Other pilates studios and instructors can really push you (in a bad way) but at South Bay Pilates, they encourage you to listen to your body and they offer modifications if needed. I've always found free parking on the street right in front without any issue. Class size is small (I think 8 reformers?) albeit a little bit cramped in the group class space of the studio. My BIGGEST gripe is the lack of air conditioning. Or, if they do have A/C, it's barely on! They do have a ceiling fan but I really wish they cranked up the AC, we're sweating over here and I need the air flow!

The studio has a variety of the classic Pilates machines and props; such as the cadillac reformer, tower, and original reformer. There was also tons of street parking which was great, I'd definitely go back soon.

A little background: I'm new to the area, and I did lagree for about 1.5 years when I lived near Arcadia. The machines there were the newer Megaformers, with black, white, and grey springs. At MDR, since they've been established longer in the South Bay, the machines are older generation, with red, orange, and yellow springs. They also have various footholds and handlebars set at different heights. Since I trained on the newer models, I'm still getting used to these older ones at MDR, and it can be a bit confusing. Sometimes I catch myself looking for footholds, or reaching for the wrong handlebar since I'm used to just one bar. That said, lagree is a fantastic full-body workout that targets your abs, legs, arms, and glutes. I still get a challenging, sweaty session every time, it is brutal in the best way. The instructors are helpful, and I don't mind the hands-on adjustments since that's how you actually learn and improve. I'm just not ready to commit to a long-term membership yet, given the South Bay pricing. Parking is plentiful, in the large shared lot with CVS and Bristol Farms.

I did Pilates five times a week throughout both of my pregnancies (up until week 39!) , and I truly believe it kept me in the best shape possible leading up to labor and delivery. It also helped my body get back into shape quickly afterward. What I love most is how I feel after every class. Even though I'm not breaking a huge sweat or doing an incredibly difficult workout, I leave feeling energized spiritually, mentally, and physically. My body feels amazing--completely stretched, lengthened, balanced, and harmonized from head to toe. If you're looking for a hard, high-intensity, cardio-style Pilates class, this probably isn't that.
