid at all costs. I stand by my review. My wife is the customer and has been given conflicting information regarding contract. One day we are told contract is up in February and payments contract ends. Now, due to freezes, the contract is extended 6 months. Not only were we duped into paying $30 freeze multiple times, now we still have to pay the extended contract. I understand your company is trying to stay afloat due to Covid, but overcharging your customers is not the right path. Shame. read more

Absolutely hillarious! Customer awareness & service is very direct and in your face almost rude. Just bad energy from the employees I have met. I purchased the Groupon eight classes for $19. Thank God that is all I bought. The first class I attended said all levels. When I showed up and told the instructor it was my first time she said good luck why did you choose this class? I told her it said online all levels. There were a lot of beginners in the class and she kept on going so fast that it wasn't really beneficial to anyone. There was only one person in the class who seemed to be able to execute the routine properly. My second class was scheduled to start at 12 Noon. On their website it says to arrive ten minutes early so I did. Upon arriving I opened the door and was rudely told we are not finished wait outside. Literally with those words. No hello, no thanks for coming, no hospitality at all. Wow I thought hmmm it looks like this place is filled with the same type of energetically draining employees. I was then informed that I had to buy an overpriced pair of socks if I wanted to workout. So I did. I didn't have to do this the previous visit. The two instructors I met seemed to be very ego centric and it was all about how they were the meanest and most skilled instructors. If you choose my class you're gonna get worked. Just a joke. I'm forfeiting the remaining visits left on my groupon and never going back to the Pilates room Carlsbad. Check out Club Pilates! I love Pilates! I can't say enough about the exercise especially as I have a bad back. I combine my Pilates workout with the gym work out to get the benefits of both types of exercises. I used to go to Club Pilates, but Pilates Room is only 1 min from my house so I decided to try it. My first time in the Carlsbad location was not a pleasant experience. The instructor, without even greeting me, immediately told me that it's gross not to have socks and that she hoped I had socks with me. Of course I didn't so I bought a pair from the store. I was the only person in there for another seven minutes and not once did she talk to me other than when I bought the socks. Nothing pleasant, she texted on her phone the whole time and then when the class began, she reluctantly looked up from her phone & asked for names to check everyone in. Unfortunately, she always teaches the time that I can make it so I am always stuck with her and even after four months she was still unfriendly. I tried out a couple other times to see if it was just her, and for the most part, the instructors are OK. The classes are great and they make up for the lack of personality of a few of the instructors. I quit going because it was so awkward to have that one instructor and that was the only time I could go. Even though the classes are really good, the fact that one or two instructors make the class so uncomfortable and awkward and are downright unfriendly I rated them lower. The whole experience should be fun and motivating and it's not at this location. I'm sorry to rate this place low but it's no fun to go to. I've talked to a few others that were in my classes and they felt the same way. But because it's convenient and close by our houses, they will keep going. I might try them again if I see they have different instructors and maybe my experience will be different. If it is, I am more than happy to rate higher! read more

Horrible customer service. You'll never be able to speak to anyone in the studio about your account. It's all done via email. I moved out of state. I was waiting for a few months for my house to close escrow. They asked for proof of my move which I couldn't provide since I was staying at a family vacation home until our house closed escrow. I offered the email to our landlord saying we were moving but that wasn't good enough. I opened a PO Box in our new state but they needed a utility bill. They put my account on hold for 2 months at $10/month. The third month they withdrew full payment of $60. By this time I had not been to a class in 3 months since I no longer lived in the state. When I gave them proof of my move they still wanted me to pay half of my remaining contract which was $50. I'm not quite sure why they needed proof of my move when they were planning on charging me for canceling anyway. Zero willingness to make an exception due to the fact I was out of state. I paid many months for classes I wasn't even attending because I literally could not go. I understand committing to a contract but if a customer moves out of state I would think they would be understanding and not charge, especially when it's only $50. Bad customer service but I guess from the looks of their run down old reformers why they need money. read more

I'm still on the fence about Pilates room. I've taken several classes here, and while I've gotten a good workout each time, I also get a weird vibe from the instructors. I've been taking Pilates on the reformer for several years, so I certainly am not looking to be babied by any means, but something just seems...off. I can't quite put my finger on it. I've actually left pretty sore before, and not in the good way. I tweaked my back during a bridge series, and it hurt for days. I'm sure my form was off, but it was never corrected by the instructor. I did purchase the membership of 8 classes each month for $39, because it's SUCH a good deal, however. I wouldn't recommend this studio for true newbies, though, since in my experience they are not putting enough emphasis on breath, form, and alignment. Edited to add: I'm still lukewarm about this place in general, but the instructor Wendy is absolutely amazing! She is absolutely excellent! read more

This was my first time taking a Pilates class and was initially intimidated. However, the instructors have been so kind and helpful. Instructions are easy to follow. So unhappy and dissatisfied with PilatesRoom Carlsbad. I signed up in September 2014- they sold me on the 6AM classes since I am a working professional. Yet they can't seem to find a replacement since December 2014. Going on 2+ months without a flexible schedule. I've emailed them Multiple times and they say the same thing, waiting for a qualified person. Did they not think of replacements or did they not think these thing would happen? That is the nature of any business, so just because someone quit, the customer pays? Wow, I don't think so. I work in San Diego and can't come to the 7am classes as I have more than a hour drive. 6am classes are perfect for me and may others. I am stuck with his contract and can't get out of it. They offered for 20 dollars more I can attend the other PilatesRoom, yet they are not near my work and home. If I don't use my 8 classes I loose them. I lost 3 classes this passed month as they didn't have any alternatives. I am really thinking of getting my lawyers friend involved for false advertising. I agree with the previous reviewer below who stated that this business has unfair practices. I had to freeze my membership due to my husband getting cancer and COVID. The studio was not able to open until months later. Despite this they made continued attempts to bill me. I had requested to cancel and they kept offering me to freeze again (for a fee) or extend my membership. I shared I was not comfortable coming back to the studio and my membership ended during the time they were closed down completely. They still insisted I pay an early termination fee, even though I was NOT able to go because they were closed legally and even after they opened I was not comfortable going. In the meanwhile, I moved and they offered me a move cancellation fee with proof of moving. I provided this and then they told me I didn't move far enough to qualify. The owners continued to press me to pay the cancellation fee then. This business cares more about policies than people. The instructors I took pre-COVID were great and I do hope they are treated better than this business treats customers. read more

Pilates is such a great workout, but hard to find reasonable pricing. I've been a member of Pilates Room Studios for several years & love it. My favorite teachers are Anya & Sheri. Anya typically teaches on Thursdays & Saturdays. She has a calm approach, but gives challenges to push us when we need it. She's very funny & has a great personality! Sheri is great too & teaches on Wednesday's. She too have a great approach & cute personality! All the instructors are great, but they are my favorite! They app is easy to use on the phone to schedule classes. However, I wish there was an easier way to add classes to your package. My account seems to get snagged when I go to add classes after I've reached my 8 class per month plan. read more

I love this place! I am not one for exercising but this place makes working out bearable. Not only bearable but fun ( with nice little breaks ) I love the feeling I get all over the next day. Several of my friends have signed up after 1 class. Good people. Good music. Good variety of classes. Good teachers. & The facilities are great. The socks are a rip off though (DO NOT forget them, you'll have to fork out another $20 on little grippy socks) Everything is done online so dont expect to get much knowing on the rules and regulations from the instructors. I have loved belonging to this studio. Membership prices are excellent and I love Missy, Wendy, and Whitney--the three instructors Whose classes I prefer. I gave it 4 stars bc the weekday class times are not convenient for working parents. I hope they hire a teacher who lives in N County and can teach at least two 6am classes per week (Mon/Wed). I will change my review when that happens :) A few other things I like about this place: conveniently located, everything done via app--you are in and out quickly (no standing in line to check in with a front desk, etc), clean, good instructors--I was new to Pilates and I feel so much better after 3 months of classes. read more

I have been going to this studio for over a year. Some of the teachers are hit and miss but Anya is the best. She keeps her classes moving a very fast paced and I always feel like I get a great work out from her. I move around other things on my schedule just so I can attend her class. I get frustrated when the teachers take a while to get class started or they are talking a lot. Do not sign up and let them rip you off. I have been very patient particularly since Covid about paying a freezing fee, no one willing to get back to me. I've also been a member for over a year and I'm within contract to cancel my membership and they are basically telling me that I still have to pay. No one is responding when I request a call back. Read the fine print. Just like other places they have been closed. I also have health issues that interfere with my ability to go and those things are not going to end in a couple weeks when they reopen if they reopen. In response to the emails they tell you to look onto zoom/online classes. Complete runaround through emails. Regardless of what they are trying to provide I signed up for a service that requires their machines, as well as the ability to come to an open live class.In the meantime they are still threatening to charge me monthly, refused to return my calls, and are sending me emails with threat of collection of my account. Pretty disappointing business and customer service. We are all taking a hit in one way or another because of what is going on. Staying healthy is a priority they should definitely be supportive of that. I was afraid this would happen because of the original reviews I read over a year ago. I should've listened to the original reviews and warnings of being scammed. THIS was before Covid even happened!!! NOT A GOOD WAY TO DO BUSINESS And even still since my contract ended on July 14 no one is getting back to me regarding my overall request. All they are doing is putting a comment on yelp and emailing me requesting me to delete my review or give them more stars than they deserve. I purchased the new client special 8 classes for $25, best value! I had never had done a Pilates reformer class before but every class I took I was able to complete all the exercises . This is one of the worst pilates studios I have been to in a chain that has been declining for some time. They might fool you with the low prices but that is because of the poor quality of instruction they are providing. Some of the other locations have featured good instructors but they have consistently let those instructors go for inferior instructors. Some of the new instructors feel like they are teaching for the first time and barely know how the machines work. I have been taking pilates for over a decade and these are some of the worst classes I have taken.
