I was already thinking "what a deal!" at $5.00 alone or $6.10 with one side but when they arrived and there was about a whole chicken and pig per sammy, well, let's just say if I'd ordered more bread I'd be able to have at least two more sandwiches today!! My friend got the medium pulled pork plate, and thought the brunswick stew was good but didn't love the mac and cheese. My steamed broccoli was good but we both agreed that our best pick was the large size order of perfectly cooked crinkle fries we got - somehow they were still totally hot and crispy after delivery! Dependably, reliably delicious barbecue joint, especially for pulled pork. Unfortunately, this location has been closed for roughly the past month. Anyone know what's going on here? My lunchtime crew and I have been jonesing for the pig and this is our closest favorite. The management has a sign up saying other locations are still open. There are piles of furniture and boxes inside. (**Update: Re-opened March 23. Still tasty.) When it re-opens, a few comments: - I don't agree that this is a good place for groups. The max you can probably get in here on a typical lunch day is four people, unless you split up. Tables go fast from 11:30 a.m. till about 1:30 p.m. - This is not my favorite mac-and-cheese, if you want that as a side. Go with the veggies instead, or just a barbecue sandwich and fries. Brunswick stew is tasty, too. - Some of the 'cue servings come in portions of either "small," "medium" or "large." It took me a few tries to understand that "small" barely fills me up and "large" is almost too much to eat. If you're at all hungry, get a "large" portion. - As noted elsewhere, I'm a veteran BBQ fan and prefer my 'cue chopped or chipped, not sliced or pulled. I visited a friend in Brookhaven a couple weeks ago and we ordeded from here. To my surprise it was the best dang bbq I have had in a while. This place is not bad at all. I've had catered food from Pig-N-Chik BBQ but never actually dined in until earlier this week. This location is just minutes from my new office and it has quickly become my go-to BBQ lunch spot during the week. The teammates and I showed up hungry and were greeted promptly. You can definitely tell that this location has a lot of character & plenty of loyal, regular customers. I ordered the chopped brisket with broccoli and coleslaw as my sides. It was okay. I liked using the sauce on the meat but alone, it wasn't super flavorful. Perhaps they did that on purpose so you can add your pick of one of their home made sauces. I was a huge fan of their steamed broccoli and enjoyed their chopped coleslaw. The best impression I received was the friendly staff at this location and the restaurant was clean. 3 stars for the food and the 4th star was for the excellent customer service received here during my first visit. I looked back over the menu and saw in little tiny print "prices include cash discount". Are the seriously adding an extra 15% to thier prices for using a credit card without telling anyone?? BBQ wasn't even that great, chicken was dry and tasteless and had pieces of tiny bones I kept having to spit out. All the sides were good though, as was the pork. I am pretty shocked that I am the only person to review the redneck nachos. How have you people not had the redneck nachos? It is pretty much the only thing I eat there, because I don't really like their sides and just a sandwich doesn't feel like a meal. There is a real art form to the redneck nachos, which consist of (for those of you who don't know) fries (of the generic frozen, but freshly fried variety), topped with great big hunks of smoked pulled pork, topped with shredded cheddar cheese (the kind that comes pre-shredded in a bag, not a lot of flavor, but good for melting). When this comes out to me (ONLY EAT IT THERE!!!!!) I first sprinkle it with the vinegar hot sauce so that it drips down and soaks into the hot fries, much like chips and vinegar, you lose some crispiness, but it's worth it for the flavor enhancement. Next comes the Carolina mustard sauce, again sprinkle liberally. I then like to write a message to myself across the top using the thick sticky sweet red sauce, like eat me, and finally if I feel like being a pig myself, which is most of the time, I will get a mayo packet from the condiment stand and squeeze that over the whole mess. This is my only guess as to what skews the male to female ratio here, unless the real reason is that it's something much sexier . . . like that the Pig N Chik is really a gambling front or for undercover police surveillance. Regardless, the barbeque here is worth driving to the nearly OTP location - especially if you multitask and also get an oil change or your brakes fixed at one of the zillion dealerships. I've been to both Chik locations and had the best experience here . . . Let me start this review by saying that I am probably the only person in the world you will ever have declare that OKRA is my favorite food. Now that's out of the way...let me start my review. I currently live in Maine where okra is quite scarce, even in the grocery stores. So, when I have one of my work trips to Atlanta, I try my best to find some. Not knowing Atlanta well, I decided to do a search for 'okra' on Yelp and 'Pig-N-Chik' pops up. I check the menu, see fried okra, so definitely ordering that! Scanning the menu I see smoked wings...What?!?!? Definitely ordering that! Then, to make sure my order meets the minimum for delivery, I decide to order the collard greens. Ok, I know this is a risky choice b/c everyone don't know how to cook greens, but I figured if the greens are bad at least I have the okra. I place the order for delivery to my hotel with no problem. When the order arrives, I could smell the goodness permeating from the bags. I popped one of the fried okra in my mouth...excellent. I took a bite of a smoked wing...perfection. Then, with my palate already satisfied, I tried the greens...and well, I closed my eyes and squirmed with delight. Even the greens were good! All that to say...I HIGHLY recommend Pig-N-Chik!!! Over-rated and Unimpressive My friend wanted to hit our usual barbecue joint in Buckhead but I wanted to try something different. I have read several reviews of Pig-N-Chik on Yelp and many gave it high or favorable marks; so thinking it a safe bet, we checked it out. Unfortunately, the reviews I read didn't even come close to the expectations I had for this restaurant. The review I am posting is for the Peachtree Industrial location. Maybe the Roswell location might be better, who knows. Inside the restaurant, it pretty much looks like your standard variety picnic table setup with sports memorabilia and pennants. They do have a couple of TV's which were on sports channels. There didn't seem to be an issue with cleanliness as it was pretty much what you expect at a joint like this. It does seem to attract locals in the neighborhood which is probably what keeps them in business. You walk up to the counter, place your order, pay your tab, grab your drink and take a seat. They do deliver the food to your table on a plastic plate but that is about all the service you get. You have to go grab your plastic utensils and your own refills in your paper cup at the tea station. Ok, perhaps I am being a bit harsh on the plastic flatware and dishes, but if I am spending over 10 bucks for a dinner, I would like some real plates and utensils. Also, it would be nice to have a server or employee check on us at least once, but that never happened. I ordered the medium sized chicken with sides including fries and baked beans. The chicken seemed to have been sitting out for a while and arrived to our table at room temperature. It seemed edible eating off the drumstick and thigh, but when it came to the white meat, it was excruciatingly dry. I had to use excessive amounts of barbecue sauce to at least swallow without chocking at my throat. I practically gave up after a while as it was some of the driest chicken I have ever eaten. The french fries were your standard variety Orieda style frozen which was = FAIL. The only halfway decent thing I had was the baked beans. It did not knock my socks however. Again, I am still a bit baffled by the reviews I have read. I would not personally recommend this place based on my own experience and if you do, enter at your own risk. read more

Pig-N-Chik is located in a small strip mall (if you could call it that) on Peachtree industrial. It's not hard to find and there is plenty of parking. Both those qualities I think are big pros. The restaurant itself is medium sized with multiple table configurations to accommodate various group sizes. I'm not really sure why but my first impression of the place as I entered was "clean", another big pro. So far my experience at Pig-N-chick had been positive. As we entered we were greeted by the woman behind the counter, and after looking at the menu we approached the counter and the same lady efficiently took our order. I decided on the combo plate which comes with chicken, pork, beef and 2 sides. They had several side options with the entire usual suspect such as Brunswick stew, fried okra, baked beans etc. I went with the fried okra and the mac and chees as my two sides. Just as a note, sodas are in a can and therefore not refillable. However, the lemonade, sweet and un-sweet teas are refillable. Approximately ten minutes after ordering I got my food. The food served on a partitioned plastic plate and had a decent amount on I. However, I did feel the serving of mac and cheese and okra was a bit on the smaller side. The mac and cheese to my surprise was very good. The macaroni was not over cooked and the cheese was melted with a good consistency. The next item on the dish was the fried okra which was disappointing. The okra was breaded and was a bit cold. The Main part of my plate was covered with meat. As previously mentioned there was beef, chicken, and pork. The beef and the pork were good rating about 4 out of 5 . The addition of their sauce did improve the experience, however only marginally. Overall Pig-N-Chik gets a 4 out of 5 stars for good BBQ in an above average portion. It lost a star for the sides being on the small side. I will be going back. read more

I thought that this barbecue joint was great! The staff was friendly and the food comes out really fast. I went for Team Trivia last Monday night and I will definitely frequent this place! The food was really good and they didn't hide their meat in a pool of sauce. All the sauces are on the table and you pick the one(s) you like. Their drink specials are a good find too. Meh. Not really a great place to take Northern relatives looking for good, Southern authentic BBQ. However, the smokey flavor, and sweet sauce temporarily hit the spot. We picked up a full slab of pork ribs, and a pint of Mac and Cheese, and was very dispointed- the Mac was over cooked, and the cheese waaaaay too processed. The pork ribs, are reminiscent to smoked pork hamhocks used to season collard greens. The bones were meaty, but some what dried out, and tough. The guy who took our order was really nice and patient as it took my mom awhile to decide what she wanted, and our order was up in a matter of minutes. For openers, if you believe the best barbecue is always found in the worst part of town, in a place with bars on the windows and just enough grease on the tables to write your initials - then, this isn't it. What it is, is the second rendering of what has become a very popular place for barbecue... and where it is, is in a strip mall along a not so glamorous strip of Peachtree Industrial. Pig-n-Chik #2 (hereafter referred to as PnC2) opened its doors with a reputation already made... PnC1's (on Roswell Road inside the perimeter) pulled pork is generally recognized to be among the best, if not The, in the area: nice, juicy, smoke flavored 'cue with occasional bits of great char. The sides are basically the same: great stew (bits of a lot of things floating about - all of which combine to provide a unique flavor), just average slaw (no real identifiable or unique flavor), baked beans that are about the same as you find in most places), French fries (crinkly, fresh from the freezer), excellent fried okra and some really good collards... The real advantage PC1 has over number two is two fold: First, Peachtree Industrial doesn't have the great seasoned pork rinds that come as a side, and the folks on Roswell Road don't serve their ribs smoking hot. Our rib order at #2 was literally too hot to eat when the friendly server brought our order. Why? Probably because they were being kept "warm" in a too hot warmer. And what's the problem with that? Well, it cooks them all over again. So instead of getting good smoke flavored ribs, you end up with what can best be described as stew meat with bones - that all but falls off the bones. Tourists who don't know any better think that the ribs they're eating must really be good if "the meat is falling off the bone." The meat on ribs cooked low and slow should be tender, but not falling off the bones. PnC2 has a great staff, friendly folks at the counter and delivering the food to your table. Their sweet tea matches up with most all others in Atlanta and they offer a small, medium and large option on most plates - touching all the bases as they pertain to appetite and cost. They have three sauces: a spicy that really isn't; a Carolina mustard based that is fairly good if you don't mind the esthetics, and a solid sweet sauce... almost thick enough to hold your fork (plastic) upright. A distinct flavor that is unique to PnCs 1 and 2. Have several bottles on the shelf at home. The Brown Shoe Gourmet has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the perfect barbecue... Peachtree Industrial's PNC2 isn't it... but if you're up for some good pulled pork, you won't be disappointed. Looking for pork rinds or some decent ribs - you will. read more

As I have stated in some of my other reviews of BBQ joints (see my review for Maddies) Barbeque has always been a favorite of mine. And my ex is a Yankee from New York who hates BBQ. Now that we are divorced, I no longer have to be deprived of having it as often as I'd like. Ever since Benny's BBQ on Ashford - Dunwoody Rd closed up shop, I have been searching far and wide for something as good. I want to love P n C because I met the owner one night when I was out drinking and he seemed to be a genuinely nice, cool dude. He even gave me his card with a voucher for two free combo plates, hand-written and signed, on the back of the card (How cool is that?!) I ended up giving the card / free food voucher to my parents. I think they lost it and never used it. P n C does a good job, although I found some room for improvement. I had heard good reviews from credible sources. Like most independent BBQ joints, you order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. Napkins, cups, plastic wear and drinks are for you to fetch yourself - which may not be good if you go with small kids or elderly parents / grandparents. I ordered the pulled pork plate with two sides and it was more than enough to feed a big lummox like me. The meat was tasty and the sauce was very good. I ended up getting a to-go box for what made for a nice snack at work the next day. The sauce comes in ketchup / squeeze containers situated on all the tables, like Sonny's, which I find convenient since you don't worry about running out of sauce. I think there were two or three different kinds of sauces to choose from in varying levels of spiciness. As far as the ambience goes, the decor is similar to that of Po Folks or Sonny's and is sort of Southern kitschy / redneck / countrified, which is usual, average, and altogether appropriate for a BBQ restaurant anywhere in the South. I liked the Brunswick stew; however, I have yet to find B-Stew as good as the stew at Benny's. The mac and cheese looked like it came from a box; however, my kids gobbled it up like candy and I kept ordering more of it for them. My mom ordered the chicken and raved about it although it did not appear to be as plentiful a portion as the pork combo plate. The bread was the ubiquitous plain BBQ bread and my mom and grandmother complained since they prefer the toasted garlic bread or Texas toast like you get at some other BBQ joints / chains around town. My grandmother seemed to enjoy the food; however, she said she would probably not return. But hey, she is a Yankee and an old lady, so you should regard her opinion rather lightly (Sorry Gram). Growing up in South Carolina, BBQ to me has always meant pull pork. After moving to Atlanta, I found that this meaning, along with the quality, is subject to many variations. My fiancee and I have been on a quest to find BBQ that most closely resembles what we have grown up eating. This would be a plate of pulled pork, Carolina style mustard base sauce, and the standard sides (Mac/cheese, beans, Brunswick stew, etc.), which is served at a reasonable price. Pig-N-Chik definitely delivered on all fronts. While I have been to other places (Fox Bros, Fat Matt's, etc.), this place most closely resembles what I consider an excellent BBQ place. The Food: I ordered the pull pork plate with beans and mac 'n cheese. The pork was moist, the beans were good, however the mac 'n cheese tasted canned. The lady had the Brunswick stew which was also very good. The Carolina mustard base sauce was excellent, probably the best I've had in the ATL. This is always a major selling point because even if the meat is mediocre, a good sauce can make up for it. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of ketchup based sauces, too sweet, although they did have that and a vinegar-spicy base. Everything Else: The restaurant is pay-at-the-counter style. They have tea and lemonade on tap, whereas they have Coke in cans. The overall dining room was clean and quaint. Overall, unless I'm feeling adventurous, this is my go to spot for BBQ. read more

Based on the great reviews for the other location, I decided to try the place out last night. But I got lazy on my way home from work and the Peachtree location was closer to me. It's a cozy spot with a home-y feel. I had the famous pulled pork sandwich with beans and Brunswick stew. Came out to about $8.50 iirc. Overall, the sandwich was decent except for a piece of hard to chew (it was really tough and inedible) skin. It was definitely not as moist or tender as the other people say. I took about 2 bites au natural but I couldn't stand it and had to use the bbq sauce. As for the sides, the beans were solid and the Brunswick stew was pretty tasty. It was my first time having Brunswick stew so I have no baseline to judge it by....but it was definitely tasty and that's why I boosted the rating up to 4 stars. I didn't have the best sandwich and due to the number of people giving this place 5 stars, I will consider the experience as the exception and not the norm. At the very least, I can have the stew......but redneck nachos looked interesting too. I'll try it again maybe next week. read more

Uh oh this place is good and too close to my place. If you want to try a bit of everything order combo 2. The ribs are fall off the bone good. Pulled pork and pulled chicken are delicious. Brisket is good as well. They were out of wings so they gave us extra brisket and ribs. For the sides, I tried the tater salad and baked beans. The baked beans are amazing! Tater salad was just ok. I've had better. I've seen others complain about portion size but I thought the portions were perfect. Actually one combo stuffed 2 people and feeling satisfied. Customer service is great too. One con I found is that there are not many sauce options and they don't cook with it as well. I'm a Sauce kinda person so that's something I would like to see more of. Pulled pork is good, and rather typical. Beans were great. Brunswick stew was the best I've had in the area. Parking is ample, on a strip mall lot, and location is convenient. Barbecues can be grubby and you feel as if you stick to everything you touch (cf. Harolds), and want a shower when you return home. It's a BBQ place so it should be kind of grimy...it is - barely air conditioned (could be the strip center they are in as it is ANCIENT) and there are always flies. The bathrooms are hot and generally dirty - new paper dispenser but then a grease covered trash can that you have to touch to throw away your paper towel..... It would be fair to say the devil is in the details but these DETAILS are SCREAMING SIRENs. Probably the safest place on earth to eat...every time I am there the police are there and they are there for the food, not the jokes. FOOD time: - Good sides - broccoli, corn, cole slaw and collards are good. DO A BETTER job on your french fries and beans.....put some love into them. BBQ - Ribs tender and served dry - fell off the bone....3 ribs, two sides and a piece of fluffy bread will set you back $10. Turn on the AC for that amount. ***There are three sauces - spicy, vinegar based - I like. Sweet and syruppy BBQ - good for dunking in BBQ chicken and the dryer pork, mustard based is not my favorite but has a tangy quality. BBQ chicken - good smoky flavor nice color on the outside Pulled pork - it has varied in quality from passable to good...outstanding is not the word. The surprise: They do a very nice BBQ salmon - I recommend you try it. The kids will eat here and that is good, especially that they have good sides. They serve corn dogs, Moon Pies and Pabst on tap - that should make it 3 stars.....but they got to clean up the amenities. Good deals on ribs, wing and beer when a local sports team is on the television. Mon, Tues and Wednesday there are half price meals for kids...that is a good deal. This place has the potential to up their game. Add a smile to that service team and do more than turn out passable BBQ.....remember eating out is about the whole package.
