I made an appointment for a meet and greet but the person who arranged it no-showed and no one else…read morethere was authorized. Also the location isn't great due to a tiny waiting room and elevator only access from the garage. My dog went to Scampers Bellevue for years and their lobby policy (and large parking area) ensured no close calls with dogs on leash in small enclosed areas.

This is a long awaited review for Dogtopia in the Overlake area of Bellevue. I had my little Rocco…read morein their care for a few weeks. Generally I had been satisfied with their care. However there came a day when their care didn't meet my standards. Rocco is a toy Yorkie; he's very small. In fact, was the smallest dog in their small dog area. On the particular day in question, I noticed via their webcam that at least one, maybe two other dogs, were bullying him. I did not care for the lack of quick resolve for this, and I had communicated it. I believe it was the same day or nearly the same day, I observed the same in person. Upon giving their staff my concerns, he was shortly thereafter dismissed from daycare. After receiving a barrage of cancellation emails from Dogtopia, their owner had the audacity of emailing me instead of just calling. She provided a very passive aggressive letter, cc'ing different people as well. Rather than taking responsibility, she decided to kick him out of daycare. This was unacceptable, and I had responded a few days following the receipt of her email. You can find her email in full below: ------ Dear Mr. Marker: Rocco is a wonderful dog, and we have truly loved having him in our playrooms. It troubles me to hear, however, that you are unhappy with our services. Given your dissatisfaction with our open-play design, with our approach to safety, and with our staff, we believe that another care environment may be a better match for you. We emphatically want every family to feel confident and comfortable in their daycare choice. As your clearly displayed displeasure demonstrates, we are evidently not the right fit for you and thus we are unlikely to meet your expectations in the long term. We will miss Rocco, but we genuinely hope you find a daycare or care arrangement that aligns with what you're wanting. We wish you both the very best. Wishing you joy, Allison Christian Rau, owner Dogtopia of Redmond and Dogtopia of Bellevue Phone: Redmond (425) 201-7373, Bellevue (425) 516-7676 Website: Redmond | Bellevue ----- All that had to be done was an acknowledgment of my concerns, in the moment, and a greater level of attentiveness. This business clearly doesn't respond well to criticism. They opted for the easy way out instead of just working through the issues. I had no issues with their "open-play design"; it was their level of attentiveness. Rocco was not the aggressor here, rather it was the slightly larger dogs in their care. Unfortunately, I must advise you, the reader, that if you have a small dog, I would not recommend this daycare as a result of my experience.

Here is our story... We were in the process of buying a home, anyone who has purchased a home,…read moreknows there will probably be some delays. We are a family of 5 with a 10 month old rottweiler... And we were HOMELESS. we had no where to go until the paperwork was done... We were out of options, hotels don't want rottweilers.. Too "dangerous".. I was DESPERATE... After yelping and a few phone calls, I called these guys. Let me say... The woman who answered the phone was just marvelous. I was at my wits end. Panicking.. My husband and I haven't slept in a couple days. Living separately for a couple of days.. My poor puppy was on edge.. I didn't know what to do. The woman I spoke with eased my spirit in more ways than she could ever know. A half hour later... After getting his shot records we drove to Bothell... At first.. I was skeptical, mostly because I've never been away from my puppy... My husband took him in. Had a mini tour. Purchased extras. Walking. Play time.. Blankie and meat and rice. We were relieved... He was safe... We could stay in the hotel and sleep... Until our paperwork was signed. We were without my pup for 4 days.. We called daily and was given a report on him, I felt like a bad dog mom. Finally. My puppy came home... And he was HAPPY. he got bigger and was less aggressive now than when he went in for boarding. I am so happy that I found this place. My puppy is happy and was safe while we figured out our paperwork.. I am entirely GRATEFUL for this place for giving me peace of mind and HELP when I needed it the most. THANK YOU!

Unfortunately we will not be returning, and I recommend that you try another place first.

On my return trip via Snoqualmie Pass, I got unexpectedly delayed by a traffic jam, which put my arrival time after their closing time. I was stressing, thinking they would charge me for an extra day, but I called them and explained to my delay, and they agreed to meet me up to a half hour after closing time. I did so and got my dog back :) nice of them to accommodate. Note that they do require kennel cough inoculation, plus a poop sample, before they will accept your dog for boarding.

After research, we decided to board them with Seattle Canine Club. They hadn't been boarded before (they were watched by family back home). We paid approximately $500 for both our 6yo mutt and our 2yo labradoodle to stay. Prior to having them boarded, we took them for a day of doggy daycare to make sure they were well acclimated. Based on the initial visit (5h play day) and the reviews, we thought this was a safe place for our dogs to spend the weekend. Unfortunately, it was not. We understand that they do not receive the same attention as they would at home as the staff is caring for multiple pets, but what occurred was essentially animal abuse. Our labradoodle, Luka, gets frequent ear infections due to hair buildup and moisture (common in doodle breads). We sent him with ear cleaner (twice per day, must be wiped out of the ear) and an ear medication to prevent bacterial growth or yeast. We had also ensured that his ears were plucked, cleaned, and dried before dropping him off. We also provided three copies of written instructions as well as verbal instructions to care staff. Upon pickup on Sunday, we looked inside Luka's ears to find that he had chemical burns inside his ear as well as on the outside of his ear - a sign that the ear cleaner and medication were not wiped out of his ear after being applied. Further more, Luka was covered in pee - his paws, his hip area, and his belly. I am not sure if this was his own pee, or pee from another dog, but he was not dropped off on Thursday covered in urine. We understand that dogs may accidentally pee on themselves (or each other) but AT A MINIMUM send the dog home at least rinsed off. Upon bathing him, the water was absolutely filthy. Had the staff called us and let us know that he was covered in urine and offered to wash/groom him - we would have paid any expense. However, no call was made. Not about his ears, and certainly not about the urine he was covered in. My other dog, Meeko, is on doggie prozac for anxiety. Upon drop-off, we provided them with 4 pills and instructions to give him one pill per day (only Friday and Saturday since we were picking up on Sunday and had given him Thursday's). Upon pickup, there were still 4 pills in the container. This means that he was without his medicine Friday and Saturday, and Prozac is something that needs to build up in their system to work. Additionally, we received one photo of each dog for the entire weekend (which I had to request). Seattle Canine Club provided absolutely atrocious care for our two dogs, and we will never visit this establishment again. Additionally, we will be sure to let everyone know about the animal abuse that occurs when you think you are leaving your pets at a 'safe' location.

After our local training place closed we were looking for other options and committed to positive reinforcement training. Unfortunately a lot of trainers use aversives, especially with large strong dogs. We were so excited to find Julia, and after our meet & greet we were confident she was a good choice. Julia did a 2 week board & train with our dog while we were traveling, mainly focusing on leash skills and practicing calm behavior around exciting things. We noticed an immediate improvement, but have also been continuing to work on the training at home after our follow up. I'm happy to report that we are continuing to see improvement using Julia's methods.
