By the registers, they have 3 Self Checkouts for easy self-serve shopping. One staff was monitoring the operations but it was a seamless experience for me. You just gotta keep in mind you are downtown so you may encounter unhomed people and all that comes with that.

The pharmacist, Colin, needs anger management classes. Yesterday, after receiving a text two days…read moreearlier from my doctor saying my anxiety meds that I was completely out of were ready, I went to pick up my prescription and they said it wasn't there. From his perch, Colin asked which meds and I told him. He said I'm not due for a refill for 2 more weeks. He obviously didn't get the update from my doctor that two weeks earlier I was instructed to double my dosage and now I was out. My doctor also made it clear that it was medically dangerous for me to stop taking those meds cold turkey. I tried to appeal to Colin's humanity and asked if it was possible to borrow a couple doses until we got it figured out, he suddenly became enraged, yelled at me over my weak pleas for understanding, got down from his perch and stormed towards me in a threatening manner, raising his voice all the way, then slammed a copy of my old prescription (instead of the updated one) down on the counter and began to turn to go back to his high horse. He was behaving like a petulant child. I have been patronizing his shop for 12 years, since we moved to Elgin, and it was always pleasant there. I kind of looked forward to visiting his pharmacy. My wife and I prefer to shop locally. But yesterday, Colin seemed crazed suddenly for no good reason. After several calls to my doctor's office, the prescription finally got updated at Elgin Medicine Shop. I called from my job in Austin to see if Colin had received the new 'script and he said he had. Then I merely remarked "you were a tad aggressive today" hoping we could find a way to smooth things over, but he doubled down, raising his voice again, saying I wouldn't listen to him earlier. It is true, I wasn't listening to him say over and over that the prescription he had wasn't the dosage that I was told. But isn't it part of a health care professional's job to listen to the patient/customer? I told him that after I picked up these meds I was going to find a different pharmacy from now on. He exploded "We can end this relationship right now! What pharmacy do you want me to send this to?" I just hung up, shaking. Boy, I guess those meds do work because I felt like I had been set way back in my wellness journey. Colin then called my wife, at her job, asking her which pharmacy did we want him to send the prescription because I had hung up on him, adding that I was going to claim that he yelled at me but he didn't. She said that he did say he was "stern with me". Since when is it remotely acceptable for a pharmacist to get "stern with" a customer trying to get their anxiety meds??? Seriously, Colin should be investigated, for the safety of our community. Steroids, maybe?

However, today, I went to the tattoo and piercing shop and discovered that I needed to buy vitamin E for my former piercing to heal. The moment I entered the store, I was greeted immediately by a lovely woman. She immediately addressed my needs and the pharmacist behind the counter, even went above and beyond to recommend a product that is used for compounding. This makes me so happy to experience a unique interaction, but it also gives me the ethos to recommend that if you shop here you should always ask for the pharmacist's advice because you never know what they might have behind the counter. Although I cannot speak for the pharmaceutical side, I can say that this place has ample choices to choose from on the market side. They even had quite a bit of product on clearance, which was super cool.
