I don't know why I've never noticed "Piccolo Gourmet" before; I mean I'm in area a lot. It wasn't till someone told me to go, that I noticed it. But, I was hungry and a hero from Piccolo was on the menu. There was plenty of parking outside, and looking from the parking lot, at the building, I had a feeling, this place was going to be worth the trip. Inside, didn't disappoint, it was as beautiful on the inside as it was on the outside. Organized, clean, and big, that's everything this deli slash pizzeria represents. Even better than the building was the staff. They were extremely friendly and helpful. The lady at the cash register more so. They didn't have something I wanted, so she was ready to check in the basement for me. I kindly told her "No thanks" but she still wanted to look for me anyway. After telling her, it's fine, she finally relented. My hero and egg salad were done, so I left. Mental note; I have to go back. I ate my hero without taking a picture. Was it because I was so hungry, or am I slipping with Yelp? I like to think I was hungry. The hero was fresh and delicious. I did have the sense to snap a shot of the egg salad, also delicious. I really enjoy this place and I have been coming here with my dad and my sister for a few years. Their food is really good and I really enjoy their paninis. They also have a great variety of stuff in the deli section and their sandwiches tastes really great as well. The only thing I don't like too much as the fact that they are really stingy when it comes to giving you a decent amount of food in there hot food section. Depending on who is serving you they will literally give you the minimum or they will put a little bit more for you but considering that the price is up there you do want your dollars worth. Other than that the staff is really nice. They do have some baked items that are homemade which I enjoy because they're not too sweet. Great place overall read more

Wow! This place has everything! I had the roast beef stuffing with all the add ons (on a hero bun of course!) plus a neopolitan pizza and it was delish! I'm really impressed by the vast options here. The cases are full of Italian specialties like baked pene, chicken Marsala, broccoli rabe, the list goes on and on. Next to the specialties case is where they make sandwiches to order. In the back there are some hot daily items like meatloaf and mashed potatoes, etc. And then there is the brick oven where they make pizza. There are also specialties items like baked goods, pastas, cookies, pastries, I mean the list goes on and on here. My hubby and I got sandwiches. One godfather, which has Italian meats, cheese, lettuce, tomato and sweet peppers and a Hillside which is chicken cutlet with bacon and melted cheddar and they were both really good. I really enjoyed their hero bread. It's that crunchy on the outside yet doughy on the inside kinda bread. It's delicious. But not as big as I would have expected or I'm use to from other Italian delis I frequent. They use the smaller almost foot long hero bread and they are $9.99 each. I once ordered chicken cutlet and mozzarella (HOT) on a hero and that psychopath put half a jar of mayo on the sandwich. I did not ask for Mayo but for some reason he thought it was okay to serve us a hot mayo sandwich. It was disgusting, inedible, and a complete waste of +$10. He's gotten me and a lot of people I know with these types of mistakes. He doesn't listen to what you want and just gives you whatever he wants. Ordered a Greek salad with grilled chicken on Uber eats. When I opened the salad it had green and red peppers, regular black olives and days old chicken. I called the restaurant and asked them why they added green and red peppers with no kalamata olives I was told "that's how we make it here". Zero customer service. I also asked about the dry chicken. I think this place is great. It seems to get mixed reviews but all of the food I got from here and the customer service I have received have been excellent. Their macaroni salad is the best I've ever had. The chicken Parm, baked ziti, and rice ball were all delicious. I haven't tried one of their pizzas yet but will definitely make it a point to do so. When I went in today the gentleman behind the counter was really nice and made several suggestions for things to get. He was right on all accounts. I tipped him a few bucks and he gave me two rice balls for free just to try them. Such a nice gesture. The food is a little pricey but definitely worth it. The chicken parm was restaurant quality even as I warmed it up in my own oven. I will definitely be back to try more of their stuff. read more

It's not even fair how good this place is. I stepped in one day to order what one might say is an unreasonably large breakfast sandwich. 4 eggs Chicken cutlet Cooked roast beef Bacon Pepper jack cheese Jalepeños Pepper and ketchup On a hero No one gave me a hard time, whined, or grumbled. One guy, however, laughed and said "epic meal time!" The sandwich was better than I had hoped. They even went as far as to slice the chicken cutlet so it would sit in the sandwich better. Obviously a sandwich like this took some time to make but not one ingredient was missing. Most delis I go to rush sandwiches and often miss an item here and there on an order like this. I cannot stress how perfect this sandwich was! On top of that the sandwich was reasonably priced. The environment was great! Everyone was friendly. It's very clean and organized and the selection of foods appears to be very wide. I have only had good experiences with quality of customer service and quality of food. I've lived right by this deli for so many years and have never took the opportunity to try their pizza that I had heard about. Honestly, I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be good, but just like my fellow Yelper said, I saw the place featured on "Restaurant Hunter" and realized I should give it a try. When I went in, the back of the deli has a cute, little pizza parlor-look with pieces of wood on a shelf and a tiny display window with a few slices of pizzas already made. Coincidently, I also ended up with the same slices (chicken bruschetta and a margherita slice) as my fellow Yelper. The margherita slice was relatively tasty, especially in the spots of fresh mozzarella, though I wasn't blown away by their sauce. As for the chicken bruschetta slice, that was a great combination of flavors and one I would order again. Today my daughter wanted me to get her a #2 brick oven panini from Piccolo Gourmet. She was at work in Manhasset and was to get her dinner break at 4:00. I called Piccolo at 2:45 and said I would pick it up at 3:00. I got there and the panini was ready. I got to my car snd something told me to check it. Low and behold it was a #7. I did not open the box- the number was on top. I went back in and told the girl and said it would be remade. The man who was making it starting slicing roast beef, which was not even in the sandwich. He proceeded to make the correct sandwich and then after preparing it- he puts it in the microwave- hello- it's a brick oven panini. When I questioned the girl she said the oven wasn't working. At this point she should have told me that and suggested another item on the menu. Would have been nice to know this when I placed the order. I bring the sandwich to my daughter and ad you can imagine the grilled chicken in the microwave was like rubber. I called and asked for the manager and told the girl who I was- she didn't want to hear it- she said talk to the manager. I left my phone number and expected a call back, but I guess I was asking too much. You try to support the community and shop local and this is a true disappointment. The food is great, but last week when we revisited after a long time and initially being concerned because the door sign said wear a mask and gloves and we just had masks, we were astonished to walk in and see two customers with no masks. The store is not that big so those two people were with six feet of us. The staff all had masks and plexiglass but why did no one asked those two customers to wear masks? I work in New Hyde Park and this is my favorite place to eat lunch! I am there at least once a week! The food is so fresh and delicious! I am totally addicted to it! I love the cobb and seared tuna salads as well as the steak Panini and is amazing! When my co-workers hear where I am going they want me to bring food back for them too! The deli sandwiches are so well prepared as well. The ambiance of the deli is fantastic as well as the friendly people who create all of the wonderful food! Once you are in there, surrounded by the food, which is not only yummy, but beautiful, it is hard to not also get some of the prepared foods or salads for later! Got the Godfather sandwich there, it was somewhat mediocre given how overly chewy the bread was. I'd say the food does not stand out compared to the hundreds of other italian delis in the region, it's not horrible but its probably a tad more expensive. What they make up for in lack of quality is quantity, the sandwich is huge! The okay food is not enough though for me to have given this place a 1 star review (which I have never done until now), but rather because of the behaviors of the disgruntled elderly lady who works there seemed annoyed at my presence when I was paying for the food. Of note, the people actually making the food were very friendly. When she gave me an iced coffee the lid was leaking coffee which got on my tie, and when I returned to simply ask for a napkin she couldn't be bothered, and brusquely directed me to bathroom instead of just giving me a damned napkin. I'm sure times are tough but they don't have to be stingy with their napkins for god's sake!
