YUM! Recently traveled around Belgium and found this place just in passing. Prior to coming in here, we had tried many other restaurants which were either fully booked or already closing -- but this place was happy to sit us. My friend and I decided on the pre-set menu for 27 Euros. Which included, cheese croquettes, steak (as pictured), and a delicious chocolate dessert. Everything was AMAZING. The steak was one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted. I am unsure what the sauce is that they put on top, but it was very flavorful. Combine this with a few Duvel which were reasonably priced, and you have yourself a FANTASTIC meal.

Easy walk down a nice secluded Rue or Via or Street. Great Historical Building

Thank you!! A respite from a cold rainy night and being turned away from another restaurant's Reservation because of Covid Panic, this was also the BEST food we've had from Paris and Normandy to Here. Great service and fair prices. The Rack of Lamb was Delicious and the Au Gratin potatoes was also the Best I've ever had. (Secret cheese sauce? Gruyere!) We eat a Lot of Beef in Wisconsin and my wife finished the Irish Hereford. That says a Lot. Don't forget to choose the Roquefort sauce. Sit in back by the fire and have a quiet romantic dinner. I recommend it.

Shrimp Scampi. So delicious! Shrimp perfectly cooked

Good Belgian food, good service, reasonable priced for a special night out. Shrimp Scampi a must try! We had steaks and they were well cooked.

The meatloaf with potato salad and egg sunny side up was DELICIOUS! I was a little skeptical but it made my night. DECOR - As soon as we pulled up in the parking lot I was impressed with the layout and decor of the place. You could tell the building is well cared after. On the inside everything is beautifully decorated with floor to ceiling of wood. Great for groups, lots of space and a beer garden. The staff is friendly and makes you feel at home. The owner greets and spends time with customers through out the evening. Just a great vibe and most importantly an enjoyable evening. FOOD & DRINK - the menu has a great selection of fantastic beers and Bavarian food. Our picks were the sausages with kraut which was to die for. Two of us were not big on kraut but in this case cleaned the plate. For mains highly recommend the jäger schnitzel, the meatloaf and the cordon blue. For sides we had spatzel which is buttery pasta bits, potato dumpling which consisted of a fluffy starch ball, and traditional potato salad. The schnitzel was the best I've ever had and I've had my fair share of German food but Bavarian style takes the cake for me.

Choose among a large selection of Schnitzel or Kassler, Eisbein, Sauerbraten, sausages, etc. The menu also has a different 'dish of the day' every day and delicious seasonal specialities. Very tasty German food and good value for money (considering the location of the restaurant). One minus point though: The ventilation sometimes does not work very well and there can occasionally be a rather strong smell of 'kitchen' especially on the crammed upstairs landing and that smell unfortunately stays in your clothes for hours afterwards. -- Update 1. September 2011: Unfortunately I had bad experiences on my two last visits. The first incident was when I saw one of the cooks use the toilet, without washing his hands afterwards, at least not in the toilet. I hope that he did it in the kitchen before handling food again, but it is not very good advertising to behave like that in front of a customer! Yesterday (31.8.2011) my friend and I both ordered pork knuckle (Eisbein). We were told that it would take 20 minutes, and we agreed, but when my friend dug into her meal, it turned out that the meat inside was still completely deep frozen! Added to that the service was very slow and inattentive despite the restaurant being less than half full. We had to wait very patiently for our beers and remind twice to get the check. Since Maxburg is (probably and unfortunately) the only German restaurant in the 'european district', I will not give it up completely, but I will reduce my previous (already generous) 4 star rating to 2. If they improve the service and revert to serving well cooked and tasty food, I may change my rating.

The kitchen staff hustled to keep every dish and platter fresh and filled, even on the very busy days, when the Marriott was at capacity, and every seat was filled. The two dining rooms were very comfortable, offering amazing views of the Kornmarket and canal. The full American breakfast was 32€ per person, and the Continental breakfast was 22€ per person.
