My mother had a Mid-century Hollywood Regency 2 piece couch, one part is straight and other part is curved. This couch was used only for guests. She bought it in 1967 and had it reupholstered 18 years ago with beige silk brocade with very faint pink highlights. This couch was for guests when they visited. She passed and left it for me, knowing that I would take care of it. Even though it is beautiful, it is a very light color and I am concerned about that because I am going to use it every day so I had a cover made for it. This is where Pieced on Earth, Janet and her staff come in. I chose a deep green suede material. The first time I saw just one pillow completed, I almost cried. It is absolutely beautiful. She personally designed the covered for the rest of the couch adding customized touches that made it look so close to upholstered that I just had to hug it, I feel all the love she put into it. I discussed the history and she understood my desire to honor my mother and take care of it. Her attention to detail is a testament to her craftsmanship. She wanted to make sure I am happy. And I tell you she made me so very happy. I just wanted a customized slip cover. She discussed piping details with me, that I didn't even think of and how she secured the bottom looks almost like she removed the existing fabric and covered the frame. It is beautiful. She even detailed the base at the of the back of the couch cover. The curved section was a little tricky, but she took her time and looked at it checking with me to make sure, it was to my liking, I also told her it was too low for me. Solution, she had me order some 6 "wooden legs that look simply fabulous, like they were there all along. As we discussed the cover, I got a good feeling, she understood how important this process was for me. She is so personable and talented. I trusted her with a couch that has a lot of history and she respected it, took care of it and covered it with love. She is just the best and I am so glad I met her. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL BUSINESS !! A friend of mine was looking for a good place to re-upholster some chairs. I had visited this business previously and thought she had a nice selection of fabrics, so I recommended it. My friend was driving all the way up to Vallejo from Berkeley, so I called a day in advance to inquire about her hours on Friday, July 21. The owner answered the phone and confirmed that she would be in the shop from 10am - 5pm the next day, July 21. Amazingly, when we arrived at 1:30pm, there was a sign on the door that she was closed but would return by 1:45pm. We waited until 2:10pm, but she did not return. We were tired of waiting and frustrated that that we had no idea if or when she would when return. While we were waiting outside, I called her phone and left a message that we had been waiting outside the shop to be able to have her upholster my friend's chairs, and left my phone number. While we were outside, another hopeful customer came to the shop looking for the owner but to no avail. The owner never called back. Twice after that I called again during business hours, hoping to make an appointment to have the chairs upholstered. She did not answer the phone, but her outgoing phone message says that she would return the call. Neither time did she bother to call back. So, I have to say that this business is totally flaky and profoundly unprofessional. Obviously the owner doesn't care if she has customers or not. It's too bad because we were hoping to support a woman owned business in Vallejo. My friend will take her hard earned money and her upholstery project elsewhere, to a more professional business. read more

I called this business regarding upholstering two large dining chairs with further intention of having 4 large and heavy parson style chairs also reupholstered at a later time. I was instructed by a woman (sorry, I dont remember her name) to text a photo to a 415 number, and "I'll get back to you" was what she said. That happened on Feb 21; today is March 6th and I haven't had a call back. If for whatever reason, they didn't want the business, a return call would still have been the courteous thing to do. "Don't have time", " job too small", "can do it later" - would have all been acceptable answers - but at least an answer. I've checked voice mail several times since then with no call back. read more

BUYER BEWARE! I brought in fabric in Feb 2021 and an old slipcover for Janet at Pieced on Earth to make a new chair and ottoman slipcover. I told her I needed by 4/1/21 when I was putting house on market. It didn't happen. When I later went to pick up fabric to go somewhere else she told me she'd be able to do before we moved out of State mid-June. I reluctantly agreed. Just before we moved, I called to make arrangements to pick up my new slip covers and got a VM greeting that said they were closed until after the date we moved. I left a message and asked her to mail the new slipcover, if made, or my old stuff to me in Boise. She NEVER called back or sent my items. After several messages and texts to Pieced on Earth during the summer, to no avail, I felt I had not option but to threaten small claims action if I did not receive my items by 10/15/21. On 10/17 and 10/18 I finally got my old stuff. Nothing new was made. After 8 months of having the old slipcover to use as a pattern and my new fabric, she made NOTHING. At the end an excuse was made, but nothing could justify ignoring a customer and simply not making what she was hired to do -- for so long. Extremely poor business decisions were made with no regard for customer service. If I were you, I would go elsewhere. You won't have to worry if you'll share my unfortunate experience and save yourself a lot of frustration. read more

I honestly cannot thank this company enough! I found their information from Facebook and made a call to get an Estimate. I have a sofa sectional (attached photos below) and have had this sofa for about 6-7 months. Because the sofa had a chase on one end, I could not find a coffee table to fit in the center because it was super narrow!! My husband and I searched for MONTHS to find a coffee table literally up until a few weeks ago when we decided there isn't anything we can find! We decided it was best to see if someone could just chop off the chase part of couch making in into a Solid chair. (After photo below) I sent in an email at the end of July, with exactly what I wanted with dimensions and photos etc. and awaited a call from them. After calling multiple companies with outrageous prices and some other companies saying "You're probably better off getting a new couch" we finally got the news from Janet & Summer that we've been waiting for!! Sure! It's $350, and you can bring it down and pick it up by the end of Aug. We loaded it up, brought it down right away, early Aug and she took a $50% deposit and I kid you not, she called me ONE DAY LATER and said "It's ready!!" This business was such a delight to work with. So professional, honest and really an overall pleasure. Thank you guys so so much. I can finally go buy a coffee table after not having one for 6 months and get rid of my hideous, tiny, temporary IKEA side table haha! First off, This is an amazing place. They do so much. I had a bathing suit that needed altering so went to Crown Tailors. They couldn't help me & sent me to Pieced On Earth where I discovered Janet. Such a help. Said no problem had someone that could handle the problem. And boy did she. Mysoung is an amazing person & did an amazing job. I was told it would be about a week or so & of course that would be fine. Really wanted it sooner but ok. Got a call from Janet 2 days later saying it was ready. And the cost was like $15.00. I would recommend this place to everyone needing alterations or also upholstery work. Great work, great prices. Thank you ladies. And on the way home I saw a beautiful rainbow. We had an odd tear in one of our couch cushions. They were able to repair the tear without even seeing where it was torn, and at an extremely reasonable price. At that time we talked about bringing down a recliner that had a few tears. While Janet repaired the tears she discovered one of the boards on the frame were broken and didn't have a brace. She repaired that and also went ahead and added a braced to the other side. She did such a beautiful job. Both ladies are very friendly, and show you what was done. For several years we had been living with the ghastly curtains that came with our house. Luckily when it came time to fulfill my dream of custom-made drapes a friend sent me to Pieced on Earth. First Janet walked me through choosing fabric and drapery and rod style, and tactfully set me straight when my ideas started to veer off the rails. I picked out a fabric, and when her supplier's price was much higher than a source I found, she graciously agreed that I should get the fabric myself to save me a lot of money. The draperies came out perfectly, were delivered on time, and her expert installer did a fabulous job of hanging them - a complex job, with three sets of drapes in one room, so everything had to line up. Custom work doesn't come cheap, but I felt the price was extremely fair, and the quality is so good they'll last forever (I hope!). Janet was patient and professional and a joy to work with. I'll be back when it's time to slipcover our sofa. read more
