Once there was a place for me, it took a while for someone to take my order. I ordered something I thought would be fast, but it still look a bit for my food to come. We'd been out at Craters of the Moon and heading back through Arco. I had read about this place on a blog and decided we had to try it. The fried pickles were very good! They use spears with just enough breading. My husband and I had the Crater Burger. I've never had black olives on a burger before, but I may have to start putting them on. It was a Sunday morning and they were very busy. We chose to sit at the counter and it worked fine for us. The fries and tator tots were rather flavorless. We saw a billboard while driving through the area and decided to pull in here and stopped for some food. There seems to be a lot of locals there and the other patrons were quite friendly. We ordered a grilled ham and cheese with french fries and anatomic burger with tots to go. They give you a discount if you pay cash, so we did. It took a while for the food to come out but we took a photo in the giant novelty chair out front while we waited. I was very disappointed in the food, especially because the french fries I was served were not cooked. They were quite raw. I had my husband try some just to be sure and he spit them out. I don't understand how you can serve someone uncooked food. My grilled cheese would have been okay but it seemed as though they took a piece of prepackaged cold ham slice and put it into the middle of the sandwich. I ended up pulling out the piece of ham and feeding it to my dog. My husband did like his atomic burger, but his tots were also cold and barely cooked. It seemed very strange to me seeing as how long it took us to get the food. This was also one of the more pricey meals we had along our drive in this area. There don't seem to be a lot of options for dining in this area, and I'm glad that the locals seem to enjoy hanging out here, but for those of you just traveling through, I can't recommend a stop here. read more

We stopped by after visiting a nearby hot springs on our way to Idaho Falls. As expected, most places were closed on Sunday, but thankfully, Pickle's place was open for business The place was PACKED (probably because most places were closed in nearby towns). The service was good, granted how busy the restaurant was. This is a hole in the wall restaurant, so do not expect anything super trendy. This restaurant was opened in the 50s and has a lot of charm. We ordered the atomic burger (not pictured) and the fried pickles (pictured). The atomic burger was the BOMB ( no pun intended ;) ). We really enjoyed sharing that. Every time I drive across Idaho, I take the long route so that I can stop at pickles place. I think this is the best place in the entire state of Idaho to eat. They have a very broad menu with drive-in style food plus things like ham and cheese on rye or malts instead of just shakes. A ton of different types of drinks. Just bad all around. How does this place have a good reputation? You're restaurant needs some serious improvement if fast food value menus are better quality and value. Food: The "low carb lunch" was terrible, just a small overcooked burger patty the was absolutely unseasoned. Hilariously each table has a bunch of shakers of different types of "John's Seasoning", they taste of nothing but salt. It also came with the saddest salad I've ever seen; large pieces of iceberg lettuce with some store bought sliced mushrooms, three cherry tomatoes, two large strips of carrot and two large pieces of celery with hidden valley ranch. Why do you even bother having this on the menu? You really think this is worth offering to your customers? Service: We were seated relatively quickly. Food came out in a reasonable time. Our server never came by to refill waters. They also did not even ask if we wanted to split the check and just showed up with it randomly, so we ended up having to split the bill ourselves using Venmo. read more

Friends told us this is a pretty tasty spot so we made plans to go this way to try it out! Of course v started with the fried pickles & cheescurds appetizer. Next the Mr had the Ski Bum Burger and I the Reuben. Surprised the pickles came in fried spears vs chips and pretty sure the fried curds are supplied via food service but melted molten cheese is pretty good regardless. The burger had a really soft bun & no shortage of fresh veggies: onions, pickles, lettuce and tomato & he said onion rings were "perfect" & not greasy etc. The Ruben was decent, no regular thousand island on it but ok. Fair amount of sauerkraut. Service was awesome, even though really busy. Cleanliness a little lacking on floors, mustard, catsup and their seasoning shakers but it was really busy. I was thinking that this was just going to be a basic diner but we decided to give it a try. We opened the door and there was a waiting line for a seat. Apparently, this is nothing new. Great service, great location and a large variety of food on the menu. We stopped by for lunch on a rainy summer day. They were able to accommodate our group of 6. I had the steak sandwich with fries and a cup of soup. It was very good. We of course tried the fried pickles and cheese curds as appetizers and they were excellent. Keep driving. Stopped in on a saturday, and yeah the place was busy, but good grief, the staff moved like molasses. Took 20 minutes to wait on us, 40 minutes to get our food, which was wrong, then another 20 minutes to get it right. We watched other people who came in after us get their orders, eat, and leave while we waited. We just ordered a couple of burgers. You can see right into the kitchen from where we sat, and the shaggy-headed kid working the grill while kind of wandering around aimlessly (with no hairnet, mind you) didn't exactly instill confidence. Surprised the food didn't come with a side of hair... They knocked off the price of the fries, which was only a couple of bucks, to make up for it the wait, after I went to the counter to get the bill myself because I knew it would be an eon before the check came. Should have just walked out, doubt they would have noticed. Seriously, I still had a bunch of sandwich fixins in the truck from camping, if I had known what we were in for, I would have just pulled over somewhere and made a sandwich. It's been almost a year since we had a late lunch at Pickle's Place. Stopped by after visiting Craters of the Moon preserve. I had the cheese burger loaded with onion rings and my bride had the Patty Melt with fries. Both sandwiches were delicious and the sides were perfect Service was great and the staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs. The restaurant was nothing fancy but it was clean and well taken care of. Just wish it wasn't over a thousand miles away. If we ever make it back to Idaho we will definitely stop by again. read more

We were passing through Arco looking for lunch and found Pickle's Place. It was busy with a steady flow of customers. Many were travelers like us and others seemed to be locals. I like eating where the locals eat, they know good food for a good value. I ordered a beef patty with cheese and green salad. Meat overcooked and dry, onion rings burnt and greasy. Tried the reuben w fries. It was okay but very salty. They didnt put thousand island in the reuben. The marble rye was nice though.
