Because of COVID, I have been getting my haircut by Charli V. at home for the past four months. But now that Piedmont Barbers is open, I decided to venture back out to get a hair cut by Chris again. After setting up an appointment on their website, I arrived right at 10am and followed the COVID protocol: 1. Put on a mask. 2. Get a temperature check at the door. 3. Wash your hands in the back I have a usual haircut, but because it had been cut at home for a while, Chris gave me a transitional haircut to allow it to get back to normal for my next appointment. Thankfully, I was able to walk get a seat for a cut as a walk-in. They seem to really honor their schedules where I've been to other places that would try to squeeze me in between appointments as a walk-in. Not too sure if I like that just yet. Can't say I was a huge fan. I called earlier in the day to make an appointment since most of the reviews on Yelp recommended it. When I arrived they were ready for me but it was an attitude of, "come over here, let's get this over with." I can't remember which barber cut my hair but through our conversation I just got this feeling I was more of a burden than welcomed. The cut was good. The barber cut my hair as I liked it but after getting home and showering, I realized he didn't manage the back of my head well. There was a small area I had to clean up a little. When I need a quick trim, I go here. It's a basic barber shop with lots of barbers. Don't expect hair stylists to do coloring, fades, etc. It's not that kind of place. The key to getting what you want here is to communicate (maybe even over-communicate). All of the barbers here are very conversational, and they will regularly ask if your happy with the haircut and make any adjustments upon request. With that said, don't be afraid to be as specific as possible in what kind of look you're going for. I'm actually not used to barbers/hair stylists checking in so often, but I can appreciate their concern for my satisfaction. There's an impressive reservation system on their website through which you can schedule by available times as well as a specific barber. Went and saw Chris for a haircut because AJC had listed him as one of the best barbers in Atlanta. I will say that he was friendly but he completely missed the look that I wanted. I showed him a reference photo and he seemed to acknowledge it but by the end of the hair cut I could tell that he really didn't pay much attention to detail at all. He went way shorter on the sides than the reference I showed him. I recently moved to ATL as of two days ago and needed a haircut. I went to Piedmont Barbers after reading the reviews on Yelp. I made an apt online thru their website with Chris I choose him only due to the number of listings on here that mentioned him. I would recommend you make an apt. they were pretty booked the few walk ins they had had to be scheduled for later. When I arrived the place was neat and clean, it has a mixture of salon styling with good ole barber shop feel. It's not your typical barber place for sure. The conversation was "lively". It felt like I was in a caddy version of the Barber Shop in the movie Coming to America. It was just awesome. The haircut was great. Chris listened to what I asked for and did a fantastic job on my hair. I'm huge on the fade NO LINES!!!! Chris did an excellent job. I left there feeling like I have found my new hair place. The cost was decent enough as well at $19 for a haircut. Wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks for a great cut and I'll be back for sure. While I used Chris, Jay and Chago were also there and watching them do hair they do great jobs as well you really can't go wrong it would seem with any of them. read more

I moved to Atlanta 1 year ago and have tried 3 different barbers at 2 different shops. I was trying to keep it walkable from midtown. They were all more expensive than Piedmont, but the cut I got from Barry at Piedmont Barbers was probably the best I've had in my life! I'm so happy that I finally have found my spot. This place "was" simply as good as its past Master Barber. If you look through and find the actual honest reviews - every single one of them is for JP. JP no longer works here. The other "stylists" are not well trained and frankly lack the attention to detail that was once available through the aforementioned barber. As for Piedmont Barbers - I was a long time customer of JP, when he left they refused to tell me where he went, even going as far to attempt to misdirect me all the way to Marietta. Such is life - I likely wouldn't have updated a previous review of the business otherwise, but customer service goes a long way in today's world. Anyways, since I had been back for an emergency haircut I was severely disappointed, the attention to detail and general barbershop "drama" were less that acceptable. I went it asking for the sides to be cleaned up / lined up and I ended up leaving with no hair on the top of my head and a widows peak that rivals count chocula. So after a fair bit of research, I have taken my business back to who the majority of these five star reviews are for - JP "Master Barber". Furthermore, I would NOT recommend this establishment to any of my friends. Do yourself the favor and look elsewhere. Dishonest ownership makes way for bad business. You'd think after getting over 125 haircuts every 2 weeks dating back to when Chris just started with a single chair in the retail center where the Pot & Pan was (now a Sprouts and apartment complex) I would have done this sooner! So no offense to the "hey I went there once and it wasn't perfect" reviewers (oh dear my life is ruined!) ... and the "it's all about the single barber I loved who's no longer there" guys (boo hoo ... just follow him and quit your whining) ... and my favorite "yay for me I saved $3" reviewers (all together now: "cheap!") ... Piedmont Barber's track record of consistent solid performance at a fair price deserves better! Simply put: These guys (men and women!) are the best barbers in Atlanta. If you need a great haircut this is a REAL BARBERSHOP. They have all the tools of the trade: a full array of electric trimmers, shavers, and specialty thing-a-ma-giggies that enable them to do top-notch work. They'll use the blade setting(s) you prefer or they'll cut your hair based on their expertise and experience. And they'll use name-brand products on your hair ... all of which Chris sells for a fair price. I don't know a thing about the technical aspects of a haircut ... but they do! And I often hear them discussing the fades, edges, lines, lay, etc. (insert other barber techno speak here!) because these guys are pro's! No offense to the recent 1-star reviewer who questioned the training of the barbers, if you only went to one barber, you're hardly qualified to rate the training of barbers who never cut your hair! The professionals who make the cut (pun intended!) getting hired and asked to remain choose to stay there! All shops have natural attrition, and that's normal. But what speaks for itself is that the barbers who come to Piedmont Barbers who provide great service and are also team players choose to stay. Of the 8 stations in this shop, 7 have been consistently occupied by the same barber. And I'm proud to say that many have cut my hair, and I know them all by name ... Jim, Tracy, Brad, Mark, Rachel, Barry, and of course Chris. Need a quality haircut? This is where you should go. This is a no frills Barber Shop that gets you in and out in 30 minutes, and they ALWAYS deliver a great cut. I've been coming to them since they opened, and the only one cutting hair was the owner, Chris. Through the years, I've talked to him about his standards, and I would be comfortable with ANYONE in the shop. I also know, that if you are not happy with a cut, the shop will do whatever it can to make it right. I would recommend this place to anyone. Five stars because 10 stars isn't an option. As a three year client of Piedmont Barbers, this review is very past due. If memory serves, six barbers at the shop have cut my hair over the years and they all care about providing a quality experience and product. Jim is my usual barber these days, but I am not averse to the others cutting my hair if Jim is unavailable. Barry and Chris are my other two "favorites" (I use that term loosely because all of the guys are sharp and Chris, the owner, really cares about the business and the clients... and you can feel this with the entire shop). I don't want all the newcomers sucking up Jim's appointments :), so definitely give the other guys a try! They are always friendly, welcoming, and attentive to the extra details that distinguish a great haircut from a decent one. If you have never experienced a hot towel or straight razor on your hairline, you aren't doing it right! With traffic, schedule mixups, or just plain human error, I have no showed two or three times since becoming a client three years ago. I still feel terrible about it and they never mention it. They have also been very accommodating when I have arrived late because of traffic, work, or whatever the reason. I really try not to abuse their latitude and plan ahead now to make every effort to be there when I'm scheduled, or even a few minutes early... the banter and eye candy are worth an early arrival. Although they are good about working in same-day appointments or walk-ins, I strongly suggest booking online or calling to schedule an appointment at least a few days in advance. It gets rather busy sometimes and you can help heighten your experience by planning ahead. Think about it - if a shop always has empty chairs and you can drop in every time with no wait, how good can they be? read more

Another "The Shave" Victim they called me... I didn't realize how much I was missing out on (and overpaying) before I came here. As many people who have reviewed The Shave, although I love the store and the people there, over time, I couldn't help but feel like the cost was becoming more than the quality of haircut I was getting. My part was funny; I had stray streams everywhere, they stopped doing the straight blade shave on my neck to finish, and the cut was getting shorter and shorter while the place was getting busier and busier. Piedmont Barbers was different. Atmosphere: it seemed like a local hangout spot. It seemed like the customers knew the staff and the staff knew them = repeat customers. Cut: I'm not sure if it's because of how much I complained, but my haircut by JP was very good. He wasn't the quickest, but man was he focused. He zeroes in like someone playing one of those carnival games where you don't let the side of the ring touch the metal track. I could tell JP was very meticulous about every snip of the scissors he took. He asked me if I had gotten my "neck shaved" to which I replied "neck shaved?" getting all self conscious wondering if I had a forest back there. He chuckled and said, "Well you haven't had a proper haircut then!" It started off with warm foam that he lathered on the back of my neck. Then he took a hot towel, put more foam on it, and then put it on my neck with the simple words, "You're gonna enjoy this." It was weird as a guy to hear these words from my barber.... but he was right. It was gooooooood. Finished off a clean cut with a straightedge blade. Free wash and styling included. $20+tip (no hipster tax included). I was in high spirits and even a week later, I like my haircut. Will frequent this place again! read more

I'm a skeptic when it comes to 5-star rated places like this, especially when there are a lot of new reviewers. I'm here today to tell you that this was one case where the crowd was completely right. I didn't have an appointment but I was told that they could probably fit me in in about 30 minutes. I wasn't in a rush so I decided to wait, plus this would give me a chance to see some of the other people's haircuts. One thing that I noticed immediately is that the barbers take their time here. While it's not great for walk-ins, you really want this kind of attention from the person cutting your hair. When I got to my chair, Jim sat me down and got a really good understanding of what I was looking for. He then went to work, never touching my hair with clippers the entire time. They wrap up your haircut by shaping up your neckline with a straight-razor. The conversation was pleasant, and when he was done I was looking good. Damn good. Haircuts are $19 as of 9/2012 and worth every cent. You cannot match the level of service and professionalism at this price point. I would suggest making reservations though as they have a large and loyal client base. read more

I have been coming to Piedmont Barbers since they were in their first location. Consistently good haircuts. Chris cut my hair until he had to take some time off. A couple other guys cut it for a bit, but for the past few years Jim has been my go-to guy. Everybody who cuts there seems to know their stuff. They are very welcoming, are sure to figure out what you want, get your haircut done in a timely manner, and send you on your way. My hair length varies greatly, and they are able to handle it all, including good scissor cuts. The prices for a cut or buzz are very reasonable. I have always thought they were a little low. I would try to include some smart comment, but they are good at topping those, so I will leave it alone. read more

I came here for the first time after going to chain haircut shops for a long time. Compared to barbershops in Atlanta that might charge $25-$35 for a haircut, $20 at Piedmont Barbers is very reasonable. When i sat down in Jay's chair, I expected a good haircut after all the reviews I read on yelp. What I didn't expect was just how much effort Jay would put into cutting my hair. Jay did an excellent fade on my hair using multiple different clippers and sizes. He gave me a really clean and professional cut, and his attention to detail was obvious. It was well worth the $20. While I don't particularly care who cuts my hair or how they cut it as long as I look reasonably presentable thereafter (facial misfortune notwithstanding). Landed up here on a friendly recommendation. Walked in without an appointment and plonked right down. A half hour later I walked out with an amazing effing haircut. Just love it when a barber knows more or less what to do with minimum instructions and doesn't need you to be a god-damn expert in hair-care in order to tell him how to cut which strand of hair to what length and what angle and so on and so forth. Some of you out there may prefer a highly interactive experience with insight into your follicular well-being. Me, i just prefer plonking myself down on a comfy barber seat and with the least possible fuss walk out with a decent hair-cut at an affordable price (i.e anything less than I would pay for an entree at a moderately expensive restaurant), Piedmont barber exceeded all those expectations. Overall good spot, just don't let Brad cut your hair. Completely butchered mine: Zero attention to detail, rushed through my haircut in 20 mins, and worst of all he didn't seem to care. When he decided the haircut was finished, he spun me around for 3 seconds and was basically ushering me out of the chair before I could look in the mirror. Didn't notice until I got home that there was a 3-4 inch patch of hair sticking out that was visibly longer than the rest of my head and that the sides were totally uneven. I typically get a haircut from Chris, who does a great job, but have also gotten haircuts from probably five other individuals and have always been happy with them. Just moved to the area from Arizona and was seeking a new men's barbershop. Called ahead and asked if they take walk-ins. Rachel said yes they do if I can be here within 10 minutes. I live very close so that wasn't an issue. I walked in, the shop was pretty full, but Rachel was still able to seat me right away. Comfortable environment, and Rachel gave me a simple clean up cut.
