Another room in the store.

Such a beautiful store with exquisite merchandise! This was definitely a feast for the eyes. I loved the different displays and variety of items for sale. It was a little pricey but really not too bad for the quality. It was very nice, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. The sales lady was ringing up a customer as I walked in and was in a friendly discourse with her. I had to return to my room, which was nearby in the Atterdag Inn. I eyed a few things to purchase and will return! BTW, this is attached to Mortensen's Bakery. That is another review!

A lot of neat things to look at. A vintage-esk vibe with modern fads. From cute baby clothes to wedding stuff to home decor to magnets to jewelry to aprons haha. There's a bunch of calligraphy canvases with scripture, framed plant prints, and a section with encouraging inspiring words for the soul shared. A pleasant place to check out if you like looking at decor and little things :P

A poet wrote that "Good fences make good neighbors," and this is about the friendliest fence around. SInce we always go to the bakery next door, Mortensen's, home of some of the best baked goods in Solvang, we also go to Picket Fences. It is a kind of wonderland of table top still lives, suggesting pleasant living. Viewing the merchandise never fails to give me relaxed and uplifted experience. I liked that the owner went right to Thanksgiving decor, and skipped what is now the ubiquitous Halloween decor (even though I love Halloween). It flowed more naturally with the kind of pale and glittery aesthetic of the store's merchandise. It is surprising that there are so many thiings here not just to please the eye, but also to potentially please friends and relatives as small gifts and mementos. The pumpkins made from tweedy material, the glittery pumpkins on a table, the handcrafted books, and specialty leather purses all provided delight to the eye. The rose pillows, and soft sweet baby gifts provided sighful inspiration. After much pleasant examination and contemplation, I chose a gorgeous Tuscan cotton dish towel, and I think my honey even got some presents for me! Prices are very reasonable here, for artful items that will remind you of the trip long after it is over.

This place shares a building with Mortenson's bakery.....which is a favorite of mine, so I love buying a Petit Four and strolling in to Picket Fences as I take my last bite. (petit fours are small ok?!?) Their stuff is shappy chic/french. The type of beautiful things that you love to look at. The type of things that make you think you could simply re-do your home in that style. The type of things that smell lightly of rose or lavendar, but cost an arm and a leg. The type of things you never end up buying because although the things are beautiful...they are useless. "Really....", I think to myself, "Do I NEEEED that pink glass tea light holder with mini hearts on it?" No. "But it is soooo pretty". This is where my boyfriend takes my hand and leads me out of the store. About 3 min. later I have completely forgotten that I wanted anything there. I am too busy with the Abelskiver down the road.

One of my favorite stores! I cannot come to Solvang without stopping in and seeing what Leanne has in her sweet store. Love it!

But I literally could have spent hours in there talking to Leanne and walking out with a few bags of treasures!

Just know that this place is often very full of inventory and crowds so it can get tough to walk around & shop. It won't be a casual shopping experience. Especially on weekends and summers. I came here mainly because I heard it was a great place to get old Lego minifigure bags. However, I was not expecting some of the older ones to go for up to $30 a bag! That's highway robbery. You can find opened ones online for a fraction of that price and when you do that, there's no need to guess if you are getting the one you want (or be surprised at all by what you're paying for). If you're looking for bags to keep sealed, this is a great option for you, but for someone like me who was just looking to get one or two to complete a series, this just wasn't priced right enough for me to pull the trigger. I did, however, purchase a single mini figure that's exclusive to a Danish store chain. Was it overpriced? Yeah. But not too high that I didn't feel like treating myself. Staff is very friendly and I saw them happily helping customers all throughout the shop. Customer service is great here. So rest assured if you have questions about inventory or if you want to try on something, there will be someone here to help you out quickly.

It beckoned me to enter with the promise of treasures beyond their doors. It is a beautifully organized and decorated store. Curated items were professionally displayed. I do understand the mark up is needed to sustain the running of this business, etc. I will wait to return to Old Town Temecula where they sell the exact same items for much lower. This is one of the stores we stopped in during our wanderings. It's beautifully displayed, with many different feature areas. From unique kitchen gadgets and accessories, to home accents of many different types, there's much to see and consider here. Full retail is in effect, and some of the items seem very pricey, which is the reason for a one star reduction. Still, I found it very enjoyable to browse their selections, enjoying the stylish displays. I did find several items to take home, plus picked up a couple small gifts. I particularly love a silicone spatula I bought here, which has an ergonomic design that makes it comfortable to use. I don't know how they'll manage reopening / whether they offer buy online and pickup with minimal contact. I hope that they'll be able to survive the Coronavirus situation!

Happiness set in as soon as I walked through the door. Clean, organized, bright and more importantly -- no old, dirty smell! The first item that caught my eye was a handmade mug. It reminded me of when my grandson was learning the alphabet as he would excitedly shout "N is for Narwhal!" Needless to say, I couldn't put it back down. We browsed every corner and found so many lovely items, including a beautiful vintage vanity (on my wish list). Prices were surprisingly reasonable, which made it really difficult not to buy more. As we were ready to check out with my mug, the husband pointed out a tiny silver scoop in a locked case. He could tell on my face that I wanted to add it to my collection, so he called someone to open the case -- he's such an enabler. :) The staff are easy to find, incredibly friendly and helpful. Such a great place -- we'll be back!

While in Solvang, we found this really cool vintage thrift shop and walked around a bit. The inside had so many items to look at, but still felt very organized and didn't leave me feeling overwhelmed. They had everything - old records, comics, purses, fur coats, glassware -- even backstage passes from different concerts which I thought was pretty cool. I am always on the hunt for Uranium glass and A Piece of the Past had a few items. One being an ashtray and another being a set of glasses that I am still kicking myself for not just buying. Service was very friendly throughout the store and I also thought that most of the items were fairly priced - it didn't feel like they were trying to gouge anyone. Check them out!
