My wife and I stopped by Pickleman's in McKinney around 9:30 PM after a long day of work, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. Even though they close at 10, we never felt that awkward "we're about to close" energy you sometimes get when you walk in late. Instead, the staff was welcoming and genuinely friendly. Chanel, who took our order, was outstanding. She was courteous, patient, and kind, and she walked us through some of her favorite sandwiches when we weren't sure what to get. Her attitude made the entire interaction feel relaxed rather than rushed. We initially planned to order our food to-go out of respect for the time, but Chanel encouraged us to dine in, letting us know that they serve guests right up until closing. That level of hospitality--especially at the end of a shift--goes a long way and was truly appreciated. The food itself was excellent, fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we needed at the end of the day. Between the quality of the meal and the exceptional service, we will definitely be returning. Here I am doing another chain review. Unfortunately, there aren't too many Mom and Pop sandwich spots to choose from so these are the options. The sandwich was delicious. The meats tasted high quality. Very juicy and flavorful pork and ham. I got the Cuban, so pickles and yellow mustard, adding red onions. The bread was fresh and deliciously crispy without being too much. A lot of times the bread is very dense, doughy and just too much. But this was thin which is what I prefer... to have more in the middle and that there was. The reason I gave it only three stars is because I'm not paying $18 for something that was very small. We asked for their biggest sandwich and this is what we got. It definitely was not more than 7 inches. I can go to Cheba Hut and get a gigantic 12 inch for $20 bucks. Way bigger than the largest sandwich you can get at Pickleman's. I'm not paying that kind of money for a puny sandwich again. It's to bad too because I was so hopeful for another good sandwich spot and really wanted to try everything else here. I will not be back. read more

The store is typically staffed by a team of 5-6 older teens or young adults who are always polite, professional, and efficient. Pickleman's just opened two days ago and I am glad that they did. I always on the hunt for a good sandwich and good pizza, and I am weary of places I haven't been with no Yelp reviews, but the place looks nice so I thought I'd give it a try. I had the hodge podge sandwich and I added onion oil and vinegar, Italian seasonings, and their spicy pepper mix for which they charged additional. I also ordered the sausage pizza to give that a try. My initial thought was disappointment as I saw the size of the bread roll, it's about a 6-in, maybe 8 in, but the hodgepodge has quite a bit of meat, I was very happy about that. I also like that they toasted it before they added the condiments which made a difference. The bread was great, the meat was fresh, it was a delicious sandwich all around, and though I think it's expensive at $10.49, literally any sandwich shop you go to will be at least that these days. The sausage pizza is not really a pizza, it's a flatbread, which is fine because it tasted delicious, but I prefer more toppings on my pizza, and you can't put a bunch of toppings on a piece of flat bread. So 10 for flavor but probably something I might not get again, even though at $12 it's not a bad deal for a 12-in pizza. The place is nice, on their second day they were full of people, so they seem to know what they're doing as far as getting a word out. They also have a kids menu which I did not take a picture of but I did take a picture of the main menu and the restaurant. They also have places for dogs /outside seating. I saw Javier giving instructions to the employee so I'm guessing he's either the manager or the owner, so to him I say well done, it was a pleasant experience and excellent food! read more

Ordered a kids meal....it was $8. The sandwich was literally SMALLER than my 4 year olds hand. She doesn't eat much, but she said she was still hungry after that grilled cheese. Bad customer service. The first young lady, I think blonde, told us repeatedly after we smiled and acknowledged her to head down to the right to order. We stepped back to get out of the way - nobody was in line BTW it was slow - she kept telling us move down to order. Finally let her know we were here at the menu to look at the menu. Weird, huh? We order and I give mine. The person walks away. The brunette lady comes up making a pizza & kinda noticed we looked annoyed, asked if all was ok. She gets the other persons attention to finish our order. The music is ok but if too loud for employees to hear well, it might not be beneficial. Not my income though. She tells us we order drinks at the register, meaning there isn't a way to log them where they get food started. You go to the register and repeat the order and sizes. They need the ounces. Meaning you need to look at the menu to convert lol. I'm guessing this works well if it's super busy and food is ready by the time you're at the register. Like cafe style. It doesn't work well for a new person who comes during a slow period, unfamiliar with your menu, who just needs to look and order then move on. The Buffalo chicken Mac was ok but a ton of sauce. The broccoli cheese soup was also ok. There isn't much you can do with it, but it doesn't taste overly powdered so that's good. The Italian beef is not more bread than beef. That's also good. This was not worth driving from the next city to try but you also won't know until you try. It's def better than subway. Updating real quick because I forgot to mention the little cute piece of bread they give you with your soup. I didn't take a pic but we wrapped it to go. We were excited to try this place because it had an intriguing name. We tried four separate sandwiches... The Italian club stood out easily as the best. The turkey club tasted like a turkey sandwich... Not bad... But nothing special. The buffalo chicken sandwich needed More spice... And blue cheese on it... It says it comes with it, but it was pretty bland for a buffalo chicken. The Italian beef was OK. We ordered it dry and added the au jus. It was pretty good... The right way to order it is wet... But you have to eat it immediately or else he gets soggy. The place is very clean inside... Would be a nice place to stop and eat lunch but we took ours to go. Disappointments? We were both surprised that you don't get a pickle wedge with your sandwich... For goodness sake... It's the name of your restaurant. I also was surprised that they did not have potato salad... I'm not sure anything about Pickleman's can really be called "gourmet"..... there are way better (and less expensive) sandwich options out there. First of all, the service line is a little awkward, starting at the back of the store. Not a deal-breaker...just not my preference. Dinner for four was about $75 dollars....basically just sandwiches, chips and drinks. The sandwiches only come in one size...approximately 8 inch. ordered the #12 Smokehouse Stack, which was soggy, bacon was scarce, and the pulled pork wasn't very flavorful. My wife ordered the #11 Italian Club, which she said was pretty devoid of flavor. My grandson got the kid's grilled cheese, but didn't enjoy it either. We also ordered the garlic cheese bread. It was ok, but certainly wouldn't qualify as "gourmet". I don't think we will be back. read more

My sandwich was drowning in Mustard and Mayonnaise for starters, but whatever I'll live. I added tomatoes and asked for salt and the guy making the sandwich asks another employee to grab a packet of salt next to the drink machine. She starts to walk over and get it but turns around to do something else and got distracted in a nanosecond. Ok I said I guess I'll walk over and get a packet of salt. After the first 3 I grabbed were pepper I finally found salt. Soooo dumb. This is a restaurant, why isn't there Salt and Pepper where your employees can use it on peoples food as they are making it. Really really want to like this place. I will say the pickles are delicious. The sandwiches however on two different occasions were definitely not great. First time, we got a turkey sandwich and NY "style" sandwich, and a mac and cheese--all to-go. The turkey sandwich legitimately had one slice of turkey, the rest was ALL lettuce. One sliced tomato. The Mac and cheese as good. But for $6 I'd expect a larger size than the tiny container it comes in. Today, was really craving a good Italian style sandwich. Decided to give it another try. Went through the drive through, ordered a #11 with no pepperoni, no onions and extra pickles. Not toasted. A bag of chips. And a bottled water. What I got was entirely gross. The sandwich was dry, like NO oil, just a hard slightly stale roll and the meat. One pickle, no extra. They forgot my bottled water, which was annoying. Since finding Pickleman's Gourmet Cafe, it has become our 'go-to' sandwich shop. The people are so friendly, the sandwiches are excellent, the bread is superb, and we are comfortable in the atmosphere. Parking is tough at times, and the chips aren't our favorite but they are okay...but the attraction is the sandwiches and soups. Even the salad is great. Try the Tomato Basil and the Broccoli Cheddar soup too. The only confusion is there isn't a pickle with the sandwich - it is an extra up-charge for a pickle at Pickleman's! We almost didn't try Pickleman's restaurant on 380 today because we were rushed to get to our destination. So happy that we did. Consider it a deli as it specializes in sandwiches but these sandwiches are different. They are made with delicious deli meats on fresh warm bread and they are so good. There are many selections available. I had a half sandwich of salami with a side of hot tomato soup and warm chocolate chip cookie. I loved every bite.The restaurant is clean and the cook staff is perfectly organized. I will never enjoy a deli sandwich on cold bread again. Potbelly's has Zapp's potato chips-which is a plus there. We go to Pickleman for the Italian, fairly often though the location sucks (380). Service has been good and efficient. We ordered a wide range of foods to try, including a gluten free pizza, soup, salad and pickle. The tomato basil bisque did not seem like a bisque at all, as there was no noticeable cream. In fact it was extremely greasy and left a film on the tray (picture). I could not eat it. The bread that came with it was good. The gluten free pizza was lacking flavor due to the bland tomato sauce. The BBQ chips were good. My friends salad first came out incorrectly the first time, and they were out of mushrooms, which was not a problem as we expect such things at new places that are working out the kinks. The problem was the ranch dressing that came with it (and my pizza). It was very runny and watery, pretty much ruining the salad. Not a thick flavorful dressing. Finally, I ended with half a pickle, since this is their thing. Each end of it was soft and dark green, which meant it was old and going soft. Tried the new location in Mckinney. Never been so didn't know what to expect. The staff was very friendly. We were greeted at the door, asked if we've ever been and the menu explained (which I really appreciate). The staff behind the counter was also very friendly and professional. Interior is clean, new with self-serve drinks, eating utensils, etc. Our sandwiches were delicious, freshly made with good ingredients, really good bread and perfectly toasted. That being said they're overly pricey in my opinion. My husband got the chipotle chicken with hot peppers, not knowing they charge $.99 for hot peppers. I got the BLT sandwich with no lettuce and for a 3 ingredient 6 inch sandwich 10 bucks is too much in my opinion.
