I ordered the brisket plate with collard greens and mac and cheese. The brisket itself had good flavor, but unfortunately, a noticeable portion of the half-pound serving was fat that was essentially inedible -- probably around an eighth of a pound. The sides were tasty, but the portions felt a little small. My wife ordered the two-meat platter with turkey and sausage, along with potato salad and coleslaw. The turkey was good, but the sausage was a little bland. The surprise highlight of the meal was actually the jalapeño poppers we ordered to start. They were excellent and probably my favorite thing we had. Overall, it was a good experience with a nice atmosphere, good service, and some solid food. There were a few misses, but nothing that would keep us from coming back. I'd likely return, although I'd probably try something different next time.

The restaurant is all about honoring veterans, and pictures/patches on the walls are all donated from local veterans (or their families). Any first responder or veteran gets a discount or treat! The NC Style pulled pork sandwich is a pulled pork sandwich with Cole slaw on top. This is my go-to, especially because the sweetness of the Cole slaw blends perfectly with the pulled pork and bbq sauce (that I put on it). Plus, it seems like a great deal because you're essentially getting a "side" with the sandwich. The brisket comes moist (more fatty) or lean (less fatty) depending on what you prefer. Either one is super juicy and delicious. No matter what time of year, the cobbler is amazing. They change cobbler flavors but ALL of them are delightful.

We even got to chat with Eddie the Pitmaster for a couple of minutes, he is the real deal. I love BBQ and to me, there is no such thing as bad BBQ. That said, this was super good. I tried their Beef Brisket Platter and part of their The Pig Mac. With Manny the humanoid pig looking on, we dove in. The brisket was flavorful, no sauce needed. There was plenty of fat and plenty of slices. For my two sides I tried their coleslaw, which was fine, and their cucumber salad. I'm a big flavor guy and love cucumber slices soaked in vinegar. After we had ordered our food another customer stopped by our table and praised their The Pig Mac so much, we added it to our order. What a great recommendation. It is a sandwich with a cheesy patty of mac n' cheese, pulled pork on the side. We even got another side and tried their potato salad made with both white and sweet potatoes. I liked the thinking outside the box potato salad. The pulled pork, like the brisket, stood very well on its own without sauce. The pork topping the cheesy patty just worked so well. We will be back.

We were sitting around talking about something sweet. We all had a sweet tooth and was hungry at…read morethe same time. Then somebody brought up sweet potato pie. Why did they say that? Now normally on August you can't really find a good sweet potato pie but low and behold my people told me about this place. I am not from Sarasota so I didn't know the gem they had down the road. Literally. So what did we do? Call them. How many lies do you have? I have three left. Hold them I'm on my way. Now once my friend for there she decided to buy some barbecue too. So we could snack but the main objective today was pie. She scooped up some brisket sandwiches and some ribs too. When she walked in the house and gave me my own individual pie I'm thinking it's just a slice. Nope it's an individual deep dish pie for one person. Did I say deep dish? Oh yes God! The crust was not store bought. It had a heavy presence of butter, it was flaky and it was also slight sweet. I could have ate the pie crust all by itself. The taste omg just the right texture. It was heavy, not loose. Sweet but not overpowering the sweet potato. Just the right amount of butter, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Jesus my friend can't never come visit Atlanta without bringing me at least two of these pies. I couldn't eat it all at one time either. So not sleep on these pies. Oh and there were no strings either. The barbecue was dry rub and some of the best I have ever had. I wish I had more of it but again it was a snack and not the focus. Best believe I will have me another pie.
