My husband called Richmond Pick-n-Pull to get a quote on his car. The guy asked some questions but we were shocked to see the offer amount be so low. When speaking with family members, we were told the online offer asked more questions and we should try there. We waited a week and proceeded to do the online car purchase offer and got a higher rate. I was not pleased with the person on the phone only asking 3 questions and low balling us. So much less chaos than Oakland and better selection. If you have an old 90s car this is a great place to come for some parts. Cars from the 70s and 80s are hard to find here now. Most cars are from the 90s and 00s. I suppose that is to be expected. There are currently two Mercedes here with the legendary OM606 engine - its the first time I ever saw this car in the junk yard. I happened to walk past and notice one - a 99. Not surprisingly the engine was all picked and pulled out - somebody probably dropped it into some sort of pre smog car for fun. When tuned they car be very, very fast. Enthusiasts love to put big injectors on and maybe a bigger turbo. Its a great idea - as no matter how hard you push that engine it can handle it. The only negative is some sort of rubber burning smell I think from nearby homeless. They burn whatever even during spare the air days. If people burned clean dry wood it would be one thing... but they burn who knows what and the fire is suffocated so it smolders. I guess nobody was a boy scout. I got a few parts for my ALH tdi - they had four gas versions here. Door panel, weather stripping and a bunch of small bits and pieces. People here were friendly and I think the parts prices were not as bad as in Oakland. In theory the prices should be the same but I'm convinced it doesn't work that way in certain cases. read more

Easily found the vehicle I was looking for...only thing is the walk back ..I walked from row 44 back to the office with a hood as you can't drive in there I believe?! Never thought I'd end up here! But my boyfriend needed a few parts and the junkyard was the answer. Make sure you wear something you don't mind getting dirty! This is truly a do-it-yourself situation. You pay like $2 for entry and literally walk into a wonderland of used cars and vans and trucks and stuff of all ages and colors and sizes. It's astounding really how much is hidden back there! It's a free for all. Kinda fun, especially if you love cars or just pulling things apart. Bring your tools and gloves too if you're really trying to get down and roll up your sleeves. Parking lot has plenty of space and it doesn't seem to be overly busy. But also that place is HUGE so no need to worry about not finding a spot or getting what you need (unless it's crazy hard to find). It's a gold mine. A treasure hunt. Went to pull a few parts for my daughters car, removed needed items then took the parts to the cashier after being given the total for all the parts, the cashier began talking about Pick N Pull memberships but did not return to me one of the parts I had paid for which I didn't notice at first because I had two other parts that had a similar color so I trusted that all would have been given all back to me. When I did notice I did not have the part I paid for I tried to call to see if I could pick it up tomorrow no one answered the phone which was very frustrating. Needless to say I didn't get the part that I paid for and what was more bothering was the cashier not attempting to return to me the part I paid for as I was leaving she when I was parked at the main entrance not even 30 feet from the cashier window and blocked by incoming vehicles so I had to wait in parking lot directly in front of the cashiers office for 10 minutes. My suggestion to anyone would be to not assume the employee's integrity and to double check items paid for before leaving this location. Also I did notice that several people entered this location by climbing the fences to not only avoid the $3 entrance fee but to remove parts from vehicles without paying. My three stars is the best review summarized. 4 Stars for vehicle selection, prices 2 Stars for customer service* *Cashier did not give part that was paid for, another person ignored me when I asked if they could move a vehicle that was blocking my exit lane and another blocking the main entrance to the Pick N Pull. Over the last 2-4 years the prices have become ridiculous for junk yard pricing, for mechanical parts they charge 50 - 70% of the part New. I needed an EGR Valve fora 2001 Honda, New online $ 50, Junkyard $32. Hey PicknPull !!! (and all newbies to how Junk yards work), remember your customer has to: - Drive to the junkyard (Do you have one close by?), $2 to enter. dress appropriately, deal with dirt - You need to bring your tools and hope the part you want is available (their site can only tell you if they have a matching car, not what's available off of it) - IF you find the Part, you pay the Price Percentage above plus tax - Obviously part is not guaranteed to work so buyer beware - If you do return it, has to be within 30 days with receipt and at best you get a "store credit" and your back to square one OR Order online, skip all of the above hassle for clean new part with Full refund available at most reputable sites. Glad they exist, I suppose. But they are not "customer-centric" They claim lowest prices, but it is relative to eBay. Near as I can tell I have never had to lug 35# of tools and spend an hour getting filthy removing a part on eBay. There are some deals to be had, mostly engines and interior parts, but with no warranty or even any way to test whether a part works, the risk adjusted price is not great. Bigger issue is that it is really badly managed. They charge admission, even if you don't find the part, but can't be bothered to refill the soap dispensers or keep their car locator up to date. Pick-n-Pull isn't just a great way to recycle, get parts for your car for pennies, it's an experience. So, slap on your jeans, grab a small tool kit, and have at it. It's a party in a junkyard. I've been to the one in Northern California and now of course, Virginia Beach, VA. I was there for a sun visor to an Acura.... but while I was there I thought I could see if they had some things for my car. I found the exact make and model for the sun visor almost immediately. As I'm unscrewing it, men in overalls and coveralls look at me strangely. Yes, a woman is in your territory, stand back, I can vote too! The customers warm up to me, one even helped me get the last screw out of the sun visor. Soon we are laughing and kidding around. We shared tools. All you have at Pick-n-Pull are the customers, don't expect a customer service area, or directions. They have rules at these places, and they believe in the honor system, SO PLEASE DO NOT STEAL!! It's dangerous, messy, and if you haven't been to a junkyard before imagine rows and rows of cars piled one on top of the other. Stacked, high. And YES, they can fall. Pick-n-Pull will not be responsible if you get hurt. These stacks are organized by maker eg. Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota etc. Then by model. In California they had foreign cars, NOT in Virginia. So if you're like me, and you own something exotic, forget it. You'll embarrass yourself asking. In fact, if memory serves when I asked where I could find Jaguar. They just laughed. And I sensed they didn't want to share tools anymore. Next, you bring what you took from the car to the register. It might be a junkyard, but they are organized. They keep track of everything, they know what they have and don't. So if you're not interested in rummaging, just call. They have everything catalogued, and can go get the part for you, have it ready for when you come to get it. BUT you will miss out on the junkyard talk/party thing. Lastly, Pick-n-Pull will sell your car for you in an auction. They'll even pick it up from your house or wherever it is. You must have all your paperwork in order (registration, bill of sale, legal stuff) or no DEAL. I love it. If you're interested in cars, start here. Terrible experience ! First I asked the specific vehicle if they have in the lot as they put it on website. The person said yes and ask $2 for entrees and told me where the vehicle is . Everything was ok until that time . I gave him $5 but he gave me back $1 change back with no receipt ! I think he doesn't have a math or he is getting extra for himself .. I didn't say anything at the moment I just entered the lot but unfortunately the vehicle wasn't there! I came back to office I told him this . He just said sorry I can't help and I can't refund your money back!! I asked him where is the manager. They said there is no manager here! We located the vehicle easily through their online locator. We loaded up at the nearby Starbuck's and Noah's in Cupertino then headed out to Richmond Pick n Pull. Lots of parking in the huge lot. all the rows of cars are numbered so we found the car we needed quick. The part was pulled and tested for proper Ohms and passed. YAY!?!? When I got to the front they didn't want to check me out it was 6:05... they told me I can leave it on the side for me to pick up tomorrow morning I told them if they can put a sign so they won't touch it and they said it was not necessary since it was going to be there. I come next morning at 9AM to come to find out they threw away the piece I needed... they said one of the am workers probably thought it was trash... like didn't I just tell y'all if I could put a sign up for that specific reason? Amazing place. Spend $2 to enter and pull all the parts you can find. The parts are priced according to a parts type list that can be found online. (Compare to new parts prices!) Non-working stuff can be returned at any PnP for store credit. Bring your own tools and something to put your parts in (a cart). As has been said in other reviews, it's a hike from the entrance to the actual yard. This probably also is a no-brainer, but take mechanics' gloves (expect glass shards). You may want some WD 40 on you (in the absence of elbow grease). The cars are neatly lined up in rows. Look online in advance to see what they have, and take note of the row numbers of interest. (They will point you to other PnP locations in the vicinity with models of interest.) The place is huge. Also online is a map, although it isn't too hard to navigate without if you know where you are headed to. Staff are friendly and helpful. read more

I drove over 30 minutes to Richmond and checked in. The person there checked their system and told me where to find the vehicle. After 45 minutes of looking and trying to call back to the sales desk from the lot (twice, no answer), I gave up and walked the (seemed like) half mile back to the office. After stumping one sales person, another came over and said that since the vehicle had been on their lot for three weeks, it was probably already gone. I read the negative reviews about trying to sell your car to them, but I still took a chance since the place is only a few miles away from my mom's house and I had time.... but of course, it was still a fail. I called "their" number (you're clearly NOT speaking to someone who actually works at the location) and got the quote. I specifically said I would be taking the car in TODAY (on a Sunday) and the guy said that would be fine as long as I got it in by 4pm. This company is a disgrace, a place I would give 0 stars to if I could. We organized a car to be picked up gave our junk slip (in person) and were promised a pick up. On the day of our pick up the driver NEVER showed, when we called to inquire about where they were Lucinda the desk clerk said that we had missed our pick up (according to their driver) and our car was inaccessible from the street. ALL LIES!!! We were literally watching out of the window, not to mention Pick N'Pull has picked up cars several times from this area and my driveway is literally on the street. Max London the floor supervisor then got on the phone and re-stated the same info. and that additionally we'd need to put the car on the street. When we inquired how they intended to compensate our time he said they would not (mind you both my husband and I BOTH took off work for this). When we asked to speak to his manager he put his supervisor Shareen Eastlake on the phone she restated the same info. She did not accommodate any of our requests and excused her drivers lies and insisted that they will NOT pick it up if it's not on street (although there guaranteed they did/would when they came to drop off the junk slip). They still have my JUNK SLIP and are refusing to take responsibility for that they told us they would pick the car up out of the driveway. Shareen then began to insist that its against company policy to take it out of the driveway. She additionally refused to give her managers full name and number or email. She then insisted she was corporate and had no boss above her, upon dither inquiry she admitted to having a boss named 'Ron' and would not provide anymore information for him. The lack of the professionalism is appalling, when a company gives inaccurate information (prices, policies, etc.) it is there responsibility and best business practice to follow thru on what they've advertised/agreed to. DO NOT EXPECT BEST BUSINESS PRACTICES when dealing with this company! I will be reporting ALL of this the BBB. In conclusion Shareen completed the conversation by saying that we have the choice to do business elsewhere, to add insult to injury. *The staff at the actual Richmond site was AWESOME!
