Dry roast beef.

It's been the late 80's since I've been to a Puccidilly. But now I remember why I haven't been since then. Just got back from having an early lunch with my daughter. Yuck yuck yuck -- just took a trip back to the '80's at Piccadilly in Raleigh on Stage Rd (across from Burlington) the food was tasteless and just a Nasty experience. My coffee smelled like perfume and couldn't even take a sip! Mac n'cheese watery and no flavor. Small salad had whole tomato wedges that lacked the taste of anything edible and which left no room for lettuce, handmade dressing made from ketchup and mayo, overly sugared potato salad, slightly bacon flavored green beans...and dry roast beef hoping the puddle of juice would make it edible. Never knew one had to "request" a knife so I toiled away with a dull butter to cut the roast with... Needless to say I walked away hungry. My daughter stated her ribeye was cold and her salad was watery. She liked the tea. Had to change booths as the initial bench cushion was so worn it sunk as I sat at the table, ending up on boards.... The place was dark and dingy and quiet as a church in prayer. The cooks serving the food was friendly enough but did not take care not to fill the bowls up with useless broths that spilled onto the tray, and seemed impatient with the elderly hard of hearing. Although I did pay to leave the building, I cannot recommend spending $30 for the food me and my daughter just experienced. I did not leave a tip as nobody came to our table during our entire visit (Yet they visited the tables all around us.) Can honestly say -- YUCK!

Piccadilly gets a firm 3-star review. If you like creating your own meal from a variety of cafeteria selections, this is your place. If you're looking for the fastest service that anticipates your every need, this might not be the place for you. I come to Piccadilly when I want to choose vegetables to satisfy a craving. Today, I need corn. While I was here, I also had broccoli, Lima beans and cabbage. All comfort food. Takes me back to the good ole days when we raised a garden and veggies made up the biggest portion of your plate. For the good veggies and nostalgia and for the lack of great service, Piccadilly gets a solid 3 stars. I don't come often but it's nice knowing it's there when a veggie craving hits.

My order: baked chicken carrot souffle broccoli and rice black eyed peas jalapeno cornbread :-)

For good cafeteria food this place is great! Eat in or get your food to go. Either way it's good.

As usual, the food was cold. I'm not sure I'll give them another chance. I don't understand why they can't do better.

My first time here was an eye opening and very touching experience. While looking for a table I noticed a young patient having lunch that was surrounded by over a dozen people in casual attire, mostly jeans & t-shirts, and I was fairly certain they weren't all her family because of the big variety of ages & origins. I asked my wife (she's an employee) what was going on at their table and she told me those were doctors, lab techs, maintenance & food sevice workers, researchers and IT folks sitting with that smiling little girl. No white coats or fancy suits, just casual, comfy and caring people from all around the campus (most use campus rather than hospital) that were there to just have lunch and share their time. I was deeply moved, in that very poignant moment, and instantly understood that this was much more than a cafeteria. It's a unique and very special place that fosters a real sense of family and a daily reminder to the staff & faculty of the importance of their work & dedication. Cafeterias are hard to find these days and finding one that serves tasty food that's also nutritious is rare indeed. I have a lot of memories in cafeterias throughout my life, from Navy chow halls & ships to years working in hospitals I'm comfy in a cafeteria setting but it's people & the food that make it work. The folks here have nailed it, the place is super clean, it's bright and colorful with child-friendly design snd really nice selection of very tasty and nutritious foods. There's a salad and dessert bar, omelet & sandwich station, hot foods line, sushi and bread station and there's a big selection of prepared foods and lots of pre-packaged snacks & drinks of all kinds and more. I'm a big sushi fan and I'm thrilled that sushi is prepared fresh daily and they take requests and will prepare your roll exactly the way you like it, with a smile. Smiles abound here as they do throughout the campus. The chef, nutritionist and staff of Kay Kafe and St Jude at-large do seem to have a special goodness and wonderfully positive attitude & quite frankly I experience that feeling every time I'm here. Bottom line: Inside this world renowned facility that Danny Thomas founded in 1962 there's chef's, nutritionists and food sevice professionals that prepare, cook & serve some really good food in a pleasant atmosphere at reasonable prices. It all happens surrounded by people who are focused on these very special kids and I look forward to every opportunity to break bread here.

I have decided to join my dad & meet my mom up there for breakfast. As this would be the last chance that I could ever experience Kay Cafe and that it would be nice to have Breakfast with my family. It's always nice to see the Families (patient or staff) & Staff enjoy a meal together. In a peaceful Cleanly environment. The staff of Kay Cafe takes pride in serving their customers whether it would be employees working the registers or the chefs and dietitians working the kitchen. The selection here is above-standard of other hospitals in selection and taste. The prices were very reasonable compared to some of the hospitals I have eaten at when visiting friends and loved ones. I would recommend famiy members that they enjoy a meal from Kay Cafe. It is about as enjoyable as eating at Piccadilly or Luby's. We were seated immediately by a very friendly hostess and then greeted by our waitress. She is clearly someone's Grandma! She was extremely cordial and attentive....just like your Grandma would be if you sat down at her dinner table! The food was delicious and maybe the best ribs I've ever had! The meat was perfectly smoked, with a great Smokey flavor and a rich bark on the outside. I'm talking about sucking on the bones to get that last bit of BBQ taste. My biggest disappointment was we finished everything...no leftovers! If you're ever in Memphis, this is a place to check out and bring your appetite! You can thank me later!

You MUST try the homemade banana pudding which reminded me of my Southern step-mom's recipe. The BBQ beef brisket salad using BBQ sauce as your dressing is scrumptious. It's big enough to split. BBQ sandwiches, platters, and ribs are also options. Note: The brunswick stew has pork and there are non-BBQ items such as burgers on the menu. We'll be back and I highly recommend! Withheld a 5/5 rating since one side's seating area required a very high step up/down which is NOT handicap accessible. The other side seemed accessible.

They serve a rotating menu based on the day of the week. I have been on other days, but I like the side choices best on Mondays. My go to is usually Smothered Pork Chops. My sides vary a bit, but I regularly get Northern Beans, Mac & Cheese, and Cream Corn. There seems to be a sweetness to everything I've eaten. Sometimes it can be a bit much and will sometimes spur my hiatus. Everyone is so friendly here. I've never encountered a single employee that wasn't cheerful and efficient. In all honestly, it's better than most places I go, anywhere in Memphis. It's cafeteria style, so you walk down the line and choose what you want. You can tell how fresh it is before you choose and I dig that. Dining room is good. Watch your step, platforms in and out of the booths. Someone will come get your plate and trash. They are always there to make sure you enjoy your food. I'll be back for sure.

We ordered baked chicken, smothered pork chops and various sides, along with BIG OL' squares of chocolate cake and red velvet cake. Next time we're in Memphis (and if we survive; Memphis has the WORST drivers I've ever seen, and I'm from L.A.) we will definitely go back!

I ordered wings and two dry slabs of ribs. When my family and I finally decided to eat the ribs on Monday, they were disgusting. They had seasoning caked all on them, and they were overly salty. We wiped off the caked-on seasoning and tried to eat around the saltiness. I was praying the 2nd slab was not the same. When I opened them on 5/27 to see, they were the same. I was trying to avoid calling because I just didn't feel like being bothered. But I called. I left a message for the manager to return my call that morning because "he is in the middle of an interview." So I called back that afternoon and was transferred to Ethan. I explained the situation to him. As I was speaking, he kept making the noise un-huh. So, I stopped talking and asked him what it meant aside from it just being rude as hell. He went on to explain that they missed a step and did not rub in the seasoning and shake it off. I don't care. It's an internal quality issue that should be handled with the prep and cook staff. Not me. He asked if I had my receipt and, in a tone that suggested he was doing me a favor, advised me that he would replace the slab. No apologies for the inconvenience or anything.   After my long workday, I went all the way downtown to get the slab replaced. In person, Ethan is just as rude. I asked if he was going to replace both slabs. He could clearly see the quality was trash. He said no and that he would only replace one. Then went on to offer me sides and a slice of cake. No, thank you. I can afford sides and cake just like I did those trash slabs of ribs. Those slabs of ribs cost $62.40 before taxes. With taxes probably being another 5 or 6 dollars. Your mistakes and poor quality should not cost me. He had a young lady bring the replacement slab back out to me. She didn't say thank you or anything. One thing I know is that a white man or woman patronizing your business would not have been treated this way. As a result, moving forward I will spend my Black woman dollars elsewhere on barbeque and smoked chicken wings. Also, I removed you all from my company's approved catering list where we spend a nice amount with you all yearly. Tell Ethan, thanks for helping me see the light and not spend money where I'm not respected and where my customer experience isn't valued.
