I've gone to Pictures Plus three times and had an excellent experience each time. Tristan and Vance (but especially Tristan) showed great interest in my pieces and handled them with the utmost care. They provided excellent consultation when advising on the color of the mat and type of frame and overall layout of the pieces. I never felt pressured to go one way or another. I believe Tristan has great taste overall, understands how not to overshadow a piece, and handles his pieces with care. All of my pieces had a clear front that was not always obvious if you don't read Japanese. The team never made a mistake, demonstrating their attention to detail. In one case there was a piece of dust behind the glass and they proactively reframed the piece without me having to return it. For my most recent project, I had two custom art pieces from Japan, and was nervous to let go of them for framing. The team finished the frames faster than expected and the quality was excellent, quelling my concerns. Below are the final versions of my pieces: - a sumo line up on washi paper - a tenugui - a custom shibori on silk I'll add that it's not cheap to get custom framing and museum no glare glass (add cost, but such a benefit), but if you can make the investment and you don't think you'll re-frame the pieces, it's well worth it. I look at these pieces every day and appreciate the care Picture Plus took into honoring the artist and my home. read more

This review is late, but I wanted to rave about my experience at Pictures Plus. Tristan was the one who helped me and my friend pick out matting and framing for each of our art pieces. Tristan really took his time, giving us plenty of options per piece, showing us how the mat and framing would look together, letting us pick and choose at our leisure. He never rushed us or made us feel like we were wasting his time. He gave us some interesting options and combinations that really helped the art we bought really stand out. The mat and frame complement the art perfectly, showcasing the art and never overshadowing it. The quality is excellent. I love looking at my art pieces when I'm in my office, and my friend loves looking at her art when she gets home everyday. One other awesome thing - I got a call from Pictures Plus when my art was about ready to get picked up. They said there was some minor damage to the matting, and they were very apologetic. They fixed it, no charge. To be honest, I probably wouldn't have noticed, but it really highlighted the quality control and standard to which they hold their framing. I also appreciated that they called me and let me know instead of trying to pass the art off to me without letting me know about the damage. Thank you to Vance Higa for helping us on a very busy Saturday morning with framing of our son's college diploma. Although we were initially told it would take 1-2 weeks, we received the finished product the following Thursday. While it cost more than anticipated (we chose the more expensive glass) we are very happy with the result. So, this Christmas I got inspired to frame a nice photo for my wife and went to Kahala Mall with just my phone. Tristan was very helpful in helping me make my decisions. I was done in like 5 minutes. The original options I chose came out to like $340, which was way too much. So, Tristan helped me tone down my options to bring my cost down to $240. They called me when it was completed just as scheduled and the picture came out fantastic. Couldn't be happier, except I had no idea that having an 8"X10" photograph framed could cost this much. About two weeks, my husband and I got married in Kailua. Prior to arriving for our wedding, I was putting together last minute details for our special day one of those details was our welcome sign and seating chart. I was light weight freaking out because 1) I didn't know how I was going to print it out and 2) if I printed it out in California (which where we are from) how the heck am I going to transport it to Oahu. I put a request on yelp and Tristan responded immediately. Not only was Tristan super helpful, but when I was having troubling placing my order online I contacted Tristan and he was able to put my order through. I am so grateful for Tristan's' help! I called the store when I needed to frame a BIG painting and spoke to the manager Tristan. Super friendly guy and made me feel welcome so I visited a week later with my artwork. The Kahala store is well lit and very clean so you feel confident about leaving your work to professionals. I was able to bring it in to the store and they made a customized box and shipped it to our new home in Oregon for I believe less than $200 (and the quote was actually LESS than what they had quoted me over the phone)! Can I just say, Ian from Pictures Plus is amazing! Extremely professional and attentive. I was on the search for a local company that does large format prints with a quick turn over time. I've called a lot of places gathering quotes and Pictures Plus won the battle. It was extremely easy for me to order my prints. All I had to do was go onto their website and upload my files. I ordered two 30x40 prints on canvas. Be aware, their hours are limited with Covid. They're only open from Thursday to Saturday (I think) from 11am to 6pm. I had placed my order on a Monday which got me worried thinking that, with the Covid hours, my prints wouldn't be done till next week or longer. I called on Thursday when they opened and the associate on the phone, Ian, told me that they haven't received my order yet . Ian let me know that they've been extremely busy and he would contact me later in the day with an update. Sure enough HE DID! This might seem like something so simple, but a lot of establishments always say they're gonna call you back and then they don't. He called to let me know that my order would arrive the following day! WTF that was fast! I'm super stoked. If you're comparing custom framing to prices on Amazon, yes, please, go somewhere else. But if you're looking for a quality, well-built frame made of real materials, absolutely come here. In total, we've purchased five 11x14 frames from here, two custom-made, and three from the ready-made section. Interestingly, they only do custom framing, and use the remnants of custom jobs to make the frames in their ready-made section. Less waste and more money for the business. I like it. As for the frames themselves, I love them. We have four bamboo wood and one koa wood and they're all beautiful to look at, but don't dominate the artwork. I think the thing that surprised me most is that the frames are all made locally, and may are made with local materials, like koa wood. The woman who sold us our frames -- her name unfortunately escapes me at the moment -- went to school with the local artist whose work we were having framed, so she gave us a friends and family discount for supporting her friend. Nice! Local place with local craftsmen, I'll come back here if I need anything else framed. read more

Pictures Plus is our go to place to get our frames done for our art or photos. We first went to them for our wedding to get our 1000 cranes mounted and our engagement photo. They did a really nice job on framing both of those pieces. The crane frame was especially nice because the background is black and we got museum glass. Museum glass is a higher quality of glass because it blocks UV rays and is reflective. Our cranes in that frame really stands out and people who come over always make comments about the image. On our recent trip to Pictures Plus we framed some posters, our Japanese kanji name, and some artwork. Originally these pieces were all at my husband's childhood home and they got sent to us. The frames on each of the pieces were pretty old and dated so we decided to take it to Pictures Plus to get it redone. For one of the pieces my husband wanted to keep the frame so we asked the salesgirl to have them return the frame to us after it got replaced with the new one. All of the pieces were done in a week and they really looked great. We added new mats and used to advice from our salesperson to help us get the best look for the pieces. The only bad thing was that they didn't return the frame that we wanted. They said that they threw it out and they felt bad so they emailed us a coupon toward our next purchase. Pictures Plus is a good place to go to get your framing done. They have a great turn around time and the sales people know what they're talking about. They'll help you decide what you can do with your frame. Prices, however, can be rather expensive. read more

About a month ago I went to Pictures Plus with an idea of making a collage out of pictures I'd collected over the years. Tristan was very helpful and suggested I purchase the board from them and arrange the pictures myself. Looking at the pictures I brought with me, he did a "guesstimate" of what size board I'd need and also suggested that I get the acid-free board. Within a week I had the board and started playing around with the arrangement. I did a "rough draft" and took pictures of what I had at that point. A week later I decided to start on the real deal. It took me several hours to arrange/rearrange the pictures to my satisfaction BEFORE "gluing" everything in place. Tristan had suggested using double-sided tape (which I did). I took it in, and Tristan helped me with selecting the mats, frame, and glass. He said it would take about a week. Today I went in to pick up the finished piece, and I am very pleased with the final product. read more

They will not frame (glass & mat) for you if you bring in your own frame , nor evidently, order what is not in stock. I had, in the past brought in my own frames in a set and had then glassed, matted and sealed here but the last time I was told they no longer work with outside frames. This too was after I inquired if I could get the desired frame style through them and told they wouldn't order it and what they had in stock was it. This is really strange to me as I would think they are losing significant business here. There is a huge market in using antique or set frames in art, and being an easy way to make significant money.... Pretty restricted and unhelpful for a 'custom' frame shop. read more
