I don't normally send out yelp reviews for places I've eaten but the meal I had with my boyfriend last night changed that. We had a 6:30pm reservation. When we arrived our table wasn't quite ready. We had to wait a bit, but we were well informed and attended to the entire time. Our waitress, Katie, was very sweet and attentive. Now the food is what I'm doing this review for. I have been to PICO before but the food we had last night was PHENOMENAL. Chips and guacamole to start. I had the Carnes Ahumadas and my boyfriend had the burrito. Everything was so perfectly portioned and seasoned. My boyfriend loved his margarita so much he had two. Come try PICO. I already can't wait to have my next meal here again!!! read more

Was visiting my sister in Rockaway NY and her friend suggested Pico for Sunday brunch. We made a reservation for 1:30 and were seated promptly by Chelsea the hostess, who has the most beautiful red hair and smile. Katie our waitress was very friendly and took our drink order while we decided what to order. We ordered margaritas which were great! Shared a large homemade guacamole with chips again delicious! We were saving room for our meal so there was plenty to box up and take home for later. Main courses: My sister had the Panko Crusted French Toast - Caramelized Bananas, Fresh Whipped Cream, Maple Syrup. The portion was large and the taste was to die for. I had the BREAKFAST BURRITO - scrambled Eggs, Smoked Bacon, Guacamole, Cheddar. Texmati Rice, Spicy Black Beans. I was only able to finish half of it, guess I over indulged on that guacamole, but the portion again was large and I was very happy to reheat it the next day and enjoy it again. Came here twice first time was pretty cool and all , your average Mexican restaurant nothing really special not many vegan or vegetarian options which is okay ( it's expected) but that's not the reason for the low rating . Second time my and boyfriend came here , recently, we had one spoon with old avocado dried and we have not ordered yet I awkwardly smiled at the server when they came back he apologized and gave a none scratched fork which meant it's really new and hasn't been reused a lot . Couple minutes later our food arrive and a mug I asked for hot water had OLD PINK LIPSTICK on it . And my boyfriend felt so sick after looking at it ..... sooo ... we're not coming back because of the DISHWASHER not the restaurant. That was pretty traumatizing. Pico offers contemporary Mexican food in the Rockaway beach area. The feeling is a little fancy but you can still sit down in your swim trunks and a t-shirt and not feel out of place. The name of the game here is appetizers. We had the elote and the nachos and they we're both very good. For the nachos the chips are made in house which I liked alot and they offer a vegetarian version with black beans that was excellent for my fiancee who doesn't eat meat. It's a nice large plate so it's good for sharing. The elote here is grilled corn on the cob coated in a chili powder, shredded cheese, and drizzled with spicy mayo. The cheese looked like parmesan but I could be wrong. A single order can be split to serve two but if you have more than that order some more servings. The entrees we're good but I have to say I enjoyed the apps quit a bit more. I had the shrimp taco dinner and my fiancee had the vegetarian LA burrito. The tacos came on corn tortillas, topped with seasoned shrimp, pico de gallo, guacamole, and drizzled with cream. You get three with a dinner order and a side of rice, beans and slaw comes with it. The burrito came grilled stuffed with black beans cheese and sauteed veggies. On the side was pico, guac, rice and beans. The portion size for the burrito was generous and along with the sides was a pretty large plate. We saw there was a yelp check in for half off desert so we split an order of bread pudding with ice cream. This was also pretty good and a nice cap to the meal. read more

I went to this restaurant two summers ago and from what I remember I had a good experience. I visited again this summer and unfortunately this experience was far than memorable. Upon entering there were no hosts and after standing in the front for a while without any direction a young woman approached us. We said we wanted a table for two. She proceeded to say the restaurant had reservations and we could sit in a middle communal table or at the bar. Taking a look around most of the booth tables and the tables in the back were empty so I'm not sure how much truth there was to what she said. Sure, we sat in the middle communal table. We were given menus to look at. The menu sounded appetizing. There were several waiters from what it seemed walking around and yet it took a longer than usual time to get some water. When we finally got water from one waiter, he walked away so fast we could not give him our order, even though we were ready. Another waiter then came, and said he would be taking our orders. He wrote our orders down on a notepad and then repeated our food orders back to us. This I appreciate, as I used to wait on tables in college and what better way to ensure you got the order down correctly. Strangely the waiter made fleeting eye contact and seemed a little under the influence. But it was a hot afternoon, maybe he was dealing with something else to seem so disheveled. Well I went to the bathroom, when I came back my partner shared we were served an appetizer and it wasn't what we ordered so he had sent it back to the kitchen. That was strange to me seeing as the waiter wrote down the order and even repeated it but alas we shrugged it off. We noticed other guests around us getting their food brought out, getting their food orders promptly taken and even having the waiters check up on them. Our waiter was missing in action for a while until he approached us and said the kitchen did not process our order, and he would have to submit it again and then he followed to ask us to restate what we ordered. We decided to ask for the check at this time for the incorrect guacamole that was finally brought correctly soon after. I was extremely confused with the simple fact of blaming the kitchen for not processing an order that I observed you writing down in your notepad. So the lack of communication and/or organization between the waiter, his notepad and the kitchen still doesn't make sense. The waiter was not apologetic nor seemed phased by his lack of customer service. We felt rather marginalized and after looking around I realized we were the only Hispanic guests in the restaurant. It is 2019, and if our race was the underlining reason for this ordeal, it is quite sad. After this terrible dining experience my partner and I will not be returning to the restaurant. We have already spoken to our friends and family to avoid this restaurant after having a beach day in Rockaway. read more

This place was great. we went here after some fun in the sun at Jabob Riis Beach, and it was a great choice. For starters, free parking on the weekend! WINNING. Also once we walked in we were asked if we had a reservation. we did not. We only waited about 10 minutes to be seated at a table in the back. We were surprised, because the restaurant was packed. We were a group of 4, to start we had the small chips and guac, and 10 wings. "small"--they came out with two cups of chips and enough guac.. We were in love. The chips had this cheesy taste which was great. The wings were good! and the sauce, honey chipotle something! --AMAZING!. Next we had the entrees. My partner had a burger with all the fixings. He said it was a great burger and fries. I had the chicken enchilada, and my friend had the crab one.. they were both good. But they were really cold.. I was not sure if that is how they come, or they just gave us cold food. We still ate it, because we were hungry.... but for the next time.. PLEASE COME HOT. My other friend had the chicken torta. She said she did not like it, the meat tasted funny, and it was cold. So again, not sure if that is how it is supposed to be served, or someone messed up in the kitchen. Overall. Food was served cold even though we were the first people in to have brunch. Coffee was cold too!! No explanation for a restaurant that just opened for brunch. One dinner we went back . There were two tables with couples like us. In the center was a large party of 14. The waitstaff concentrated on the large party. Our dinner arrived cold. So did the other two tables. Complaining did nothing. Even the drink had melted ice. The bill was over $100!! I complained paid for about half of my check after sending back a cold hard pork belly with half done black beans. The appetizers never came. But the party in the middle was well served. I am a chef and would never recommend this place. I've never been back!! read more

Definitely the best restaurant in Belle Harbor/Rockaway Beach area. Had some issues with online ordering but it was resolved pretty easily. I had the crab enchiladas and was skeptical of what they would taste like. Happy to report they were absolutely delicious! Though beware, they're average sized so if you're extra hungry you may want to add other things to your order. I Ordered brisket tacos as well which were maybe the best tacos I've ever had. Great experience at Pico! Came for an early dinner on Thursday evening and the place we packed - glad we made a reservation. We ordered the guacamole with lump crabmeat to start - so good! I had the special "angry shrimp tacos" and they were awesome. The three tacos had a really nice crunch which tasted great with the sweeter slaw on top. My family also enjoyed the veggie tacos, the burrito, and the Cesar salad. I didn't have any of the bread pudding dessert, but was told it was incredible as well. We were told that our order would come in "30 to 40 minutes," but in fact we got food after waiting for over an hour -- and this was only after phoning Pico in the middle to ask for an update. Strike one. The tastes are all wrong. We got a black bean soup, two breakfast burritos, a shrimp taco and maybe some other stuff. The salsas were borderline disgusting. The burrito that I ate was one of the worst in memory. There were no high points. Strike two, and that's a big strike two. The food wasn't especially cheap. Strike three. I love when you just stumble across a gem like this and your expectations are blown away... I haven't had any of the big entrees yet because the tacos and small plates are just so good. The nachos (get brisket on them) are quite possibly the best I've ever had. I probably eat Mexican food like 3 times a week. I rarely get frozen margaritas, because they are usually awful--they are either too sweet or too tart, the tequila sucks, the mix is cheap etc. But it was a hot day so I tried one here, and it was THE best I've ever had....by a wide margin, in fact. Nothing comes close. I inquired and learned that the mix they use is made in house and they also use blue agave for it. Awesome. I was getting brain freezes because I wanted to crush them so fast. LOL at the reviewer who claimed food poisoning from Pico. One trip here and you will see that is highly unlikely. This restaurant is super clean and everything is fresh as hell and made very thoughtfully. This place seriously rocks. Awesome spot to hit after a day at the beach. Three of us came to PICO on a Thursday night on a whim. I've been here before, but for the two other people I was with, it was their first time. We got seated right away and the hostess was really nice. The vibe in there is a really cute casual Mexican vibe with hanging lights and cozy booths and a spacious dinning room in the back. The cocktails are AMAZING. I had a new cocktail that they started making, I don't remember the name, but it was a frozen drink--delicioussss!! We ordered chips and guacamole and the corn we an appetizer. The guac was great, tasted so fresh, I just didn't like how they kept such big chunks of avocado in it. The corn was excellent, they put some type of spices on it--out of this world! For my entree I got the steak tacos that were a special for the night. The tacos came with rice, beans, and cole slaw on the side. They tasted really good, and was a different choice than the usually burrito I get when I go out for Mexican. Nice little Mexican joint on 129th at RB. Honestly, I want to give this place a 4 but it just seems like something is missing. The restaurant is cute, lots of seating, friendly service, the menu is clear and well written and they serve a good portion of food. But the menu just seems limited to me and I feel like a lot of the items were repeat. While portions are a good size, its a little pricey for Mexican food, it seems kinda fusion-y which is fine but not all that flavorful. I tried the shrimp emapanadas, and they were alright. I was not a fan od the mango cooli and the shrimp bits were kinda small, the flaky pastry didn't do it for me but it was edible. I've also had a margarita, which was generous in it's portions. Recently, I went and had a LA veggie burrito. The burrito itself was good on the inside, they were a bit skimpy with the filling, and the tortilla was abdudant. The black beans and rice was yummy, no complaints there. I was not a fan of the guacamole whatsoever, seemed bland. Overall, I would probably go back again just because I would like to try other items. The menu is very limited for non-meat eaters. My family and I went to Pico yesterday for lunch. We read the buzz for this place and we all left totally agreeing - this place is awesome. Started out with tortilla chips with delicious salsa and amazing guacamole. I love guacamole and this was among the best. Delicious, with chunks of fresh avocado and the perfect amount of cilantro. We also chose a nacho order for a starter with retried beans, cheese and salsa. Excellent, and was enough for 6 to share with the tortilla and salsa/guacamole. The drinks were all tasty - from the Bloody Mary's to the frozen margaritas and sodas. Water was served and replenished throughout the meal. For mains, we ordered from the brunch and regular menu. I had the L.A. Burrito with the brisket. The dish includes a nice portion of rice, black beans, salsa and guacamole. The burrito was delicious and everything on the plate was cooked and seasoned very nicely. Other orders at my table included the burrito with carnitas, the hash with brisket, breakfast burrito, and burgers, one of which came from the brunch menu with an egg. No one was disappointed. For dessert, we ordered two of the bread puddings and a tres leches. The bread pudding was made with croissants which made it rich and buttery, and topped with a scoop of iced cream. The tres leches was delicious and moist. The 6 of us shared these and enjoyed every bite. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. The atmosphere was very relaxed and was very well decorated. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer, and helped us decide on some of our choices and gave great descriptions of the drinks. The bar staff also came by and explained why certain drinks were served in the manner they were bottled, and also asked us how we were enjoying our meal. Great group of people. The food is not bad for the neighborhood -- we got a bunch of tacos, shrimp empanadas, rice, black beans. Nothing outstanding and nothing to complain about in terms of the food. The service left something to be desired though, as the waitress we had was very cool. She said all the right words but her face and tone really gave us a chill. I used to love this place. However, it has been very downhill since they first opened up. Certain foods have lost its flavor, such as different perhaps cheaper recipes. They have become less customer friendly. I have been eating and drinking here on many occasions and never received a buy back or any respect as a frequent customer. That's fine, but when I call ahead of time and ask for a delivery at a specific time and it's way, and I mean way off target, and I express my dissatisfaction, you get upset with me? 4.5 stars... My wife and I came here this past weekend and were very happy with our choice. Pico is only a couple blocks from the beach and is far enough down on the island where the beach isn't nearly as packed as some of the other areas. The restaurant is on a stretch with many other businesses so it's almost like a small cute little mini town. The restaurant has a great layout and modern decor with a large bar and booths in the front and a decent sized dining room in the back. Prices are a tad high for the area in my opinion but are on par with the quality for what you're getting. We each got one of their special cocktails based on their frozen margaritas ($9 ea) and loved them. The guacamole and chips ($8) was amazing, the chips were made in-house and had great seasoning on them and the guac was was super creamy and full of flavor. For an entree I got the burrito with brisket ($13) which comes with a side of rice and beans as well as some pico del gallo and guac. The burrito was super simple with just the meat, refried beans, and cheese but the meat was perfectly tender and flavorful and the tortilla was perfectly grilled where you had a little crispness on two sides. The portion size was perfect to completely fill me up. What they do with their black beans is pretty unique as I'm pretty sure I tasted curry, either way they were full of flavor and nor nearly as boring as beans typically come with dishes like this. The rice was a tad dry but otherwise had great flavor as well. My wife had three types of the tacos and was equally happy with her dish. Next time we're in the area there's no doubt we'll be back here for round 2. read more

So my bff took me to this place for dinner because we loveeeeee Mexican food. The ambiance reminded me of a tavern, very homey and comfy with lots of Mexican accents.
