This place has been here for a long time. I read that it was originally opened by British immigrants in the 1960s but now ran by a Korean family operator for over 25 years. The owner kept the same menu board offerings, the specialized Welsh fryer and same techniques so its maintained it's authenticity throughout the years. While this fish and chip shop seems to fits well with all the bars on Polk street, I hope that with all the fancy restaurants popping up, people don't forget about these older places. They used to have seating in the back, but on my last visit, they only allow takeout orders. Besides fish and chips, they have fried shrimps, oysters, clams, crabs, scallops, chicken, chips, onion rings, corn dog, zucchini, mushrooms, etc. I usually just get fish and chips but on my last visit, I also got the fried shrimps which I really like. Quaint little old school place that I just had to give a try. Very simple menu that has a varied choice of seafood items along with some chicken items too. The food is hot and fresh, cooked to order in front of you as you wait. The service is quick with no nonsense. Everything here is fried so if you are looking for something baked, grilled or broiled; this place is not for you. They provide malt vinegar and salt for the fries along with hot sauce and other packaged condiments. Be aware, this place is take out only. Hole in the wall, local eatery. We stayed at the Holiday Inn next door. It was evening time and we wanted something local but didn't want to drive. Inside, no where to sit except one chair. Probably never fully opened up since Covid. Little Asian man that my 4 year old reminded her of grandpa. We got an order of fish and chips, coleslaw, and fried oysters. Fish wasn't bad, could use a hefty pinch of salt. Fries were too soggy, but the oysters were good. Coleslaw was ok. Next time I would try the fried clams, IF we ever go back. I've passed by this place for years and finally decided to give it a try. I want to support small hole-in-the-wall businesses and the fact that this has been around for so long it's gotta be pretty good, right? Well... It's to go only, so by the time I got home about 15 minutes had passed, so I understand my fish and chips might have gotten slightly soggy in the box during that time, so I won't fault them for that. But this is the saddest order of fish and chips I've ever had in my life. No seasoning, both fish and chips look under-fried, super pale in color...no tartar sauce included. I was literally the only customer in the shop so you'd think a little more attention would be given. I went to Piccadilly's about 40 years ago and then again about 20 years ago. I had forgotten about their fish and chips until I saw them from the 14th floor of my window at the Holiday Inn on Van Ness and was excited to walk down memory lane. When I got there on a Sunday afternoon, an older guy was there; the place was empty and for a moment I had second thoughts. I ordered 3 pieces fish and chips, but I think the owner charged me for 4 pieces and I got 4 pieces. It was good but I think my tastebuds have changed over the years. I'm not really a deep fried kind of person anymore. I asked for the fries and the fish to be boxed up separately so they wouldn't get soggy. The owner has been around forever, and the food used to be good. I used to get the fish and chips with a side of calamari. I came back after maybe 10 years, but unfortunately, it wasn't how I remembered it. The fish was soggy and lacked flavor, and the fries were just as bad. I took one bite of each and ended up leaving the food outside for someone homeless to take. I really hate giving such a low review because the owner is a genuinely nice and laid-back person. The positive reviews puzzle me. Yes, it is cheap. No, it is not good. Unlike most chip shops I have been to, the fish and potatoes sit in the oil for a very long time. Once out of the oil, the fish and chips are drained but not put anywhere to get more oil off. Despite my attempts to communicate to the cook (and sole employee) my desire for actually crisp potatoes (including miming putting them back when he first took them out), they were soggy, greasy, and under cooked. The fish is a about the thickness of a banana peel and incased in a mountain of tempura batter. Look at some of the more recent pictures on here and you'll see what I mean. Frozen Tilapia is already an inexpensive substitution to the traditional Cod, so to skimp on it after downgrading to Tilapia is just pathetic. The fish as well as the chips were soggy and undercooked, neither were even golden brown. Ok, my daughter just moved into tha Tenderloin and we where looking for something to eat. We were craving fish..and this place was open. When we walked in, the owner (Kang) greeted us with a huge smile that showed through his mask. He explained that the fish they serve is 100% Cod. Great, cause I'm hungry. I ordered the Cod n fries, the Shrimp n onion rings, and an extra order/ al a carte of the Cod. There food was really good and plentiful. The onion ring batter was not clumpy. Tempura style. The fries are cut right there and fried crispy on outside and soft and warm on the inside. The restaurant is small and after Covid will have inside seating, again.
