Had our son's graduation dinner here. It was a very nice place, but not as good as I expected. The good things: they took our reservation for 13, they had a great menu with several choices I actually wanted, the drinks were good, the service was very good, and the views are outstanding. The not so good things: several people in our group were unhappy with their meals (duck was chewy and a bit over, lobster was rubbery, Ossi bucco was over-cooked and dry, grouper sauce wasn't traditional, NE chowder didn't taste right, and one of our prime rib cuts came out over-cooked twice). My scallops were good, but the sticky rice wasn't hot enough and the wok vegetables were underwhelming and could have had more seasoning). It was very helpful that they took care of that after we explained the issue. Overall not sure I'd return. read more

Long lapse since our last time. First time outside- beautiful setting on the Manatee River. Had the very attentive and professional Kennell serve us. Went during happy hour ( daily 3-6). As a family, we recently had dinner up Pier 22 to celebrate my dad's birthday and everything from the service to the ambience to the food was 10 out of 10! I wish I could remember our server's name, but his honesty was appreciated and his energy was exuberant. We ended up sitting outside on the patio and it was such a treat to not only watch the sunset, but all the fun and beautiful boats that passed by the Rockefeller oysters and the lobster cargot are must orders! My husband ordered the stuffed salmon and cleaned his plate while I opted for the grouper piccata. It was my first time trying grouper, and I'm definitely a fan. read more

Went alone one Sunday afternoon and was sat by the water with a great view. It took a long time to be waited on and unfortunately the waitress was not friendly or as warm as I expected or have experienced in the area. I ordered off the happy hour menu, had a Paloma and some kind of crab appetizer that had some bits of shell in the middle, nothing was done to rectify this or even an apology given but I didn't make a big deal about it either. I had a cup of clam chowder and it was incredible. Nothing needed to be changed there, the fresh bread that was brought was also a nice touch. I'm a regular at this place and last night we tried a few different things. We sat outside on a Saturday night by the water and it was nice. The only thing that was not enjoyable was the choice of music. The music didn't match the ambiance. Service depends on your waitress or waiter- last night the lady didn't fill up our waters enough but she was still nice. French onion soup- no one cared for it because it had scallions in it Chicken wings- were ok, nothing stood out to us French dip- didn't care for Grouper Picatta was delicious!!! Never had street corn flatbread but it was very good and will def have again. Had wings and deviled eggs with bacon and stuffed jalapeños which were too spicy hot for me but others enjoyed them. Service was awesome! Kelly did a great job. We had not been since a funeral reception for a friend 15 years ago. Looks like newly remodeled outside. We ate inside with a view of the Manatee river. I got one of the specials 8oz lobster with hollandaise sauce and Parmesan cheese. I got cream spinach and a half a twice baked potato for my two sides after eating half the lobster I was very full. We did have a bowl of clam chowder with a clam in every bite, it really was one of the best clam chowder around my other half got the other special which was red fish with a lemon butter sauce, which was so good got extra sauce. The views both outside and inside are wonderful and the prices were very reasonable especially for a beautiful location getting there a little early before six. It's happy hour so saved money on cocktails so very affordable will definitely be back for date night. We do date night once a month and pier 22 will definitely be in the rotation. read more

We recently dined here and had a mixed experience. The atmosphere is definitely a highlight--beautiful outdoor setting with soft lighting and a relaxing vibe that makes for a lovely evening. The food, however, was hit or miss. The presentation looked promising, but some dishes fell short in execution. The steak was a bit overcooked and lacked flavor, and while the seafood and asparagus had potential, they didn't quite come together as expected. The dish with the sauce was especially disappointing--heavy and overpowering, taking away from the rest of the flavors. I came here for the water and the view, which is amazing. I opted for the crab cakes (broiled and served with a Creole remoulade, and extra vegtables - $34) and my colleague ordered the chicken penne pasta ($26). I guess I should have paid attention that the crab cakes were broiled -- I prefer mine pan fried with a crunchy crust on the outside. Broiled made it more like catfood, unfortunately. Views and cleanliness 5 star. Our server was helpful and very nice. My martini was good and they have stuffed olives which is a plus. I had the catch of the day with chef vegetables and risotto. It was just okay. Fish was battered with black olives on top. The broccoli and carrots didn't have much flavor. We ate here about 4 years ago and did not return til this past weekend. We were seated outside without any wait time which was nice. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive throughout, and the prices were not that bad. When we ate here 4 years ago we were not that impressed, but everything we had on this visit was really good much to our surprise. We ordered short ribs, monte cristo, and the French dip. The bbq sauce on the ribs was awesome, the monte cristo was very memorable in a great unique way, and the French dip was tender and delicious, the fries I think were hand cut and they were ok. I so looked forward to our Pier 22 experience. I requested their best table and got a lovely table on patio with great water view. Wait staff was pleasant but we felt pretty neglected for our meal. While we were visiting in Florida, we decided to try out Pier 22. Highly recommend going during happy hour. Our food was good we ordered the muscles. They were in a white wine, garlic butter and spinach sauce. I wish we didn't have to ask for bread, but we did even though I thought it was offered it wasn't. Then by the time we got our bread, which was approximately 10 minutes later our muscles were cold. Our service could've been a little bit better. The ambience was beautiful as we were looking onto the ocean. We will definitely return the next time We are in Florida. read more

Pier 22 is a large well-operated restaurant, with a large menu focused on seafood, but with something to offer for all tastes. The view of the wide river is delightful during daylight hours and the outside seating area is quite nice. The Pier 22 Salad was great and the Grouper Oscar with crab meat over corn risotto and topped with asparagus spears was exceptional. On a later visit, we had oysters (just one option -- they were large and meaty, but not the best flavor), Lobster-cargo (lobster in garlic butter -- excellent), fish tacos (delicious and satisfying) and some yellowtail nigiri (decent, but I'll stick with the regular menu items in the future). Prices, including for wine, are very fair for a high-end restaurant. Service was prompt and professional. I'll definitely return when visiting again! read more

Such beautiful views from the patio of the Bay Area. We also got lucky and arrived during happy hour. They make a great old fashioned , very stiff the way I like my old fashioned. I ended up ordering two especially with the happy hour special of $8/. The balsamic chips make for a delicious appetizer and I recommend you order two for the table. This place has a great view but after many tries we have found the food subpar at best and the service was subpar also. On our last visit my wife and I had the 1976 salads. My wife had the smaller salad and I had the larger one. The only difference was the increased price and the portion looked the same for the large only in a bigger bowl. The salads were awful with soggy lettuce, they were watery, and had very little taste. The waitress seemed put out by having to refill our drinks and was not attentive at all. Stephanie was our server this afternoon and was spot on! She was very attentive and since we were here for the fabulous happy hour that made a big difference. But she didn't bring it for what seemed like 20 minutes. Took awhile to get the check. Took awhile to get the change. Then the food. Shrimp was overcooked. Chicken was overcooked.
