I tried fried steak strips since I never had seen that on a menu before. Rather disappointing. The strips were way over cooked (really well done) so the batter was a hard, brown shell. It was served with shrimp sauce for some bizarre reason. BBQ sauce would have been a better choice. French fries were nicely done and not greasy or salty. As a roadside diner this place is knock out great. We so much enjoyed the flavor of the charcoal broiled burgers. My husband ate every bite of his rare steak. Breads are fresh, veggies crunchy and flavorful. You can tell how good this is by all the locals parked around the place. Place is clean and stuffed with local info. I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS DINER. Randomly stopped on our road trip for something to eat and weren't sure what to expect. It's your classic small town place. The waitress was so pleasant and friendly. Their menu is pretty large and you can order breakfast or lunch/dinner food at any time. We tried their homemade seasoning and ending up buying three because we loved it. Stopped for lunch while visiting family in town and had a decent experience. It's the bright green building with the giant rocking chair off of the main road so it's not hard to miss. Menu is large but would recommend sticking to what they do best which is burgers and breakfast. Ordered an Idaho burger, that included an over easy egg, and was satisfied with it. My only gripe was the beef patty as it was thin and overcooked. It's obvious the patties are bought pre-made and frozen. Making them day-of from freshly ground meat would make them much better. Although they came late the fried pickles were good as well as the tater tots that came with the burger. We were too full at the end of our meal to try them but they are serving pickle popsicles made by freezing pickle juice. read more

You know your dining experience isn't going to be a good one when your two year old son says "it smells awful in here" when you enter the restaurant. The "roast beef" was cold and old. The bratwrust was also cold. The best and only good part of the meal were the baked potatoes. The waitress had a chip on her shoulder the size of Texas. I was afraid she spit in our food. Staying in a nearby RV park, we noted there was always a crowd at Pickles. Not so much on our Tuesday 5pm visit. Probably why the single waitress was also busing the tables. On our departure she apologized for the slowness of her service, and that goes a long way. My wife's New York strip steak earned a 7/10. My Rueben a solid 10/10. We have always enjoyed stoping in, the food in good. The service is always good. Enjoy the people. We are from arco but moved away about 10 years ago. So we try to stop when ever in town. Except today 4 tables and 2 waitress and had to as for service after 20 minutes of waiting. Everyone else had been served And waited on already the girl who waited on us wasnt our actual waitress but she stepped in and was great. She had light brown/blond hair. Very nice. Breakfast is OK. The hash browns were fresh cut from the looks of 'em, but no flavor. The pancakes are the best breakfast item, just a single will tide you over since they're pretty large. Stopped here on our way to Craters of the Moon. We passed several signs building it up as a destination stop. The food was good if a little high priced for burgers and fries. The fried pickles are the best I've ever had, definitely get them. You can get a bottle of their seasoning salt, take a picture in a huge rocking chair out front, and purchase a Pickle's tee shirt to commemorate the occasion. Passing through on our way to Yellowstone. Stopped for lunch. The staff was friendly but the restaurant pretty dirty. Ants on the floor. The burgers were so dried out. Service was slow but I can understand that with the difficulty finding help. When reviewing the receipt after we left we saw that the server included her tip on the check. Can't say enough about this great little, small town restaurant!! We are RV'ers staying the night in Arco and happened on Pickles Place. Had their Atomic Burger and it was ........ The Bomb! Fresh meat hamburger with fried onions and mushrooms... Our waitress was so attentive even with the place full with large parties at her other tables. We loved it so much we made sure to have breakfast there this morning! Again, a full house but our coffee was kept filled, with a smile and our meals were freshly made and tasted like home made! We don't come this way often but we will make a point to stop whenever we are in the area! Very few times in my life do I leave a restaurant where I want to go barf what little I ate off my plate, but my visit to Pickles fits the bill. The two room cafe is really dirty, with junk and boxes piled up in several corners of the restaurant. Both our coffee mugs was so grossly dirty I hated to put my lips or hands on the cup. I would have asked for another one, but by the looks of everything here, I knew a different cup would only yield the same result. Even the waitresses were wearing food crusted dirty uniforms. Still, the joint was busy with almost every table taken on a Sunday morning. Boxes piled up and just a general mess in the kitchen. The water pitcher and plastic glasses were plastered with lime spots or dried up soap from a ineffective dishwasher. Tables took way too long to be bussed and overall it was a gross setting to eat in. Flies too. And the food, served on chipped plates, consisted of practically raw mushy hash browns, greasy scrambled eggs and I think my toast was buttered using the liquid oleo and paintbrush technique. The hills have... Burgers, Atomic Burgers!!!! Located in the middle of nowhere. Pickles place is really the only choice, so comparing it to a local eatery would be pointless. However, if there was another eatery Pickles would probably win. All the thrill us city folk get out of eating in these places are in full effect. You walk in and everyone looks at you like "Whoa, who is that!?!" but in a good way. They're very nice people. The food is awesome. In particular the "Atomic Burger" named after the towns legacy for atomic power. This massive burger has a taste as big as its size. The fries weren't half bad ether. All in all a pretty good meal.
