The sauce needs more herbs and spices. The chicken was tough and dry. The calzone was very good with just the right amount of cheese. Sarah was a great waitress. This was her first day and she was a terrific waitress.

I think this restaurant has an identity crisis. Why name it "PICNIC" pizza? As you walk in you see decor for an Italian restaurant and paper placemat with a map of Italy. Menu has several pasta Italian style dishes. However the pizza is AMERICAN style, not made like they do in Italy. Pizza was good, not great, and in a small town like Albany, maybe this is the best pizza you can get?

Having gone to Italy has ruined me on Italian food in the United States. For two weeks after returning nothing tasted good. I could taste the freezer burn on the meatballs at Olive Garden. Nothing "Italian" tasted like the food in Italy. In the nine years since, I have again grown accustomed to American cuisine including the Italian version. Olive Garden has become once again an acceptable substitute. I imagine when you have limited food quality choices, the best available becomes the best period. Then someone comes along and gives you the real thing and shatters your world. That's what happened when my wife and I came to Picnic Pizza. We started off with fried Calamari and it was the perfect mix of slice rings of the squid mantle and small whole squids. The key to good calamari is timing when cooking, and these were well timed; not too tough, not too soft, but just right. Add a little red pepper to the homemade marinara and you're in for a real treat. Then we had Fettuccine Milano. This dish is a mixture of fettuccine, homemade Alfredo sauce, ham, peas, and mushrooms. The moment I tasted it I was taken instantly back to the first moment I tasted Spaghetti Carbonara at a small restaurant in the shadow of the Pantheon in Rome. The sauce was thick but not overly thick, and compared to most American restaurants serving what they call Italian food it wasn't in the same ballpark. To steal a quote from Pulp Fiction, "it isn't even the same... sport!". This sauce was to die for. Now, mind you I stared my review before my wife ordered the tiramisu for dessert. I was already in culinary heaven. But then I put a fork full of this exquisite confection into my mouth and my mind froze. I could hardly chew it was so good! Normally I eat my food like a marine rushing off to battle, but the tiramisu was so well textured, so perfectly chilled, and such an explosion of deliciousness I had to eat slow so I could process what my senses were telling me. Even after swallowing it I had to pause between bites because the flavor lingered teasing my taste buds and olfactory senses. To top it all off the bill didn't break the bank. The service was great, the owner's wife even came out to greet us, it was all so perfect. From the outside, it doesn't look like much as its in a strip mall next to the main mall. The sign is a little faded, the inside is plain looking, and the music on the radio was country. There is nothing wrong with any of that, but they certainly don't have a facade screaming "great Italian food here!" Even the name implies it's just another pizza place, but if anyplace ever had reason for you to say "never judge a book by its cover" this is the place! In summary, if you want to eat in Italian looking surroundings with food that has Italian names go to Olive Garden. But if you want the best homemade authentic Italian food west of the boot and south of the Mason/Dixon line come to Picnic Pizza!

This place was a perfect fit for a quick bite to eat in this part of town. We ordered a supreme pizza to share among three adults, and a small children's cheese pizza. Our supreme wasn't anything to write home about, contained canned black olives (too many for me) and canned mushrooms. The pizza wasn't greasy, but seemed pre-made and reheated for our meal. Quite honestly a bite fromthe children's cheese pan pizza was the best part of the meal. We also ordered side salads that were normal in size, fresh as expected, and tailored to our needs. All in all, I think id rather just go to mellow mushroom for something a little fresher and more options.

    Interior. Nice environment.

We got a cheese calzone & small cheese pizza. Both were delicious. We got them to go. The hostess was very nice.

There were a couple of people at the bar, others leaving, and one other seated party. So it wasn't packed on arrival, but once we were seated others began to arrive. The dining room isn't very big, it's quaint. Low lighting, white table cloth, candle lit, date night ambiance. Love it! Music playing: R&B jazz instrumentals; a little on the loud side, but not a deal breaker. There was no live music while we were there, but they do offer that on certain days. There is one unisex restroom, It appeared clean and nicely decorated, as was the rest of the restaurant. This place specializes in Charcuterie, meats, cheeses, wine, etc. But we were simply on the hunt for the best steak in Albany. Our server Hannah, was excellent! I hope she's there when I go back. She, and the rest of the staff were all perfect; a breath of fresh air in this customer service drought of a town. Hannah explained the menu, specials, what they offer on certain days, and everything else we wanted to know. She checked on us often, and we wanted for nothing. My husband and I don't drink, so we got a couple bottles of sparkling water and a soda. (This day they offered Pepsi products) For starters we had the Korean Duck Tacos and Bruschetta Al Pomodoro. The sauce on the tacos was a lot sweeter than I expected, but still delicious. Perfect tender meat, and choice toppings. The Bruschetta, was pretty good. But not anything I'd just HAVE to order again. My husband got a Medium Well Ribeye, collards, and creamed potatoes. He said the steak was a HIT:tender and flavorful. No complaints. He enjoyed the collards, and potatoes, as well. I had Lemon Herb half Chicken, Broccoli, and Creamed potatoes. The chicken, and lemon sauce were AMAZING! The chicken seemed brined, baked low and slow, so good. The broccoli tasted steamed and seasoned nicely. I'm not a fan of the potatoes. While they had great flavor, even without the lemon sauce; it was the texture. They were too loose. I prefer a thicker creamed/mashed potato. This establishment gets five stars, because customer service was exceptional, they go out of their way to give you a fine dining experience, and the food was overall fantastic! If you're in the area and in the mood for Charcuterie, or on the hunt for the best steak in Albany like we were: Come here! I do believe you won't be disappointed:)

The restaurant is very cozy with dim lighting and soft music playing in the background. This was our third visit to this restaurant and each time we have enjoyed a delicious meal. We chose stuffed mushrooms as our appetizer along with two robust cocktails. They offer an extensive wine selection as well as a full bar. For our entrees we enjoyed a very tasty stuffed shrimp linguini and an interesting salmon Wellington with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. Both portions were plenty for us to thoroughly enjoy! No room for desert this trip; next time we must plan our dinner meal just a little bit better. I'm sure that we'll arrange another stop over (and delightful meal) in Albany the next time we venture out into Georgia!

I was eating alone and sat at the bar and the server was respectful, attentive, and took my order quickly. The main reason this place drew me in was because of their menu emphasizing "home-made pasta." Anytime i see this in an Italian restaurant, I am going to because I've been searching for a restaurant to even come close to the homemade pasta my wife and I had in Florence, Italy. So in an effort to find that dish, I ordered the Bolognese. It wasn't exactly that true Italian bolognese that is closer to a stroganoff, but it was good. The dish has a great balance in the sauce-to-beef, and their homemade pasta was cooked perfect. I also ordered a side of their string fries with aioli. These were not as good as the main dish, they came out a little cold and lacked knock out flavor. Overall, I think this is a great spot, not just for an Italian place in Columbus, but for a true, homemade pasta experience. Every pasta dish I saw looked great and I loved the ambiance. I will definitely come back the next time I'm in Columbus!
