Upon opening, we were greeted with a warm friendly welcome. The cashier informed us that Pie Ranch educates local schools, as they hold classes in the back barn. They provide a map of the farm for anyone interested in self-guided tours. They also sell duck eggs and fresh produce grown by local farmers. They also sell organic soaps and Pie Ranch brand tees and trucker hats. The pie I had was the mini strawberry rhoubarb. It was good, a little tart and sweet at the same time. I only wish they sold a scoop of vanilla ice cream and an option to heat up the pie. The area is warm though very close to the beaches. They have porto restrooms, it was gross so I avoided drinking water until the next stop. read more

Saw a sign for pie right off Hwy 1 between Año Nuevo and Pescadero, so obviously, we had to stop. The store is so charming, with a wooden barn structure and cute string lights. The pies are baked daily, but they go fast. They have several whole and personal size pies, but there weren't too many left by the time we got there, so we opted for the strawberry galettes. They're just the right size, and so flavorful. The store also has other knick knacks and trinkets for road trip keepsakes. The place has a cute atmosphere, and it makes for a perfect pit stop when you're driving down the coast. read more

I love love love everything that is in this little shop along highway 1. What a hidden gem that I am so glad my boyfriend and I were able to stop at. We bought a couple of the mini pies, to try different flavors, and we bought a large pumpkin pie. These are delicious and definitely a crowd pleaser. They are also affordable. I love driving down the coast and stopping here for a sweet treat. We have also bought brownies from them as well. Everything is delicious and fresh. Love this place! read more

We really liked the story behind this place, and so we passed up the other pie options on Highway one and headed there on our way to Costanoa. We bought a full size strawberry rhubarb pie and a small lemon blackberry pie, total cost was around $40 But we were happy to contribute and also excited to enjoy the pie. The pie was terrible! The crust was so hard and thick and the filing was pasty and not delicious at all! The lemon blackberry pie had one blackberry in it and the crust was rock hard. We showed up at 12:25 only to see multiple signs indicating that not only do they not have any pie, they also weren't going to open until 12:45. Hmm, is this how a business should be run? When we headed back up the coast in the afternoon, we decided to stop by Pie Ranch again. Again, I saw a sign that said there was no pie (no really!) but when we walked inside, there was pie. Whole pies were $25 and I didn't see any slices being sold. The chocolate chess pie also came in a mini-tin portion for $8 and since we were already there, we bought one to share. It basically a giant brownie, tasty but unnecessary. They also don't have real bathrooms. This was pretty disappointing. read more

We came here for a work team offsite. I can only say great things about the staff here - they were incredibly patient, welcoming and friendly even though we got a bit of a late start getting there and took the time to really educate us about where our food came from and answer any questions we had without making us feel dumb for asking. After the tour of the ranch (along which we met lots of people who stopped to tell us about their work) we got to cook a meal ourselves in the awesome outdoor kitchen. This was an unexpectedly fun experience and the food was delicious. I would absolutely recommend this place for an off-site and hope to visit the pie ranch again in the future! read more

I know it's called Pie Ranch but the real gem here are their chocolate cookies that look super dense and are in the shape of a small disc. They're actually extremely light, fluffy, and taste light ice cream. Like, exactly like soft-serve swirl ice cream but non-melty and perfect. When you come, just buy them out of all of those cookies. You won't regret it. I've been to Pie Ranch a few times and always love stopping in. It actually pains me to drive past and not stop but after my first visit and purchasing a bevy of pickled items in jars that looked beautiful but frankly, tasted terrible, it was about a year before we came back for those cookies. We did notice that they no longer carry the pickled veggies from that supplier any more and not offer a different brand that has a much nicer variety of pickled goods and a lot of new local-ish brands of various items like coffee, kombucha, and more- all of which we thoroughly enjoyed on our most recent trips. We definitely stocked up on those chocolate cookies that taste like ice cream and even got a mini pie that was delicious and made me realize that there's no place in my life for mini pies- I need the whole pie of the large size variety. We took a drive to Pie Ranch this week. The place looks awesome and when the pandemic is over I want to go back to tour the farm. I had high hopes for their pies. We ordered the mixed berry streusal pie and it was more crumbly topping then filling. I prefer a juicier filling. I haven't given up on them, I'll try a different pie next time. When someone thinks of "Pie Ranch" you think probably many options of pies and maybe some fruits or veggies since agriculture in the area. That's what my friends and I did on Sunday, and it was a complete waste of time. When we got there, they had a couple of mini pies that didn't look very fresh. Only two flavors: pumpkin and apple. They cost $8 each. Well, we drove all that way, so we ordered a couple of mini pies. The filling was good but the crust is really soft and sort of rubbery. Overall, not very good, not worth $8, not worth pulling off Highway 1, and certainly not worth a special trip. By the way, the farm aspect of Pie Ranch is also pretty lame. You can walk down a dirt road and see two cows in a barn. Why would anyone think that's fun? I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews on Yelp. It seems like a lot of people incorrectly assume that Pie Ranch is named for its pie... I went to the ranch after hearing about its wonderful contributions to the food movement in the area. It's named after the shape of the land it is on- a pie-slice shaped farm! Adorable. I did, however, try the pie! Personally, I loved the peach. My partner tried the lemon buttermilk and said it was creamy, lightly sweetened, and perfectly lemon-y. The crust on mine was crumbly in the best way, had a tiny hint of salt and delicious flavor. I'd stop by for their charm and treats any day! They had a selection of other goodies I would have loved to try, but we simply didn't have time. I'll be stopping by again sometime to try those dark chocolate sea salt cookies, though! read more

The person behind the counter was very friendly, but they don't serve slices of pie, which seems odd given the fact that they are the pie "ranch", which made me think pie in all forms would be available. We ended up getting an apricot pie, which was not very good and was expensive. Its obvious someone put some care into making the pie as the crust looked nice, but the filling was runny and under-sugared (I don't like pie sweet, but apricots need at least a little sugar to finish them out). The crust was nicely done on the top, but still rubbery, which is a culinary contradiction. The bottom crust was completely soggy and underdone. I feel bad giving some nice people in what looks to be a great organization only 2 stars, but in my book if you only serve pie and its in your business' first name AND if you charge $23/pie, you ought to serve damn good, no excuses pie. read more

Well, the old barn part is correct.. Coffee is from an old aluminum urn, you can only buy whole pies (starting at $23), or galettes ($6), fresh fruit and eggs also expensive. Like others I settled for a rhubarb galette, which was just okay - maybe too much lemon added to make up for small amount of rhubarb. Before reading other reviews here I was tempted to stop another day and buy a whole pie - but they don't sound too good, plus why would I want to drive up and down the coast baby-sitting a whole pie, trying not to crush it? Loved what they do, but the farm was lacking in organizational structure and there simply isn't much to see if you are just a passerby like us. Reading all the rave reviews of Pie Ranch, we make this place a must-stop for our hike to Ano Nuevo SP. While the location is great for our trip (within 5 minutes from the SP), we all walked out of this place disappointed. It was around 3:30pm by the time we got there, the 12 of us (6 kids and 6 adults) were starving. However, we couldn't finish the 3 whole pies (strawberry, summer berries, lemon butter). The strawberry pie was filled with jam and no fresh strawberries! Summer berries pie was passable, but a bit sour for the filling and the crust was...meh. As for the specialty lemon butter pie...I should've known by then that I shouldn't have high hope. Pie Ranch is a wonderful place. From the people that run the working farm to the overall mission to educate people on slow, natural foods - it earns its 5 stars. I've taken my family there to volunteer during harvest and danced the night away at one of their monthly barn dances -- you should definitely check this out. I was recently married at Pie Ranch after being referred by a friend. The entire process was very easy and the staff are very accommodating. The property itself is gorgeous, set on a hill on a piece of land shaped like pie that they actually separate and call (lower half and upper half). Very cute. There is a great outdoor kitchen, old barns, a few animals and lots of trees. The venue is perfect if you're looking for a great sized rustic barn or outdoor area to host an event. We felt that out wedding was perfect from start to finish and I would definitely recommend checking out Pie Ranch for a cool volunteer opportunity, community event, barn dance, educational experience or for your own private event. read more

Love this place when visiting the pescadero area! Their pies and baked goods are always such a little treat when exploring the coast. My boyfriend absolutely loves the lemon buttermilk pies. We never make it out of that place without licking the crumbs off the pie tin. I prefer the flourless brownies! They are heaven...a dense, delicious heaven.
