Fried fish from Vietnam and Chinese crawfish. No, no, no!!
    Mike P.

Years ago my wife and I would frequent Piccadilly in Baton Rouge on occasion for lunch. We stopped going. Today, while passing through Juban's Crossing we thought we would have lunch at the Walk On's but it was very crowded and had more than a 30 minute wait. So we thought about the nearby Piccadilly. Now I recall why we quit doing an occasional lunch at Piccadilly. I deplore restaurants that continue to serve Chinese crawfish- to add to it their "Southern Fried Fish" is from Vietnam! A fish called Sway. We are a coastal state and our restaurants need to support our fishermen by buying local. The manager told be they serve what the purveyor buys. Well change purveyors! So never again Piccadilly.

Baked Fish, Fried Okra, Carrot Souffle, and a Roll

After doing some shopping over at Juban, my mom and I decided to try Piccadilly out. I had not eaten there since the Covid-19 outbreak, and wanted to see what steps they were taking to ensure our safety. There were more than a few patrons there and you could pick where you wanted to be seated. If tables were closed off to maintain social distancing, I didn't see it. All of the employees were wearing masks, including the servers. As I glanced into the restaurant, I could see tables being thoroughly cleaned. There was very little time spent in line, and was able to get the food I wanted and was seated in close to 5 minutes. For my lunch, I had the baked fish, fried okra, carrot souffle, and a wheat roll. This was my first time eating the fish. It was okay, but don't think I would order it again. It was pretty bland, but this seems to be the way all the foods here are prepared. My mom commented that her food was not seasoned at all. The fried okra and the roll were good, but the carrot souffle was amazing. I could have made that a meal in itself. Total bill for my food was $14. We were in and out in around 30 minutes, which we enjoyed being able to do.

I mean WOW! I ordered the turkey wings, rice and gravy and double green beans (I'm trying to eat…read morehealthy lol). Everything was truly amazing. The beans and rice had a great spiced flavor and the stuffed turkey wings were just fall off the bone crazy good. When I was handed my to go order and it is heavier then you expected, you know your going to be happy and satisfied. As far as the service, the ladies behind the counter are just as happy as can be and you are greeted with a warm friendly smile. I wish I was in Lafayette longer because this would be my meal again and again. Yes go here and enjoy one of the best meals you will have.

They only had a few meats left when we got there and one of them was the stuffed turkey wings, which was highly recommended. It was cool, but nothing like I expected. I thought it would be packed with flavor, but I needed that Louisiana red rooster hot sauce for the extra flavor which I thought would have been marinated in the meat. The star of the show was that okra seafood stew. That was a 10 out of 10 for me! We got the cabbage, but I have never in my life had sweet sugary cabbage. That threw me totally off! My brother loved it and it's definitely an acquired taste. Not for me at all. We had about three hours till closing, and there was a small line so the place does great business and people love it. If I were ever back in Lafayette, I would definitely come back to try something different.

I went to this restaurant based on the high reviews from this site as well as other sites that sang…read morethe praises of this restaurant. I drove well over two hours JUST TO GET THERE and once we were there we had to wait until they had enough people to seat a whole table, no problem there. Once we sat and we got to look at the food I was immediately disappointed. A good portion of the items on the table were canned vegetables, black eyed peas, lima beans, green beans, beets, and some sort of canned corn salad. Everything was served in hard plastic bowls that rotated on a dais and was constantly being refreshed/reheated by wait staff. Many of the reviews I read expressed a grand fondness for the fried eggplant. I wasn't so sure about that not a big fan to begin with, but this was also disappointing, crispy on one side, soggy on the other and the sponginess of the eggplant itself was not appealing. There was however, one exceptionally good item on the table that saved this from being a complete and total waste of time. The fried chicken was absolutely outstanding, and I would opt to go back just for that but ONLY if I was in town for something else. There was also an assortment of "desserts" if that is what you can call them. There was a brownie/flourless chocolate cake abomination, some canned banana pudding concoction, there may have been bread pudding, I am not sure, and a slice of pie that disappeared as soon as it was on the dais, it never made its way to me before it was gone. The concept is actually quite unique and the experience was delightful, however the execution falls way short regarding the food. I would love to recommend the restaurant but it you are an adventurous eater, I would tell you to pass on this one as it is not worth getting up early, leaving two hours before the restaurant opens to get there during their paltry hours of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and then having to drive back home with regret and your dinner sitting in your gut like a stone.
