This arugula salad was amazing

We were in town for a few days and got recommended here. We were pleasantly surprised with the ambience, great service and delicious food. There was a nice man that works there named Arturo, who suggested the most delicious appetizer, main course, and dessert! We look forward to coming back next time we visit!

My husband, four-year-old son, and I visited Pianeta on a Wednesday while on vacation in Tahoe/Truckee. The restaurant is two levels, and like most of Truckee, the restaurant is in a restored building. I love this about Truckee! We were promptly seated, and if I recall correctly, Arturo was our server. He was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Pianeta does not offer a children's menu, but they accommodated our son by making him butter pasta with all of the freshly grated parmesan cheese his lil' heart desired. I ordered the potato leek soup and ravioli bolognese. Who orders soup on a warm summer evening? Meeeeee! It was delicious. I was given the option to eat the soup cold or warm, and I chose the latter. My ravioli was enough for two people. I enjoyed it, but I couldn't finish all of it. The meat sauce was so good. The crispy gnocchi that accompanied my husband's steak was a welcome surprise. It was more like fried potatoes, and we both enjoyed the gnocchi! The limoncello pound cake and vanilla gelato was a nice way to end the meal. Pianeta will be a family favorite for years to come.

We are visiting from out of town and found this restaurant on Google. The service was great and the waitresses were very nice and knew the menu well. The ravioli bolognese was delicious, warm and had LOTS of cheese. My boyfriend got the chicken Marsala and it was just as delicious! We would definitely recommend this to anyone stopping in this town for a nice meal.

A beautiful place in downtown Truckee to eat delicious food. We waited 1 hour 45 min to eat here because we didn't have a reservation, so I definitely recommend making a reservation! The two times I've been here, we sat at the bar. We ordered the beef carpaccio, chicken marsala, seafood risotto, and chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. Everything was so good! The food is made to perfection.

Came here for a late dinner date. They get fairly busy, even on weekdays just so you know. We put our names on the list for bar seating and got in after about 45 minutes. But let me tell you, it was well worth the wait! The risotto was hands down one of the best meals I've ever had. So much flavor and loads of seafood! I will forever dream about this risotto. *Cue Seinfeld episode about being satisfied with the risotto* The veal tagliatelle was phenomenal as well and the panna cotta was light weight but satisfying. This place is so romantic and cozy. Can't wait to come back

Had heard wonderful things about this restaurant and it did not disappoint!! Our server was Andrea and she was fabulous!! We started with dirty martinis and the bruschetta, which was delicious!! Salads were great, ravioli was wonderful and the halibut special was scrumptious!! We can't wait to come back again and try more of the great food!!! Loved the cozy atmosphere too!!!

Great Italian restaurant in the downtown Truckee area, with some small hiccups. The ambiance is nice with a downstairs bar area and an upstairs dining area. There is parking available in front of the restaurant. The reservation process is a hassle. You can book a reservation online but you are required to leave a $25 deposit/person. If you need to change the reservation- good luck calling the restaurant and actually getting ahold of them. We left many voicemails that were left unreturned. I was also surprised by the required deposit. Many local high-end restaurants don't even require a deposit like that. The staff were incredibly friendly. The service was quick and attentive. The food was good as well. However, I don't think the prices are worth it and I found it to be quite steep. We started with the Bruschetta and Caprese - both of which were great. I really liked the pesto and balsamic sauce on the Caprese. Two people at our table ordered the Ravioli Bolognese as the entree, which I thought was good. It was pretty cheesy on top but I still liked it. The other two people at our table got the Grilled Sausage and Tagliatelle and seemed to like it. The desserts have an interesting twist to them. We got the Chocolate Polenta Puddle Cake which is essentially a lava cake with the texture of polenta and we got the Tiramisu which was akin to the classic way it's served. I liked both of the desserts. Looks like the menus need to be updated. For example, the website says the Tiramisu is $12 (menu says $15) and the Chocolate cake on the website is $12 but the menu says $14). Prices must be continuously increasing!

We had our New Year's dinner here. We were a family with two children, one is 2 years old and the other is 6. You charged full price for kids, but both children only ate pasta with meat sauce. No one informed us that even if the kids only had pasta, they would still be charged the full price. If we had known this in advance, we would have made a different decision. Charging over $100 for a 2-year-old who only ate a small plate of pasta makes absolutely no sense. On top of that, the service did not meet the standard expected for a New Year's dinner. We ordered wine pairing, but the wines were never served together with the courses. Most of the time, the wine arrived when we were almost finished eating. What exactly was being "paired" then? We are very willing to spend money on a New Year's dining experience, but the service and value should at least match the price. This experience felt extremely disappointing and unreasonable.

1 Star The location is great- right on the Main in Downtown Truckee 1 Star The food was good. 1 Star The service was good. 1 Star The ambiance was good, typical bistro 1 Star The service AT THE BAR was good MINUS 1 Star The service at the front of the house and the reservation process Here is my story: Reservation line 2.5 months out. They are not on Open Table or Resy. Someone said they are on Stripe or Podium not sure... RANT: You can wait for a table OR you can stand in line for one of 14 seats at the bar where you can wine and dine. (OK- can you tell that's what we did?) Was it worth it? Well, the food, service and ambiance was ok BUT there were folk trying to cut into the wait line for the wait line seat at the bar. Now, about this line, it starts to ramp up around 4:30 pm in anticipation of the 5:00 pm door opening. Remember now 14 SEATS!!!! (This couple cuts in the line and ousted another couple., Fortunately, that ousted couple are Truckee residents and chose not to make an issue as they all the days in the world to wait for seat at the bar.. How nice is that? OK Rant DONE Food was decent. There were 4 of us so we each selected one dish and we shared... so we could taste as many dishes possible. They offer a plate of warm french/sourdough bread with a neat oil and vinager carafe... Meat Balls, Duck, Ravioli, Salad, and oh, let me not forget; we had to try their pizza. All dishes delivered and served well as well as tasted great! I need to admit though, unless I was organized enough to make a reservation 2.5 months out I doubt I stand in that line again. Too much wait line drama for me. Happy Eating!

100% all of the YES! Pianeta is gold. Most times of the year you better make sure you have a reservation in advance, unless you want to try your luck for an empty bar seat. Pianeta makes their own pasta. Pianeta has great specials. Pianeta is an intimate venue. Pianeta is all if the things that you want in gourmet Itialian food. Cocktails are fabulous. And service is unrivaled.

Can't say enough great things about this yummy Italian restaurant. We always end up sitting at the bar and the service is great. The wine list is very good with some fun deliberate Italian inspirations. The pasta dishes are good and I'm working my way though the menu. The tiramisu should be paired with coffee because it is so rich! Make a reservation to guarantee you can experience a meal when you're in town.

The door was a freezer door and then you walk in to the actual bar itself. This is not a bis bar but spacious enough. We walked in and were sat by the booth all the way in the front by the music artist. It was actually so cool how they had the artist who was playing a saxophone, then the guitar then he can also sing and had a good voice. My major feed back with our experience is how the service was slow. We did have a big party, but what was crazy was that there was only one bartender. Mind you there was a host where you walk in and they count how many guest are there. The other person who helped at the bar did not come in until later and I'm not even sure if she actually helped out. Anyways, all their drinks I believe were the same price. I ordered the oasis which was really refreshing and tangy which I really liked. My bf ordered the tales of bourbon which unfortunately he did not like. Even our other friend who ordered the same thing did not like the bourbon. I do think the majority of our group enjoyed their drink. I would definitely say a nice spot to try and highly recommend it.

I entered and sat at the bar because the place was busy and it was a 20 minute wait. I ordered the special. The appetizer was Seared Scallops with a coconut cream polenta. The scallops were done right seared on both sides and the polenta was creamy and full of flavor. Then came the Spaghetti Bolognese which I was looking forward to. It looked appealing but once I tried it the flavor was not what I expected. It was a meat sauce but not a traditional bolognese. It had a different flavor with no tomatoes I think it was mainly wine based. Unfortunately I was expecting a traditional bolognese and it threw me off. And I asked for bread and they didn't have any. I took the dessert home a yellow cake with cream and a raspberry sauce. It was very good. The main thing I'm disappointed with is the Spaghetti Bolognese being not a traditional bolognese. I have eating breakfast here before and it was quite good.

I'll say right off, I'm giving them 4-stars since I had time to just grab one drink and a snack. I'm sure when I come back and can hang out for longer, the next review will easily bump up to the 5-star level. Firstly, this is a cool hole in the wall, very nice ambiance, and set back in a way that makes it feel a bit like a speakeasy. The decor is very stylish and atmospheric, with plenty of comfy chairs and spaces at the bar, and the staff were quite friendly. And while I'm not the biggest fan of these in here, the bar has many countertop video poker machines, should you be inclined to play. This is a full bar, so they have plenty of selections for wine, beer, and spirits. But the main attraction are their house cocktails. Only had time to try one on this visit, but that Saffron Sazerac was very interesting indeed, and definitely makes me want to swing by and try more of their menu. And should you need something to snack on, they also have a small menu of bar bites, which is just enough to hit the spot. And as for prices, I found them pretty darn reasonable, especially given this is Tahoe, we're talking about. So yeah, all said, I have been fairly impressed with Gaviota. Definitely going to keep them on my short list of drinking spots on North Shore, and I think anyone looking for a classy beverage will love it here too. Hope to swing by again soon.
