The absolute best meal we have had eating out in a long time. Every dish we tried had excellent presentation, unique ingredients and wonderful flavors. This was one of those meals where every bite was savored. My Little Gem Salad with leafy greens and a light vinaigrette was "refreshing ". Have never heard of a compressed green apple, but it was awesome along with the candied pecans. My wife had the grilled cauliflower with dates that she likewise raved about. She enjoyed the tender duck breast with black rice, beets and edible flowers for her entrée . I the Short Ribs with Yukon risotto. Portions were perfect to allow room for the delicious chocolate chip cookies and homemade ice cream which we enjoyed with an expresso and cappuccino. The only thing less than exquisite was our selection of a Lumen Grenache, no where near the quality of the Grenache down the street at Casa Dumetz winery. Will and Kali have taken the General Store and made it a restaurant to be proud of, the decor, the vibe, the spaciousness they even have hip community tables. The wine list is fresh and eccentric, local and European. (Will is a winemaker and co-owner of Lumen Wines) and the chef Drew Terp, formerly of Mattei's Tavern is a pedigreed hero. His relationship to the food he prepares is nothing short of art. Did I mention the excellence in every bit of goodness that is there? The service is casual and friendly, but on it. The Scallops are out of this world, the Halibut brought tears to my eyes it was the most perfectly prepared and cooked piece of fish I've ever had - really. My husband and I came here for our second time. Loved our first visit but the second was even better. The manager, (a brunette woman) was so welcoming and helpful. She was training a new gentleman who was just as great but during training the manager was very attentive which I appreciated. The food was also above expectation. Fantastic find in little, sleepy one-horse-town Los Alamos. definitely the high light of our visit. We rolled into town early evening on a Wednesday and there were two restaurant options, one of which was Pico. Note to those traveling to this nether region: places tend to be open Thursday through Sunday/Monday with Tuesday's and Wednesdays lights off. Just sayin'...plan well. Place had a cool vibe and a great energy and we were definitely not the only people there. This is the kind of restaurant if you were staying in Los Olivos or in Solvang you would definitely want to drive there and have dinner. It's only like 10 minutes from those towns... Anywho, Started off with the Praline Bacon, Drunken Goat cheese and the grilled cauliflower. Sounds like a lot for two people, but thankfully portions are appropriately sized so as to leave room to try many goodies! I love to be able to taste a little of everything! All of the above were just as yumdiddlylicious as fellow Yelpers have previously described. Just read their reviews. I'm sure they're entertaining. Onto the entree....ordered the Grilled Pork Secreto with black eyed peas and hush puppies and it was delicious! We were so excited to love this place, especially when they told us the new chef was from the renowned Blue Hill (which gave us one of the best meals of our lifetimes). I think perhaps they are still getting their sea legs with the new menu and format as food and service left much to be desired for the hefty price tag. Everyone was kind, and the apps we had were yummy (carrot salad was the table fave), but service was uneven and the halibut was seriously under-seasoned and dry, which was quite upsetting at $42 each (by far the cheapest protein offering btw)! It's also the only thing on the plate at that price. It should be star quality. We love this area and were excited to have a blowout meal. Bummer :/ One positive-- as a parent it's always nice to see when restaurants are cool and accommodating with parents with young kids, which they were. Edited to add that we felt surprised by the new menu and setup, as it's not what we had expected when booking the reservation a few weeks back. When you're visiting the Central Coast, make sure you stop in to enjoy the delicious food Chef Cameron and his team are creating at Pico! From the moment you walk through the doors of the old Los Alamos General Store, the friendly staff is there to welcome you and ensure that you will have a wonderful dining experience. Both the indoor dining area and patio are stunning! For our meal, we shared the linguini, whole branzino(apparently some of the unsatisfied customers were unaware that a whole fish has bones and skin on it?), steak frites and the kale salad. Pico's wine list is exceptional and their cocktails are quite delicious too. Service throughout our entire meal was great, and both the manager and Chef Cameron stopped by to ask how we were enjoying our meal. As I started to write this review, I noticed a couple of the more recent reviews that were written, and it appears that some guests have a hard time embracing change. I'm sure the former chef did a great job, but if his "enthusiastic regulars" are unhappy with the current menu, they have plenty of other dining options in the area. However, it is unfair for them to express their biased opinions, and potentially ruin a wonderful dining experience like we had for future customers because the current chef doesn't prepare things exactly like their favorite former "master" chef used to. Also, I could not help but comment on the one remark that was made comparing Chef Cameron to a Denny's line cook. First off, shame on that customer for insinuating that the teams at the fine establishment of Denny's do not possess the culinary skills to properly cook a steak. Secondly, in order for this person to accurately make that comment, this implies that person has dined at Denny's and ordered a steak there too. If so, does that mean they also wrote a 1-star review for Denny's complaining about their "gristly" steak? read more

As I sat there, I was taken back to a time when I was in Italy, eating at a lovely restaurant on the island of Capri. I had the salmon which was perfectly cooked and flavorful. I love Pico! The gravitational pull of Los Alamos as a foodie destinations is strong, and Pico has much to do with it. The old General store space has been thoughtfully rehabbed, and it is stunning. The food is delightful. Chef Drew makes all of his sauces and other foodstuffs (including bacon!) in-house, and that attention to detail shines through. The place is very pretty, but not sold on the food, liquor or prices. Been there twice lately and even told friends, but they weren't impressed either. Drinks are way too expensive and aren't very good. They don't have your normal type liquor. It's just very different if you like that sort of thing. My husband and I love Pico! Since moving to the area five months ago we have dined here many times. The setting is very nice and all of the staff are great! The food is excellent. One of my favorite dishes is the mushroom salad, but everything we have tried is very good. Make sure to save room for the house made ice cream and fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookies for dessert. My only criticism is that the menu is quite small and never changes very much. This was the worst service I have ever received at a restaurant. Our waitress came and took my boyfriend's drink order and was going to bring a taste of wine for me to try. A food runner came and brought my taste of wine. We waited twenty minutes before another food runner came and took my drink order. My drink came out before my boyfriend's did, which at that point had been thirty five minutes from the time he ordered his drink. From the first time our waitress came to our table, to the next time we saw her, it had been forty five minutes. We had tried to previously put in our food order with another wait staff member, but they said they would let our waitress know. After those forty five minutes of not seeing our waitress, she finally comes to take our food order, but tells us that the only things available would be the pasta or burger. I understand that the kitchen can run out of food, but when your table is neglected for as long as it was, it's frustrating to think that we could have received the food items we wanted if our server had paid any attention to our table. It's very disappointed because what little food we did have was very good, but the lack of service was extremely disappointing. The thing that was most irritating was, when we were trying to pay, we looked down from the upper dining area to see our waitress sitting at a table with guests just chatting. It's one thing to forget about a table briefly, but we were completely ignored all evening. Very bummed by this experience. Will not be coming back here. read more
