Pianeta is consistently great! From the time you walk inside and are greeted by the friendly hostess, the restaurant feels comfortable and homey. The food is simply delicious and I like that they keep several mainstay dishes on the menu. Honestly, there's no way to go wrong with a selection but a couple of my favorites are the Chicken Marsala and the Ravioli Bolognese. The Winter Caprese is an absolute must when it's in the menu. We have a history of coming here every year on our anniversary. As usual, the food was fantastic. We had the steak with the spinach and onions and the potato gnocchi. We just love the gnocchi. We got our table in the downstairs booth, which is what we always strive for. It creates a very cozy atmosphere here. The service was great and we also had a fantastic Caesar salad. OMG. What a cool place. We came up from Reno for the evening and to grab a nice dinner. Well, this place rocks. We came in and were told we had to wait an hour. So we did. The hostess was very nice and kept us informed. We were waiting for a couple to leave from the outside table. They were done eating and paid their bill and just sat there. They knew we were waiting, but they just sat there. The hostess came out again and told us that a spot was about to open at the bar. I live sitting at the bar. It so happens that the couple did us a huge favor. We got 3 seats at the bar. The bartender was awesome. He gave us some great recommendations. He also said the chefs special, pork chop, CARNE, was really good. So we all ordered the same thing. We started with the cauliflower soup. The soup had an Awesome taste. Nice start. We then got the CARNE and OMG, what flavor. Idk what they did, but man, was it good. Everything complimented everything. The meat, the Vegi, the orzo. All was awesome. Possibly the best food in north shore. Service was good and ambiance was pleasant. It was a little loud and not necessarily a place for kids which is totally ok with me. Prices are a little high for Tahoe but I guess all these places are now catering to Bay Area people however that is unfortunate for the rest of people who visit. read more

This is easily the best Italian in Truckee, and very possibly the best restaurant in general. Amazing service, ambiance, and everything on the menu is absurdly delicious (I couldn't stop thinking about the ribeye for two days afterwards). Homemade pasta, extremely impressive wine selection/knowledge, and amazing cocktails to boot. You'll almost definitely need a reservation for a table, but you can also put your name down specifically for a bar seat. The food is great but their motto seems focused on maximizing the restaurant business, and not customer experience. There are little things that suggest this, such as - extremely strict reservations - the menu declares a "no phone policy" so you can focus and finish your meal within 90 minutes - instead of complimentary bread, it's $2 for "6 slices" - they charge $2 if you want to share a pasta or secondi - the menu explicitly has a "round of beers for the kitchen staff" option at $25 (the most I've seen elsewhere is $10) Understand they are a small shop with only 14 tables, but all the explicit reminders were off-putting. Nevertheless, the actual service was fast and hospitable. Highly recommend the ragu - complex dish with several proteins yet everything was cooked perfectly, and the broth divine. Ok so I found this place on yelp and tried to make a reservation online. I tried to call the place and no Luck! So we decided to head there on a whim hoping to be able to get in! We quickly found out this place SELLS OUT EVERY NIGHT!! We put our name on a waiting list in hopes of being able to get one of the 14 walk in spots they have available and it's bar seating! All I can say is it's TOTALLY WORTH THE WAIT!! The service - the drinks - the atmosphere - the staff - the food - AND DESSERTS - EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING!! After a long day of floating down the river, we decided to go out to a late dinner and luckily when we sat down at the bar they said we had five minutes to order, So we did! 3 of us shared a fabulous Caesar salad with anchovies on the side. Amazing! Crisp, cold and tasty! Then we each ordered the pasta de olio and 2 of us added sausage. So delicious and big portions. We all got to enjoy our leftovers today. I love this spot so much. Located in downtown Truckee, I've never had a bad meal here! This last visit was no different. We ordered mainly from the specials menu which included a summer corn ravioli, the mahi special (with the most incredible sauce), the pork special, the arugula salad, and the nectarine tart for dessert. We also ordered a ceasar salad, that's a staple on the menu. I'd call their menu an elevated top quality Italian experience. Nothing is boring or heavy - it's all well balanced, yummy flavor designs, and a pretty presentation! The ambiance is quaint and cozy. It's a small selection of seating - an area down below (just a few steps down from entry door) and another seating area a floor above. This upper floor, looks down onto the restraint below! There's also a long beautiful bar to sit that stretches along most of the bottom floor. Reservations are recommended but sometimes people will just show up when they open to put their names down for later. Walk-ins are possible but not likely on weekends. We came two years ago for our anniversary dinner and had an amazing meal. We decided to repeat it last week and the food quality has gone down. Service was wonderful and our waiter was attentive. Both our cocktails were good and the winter caprese salad was delicious. Then we had the $50 halibut and a pasta dish. I'm fine with paying $50 for a great halibut but this was not it. We had amazing service from everyone and it was so fun when we bought beer for the staff (it's an option on the menu) and they ring a bell and the staff all cheer. It's a cool touch for such a high end restaurant, that makes it feel laid back and not stuffy. Talk about finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Pianeta was a last-minute decision by my wife and I. Turned out to be the best decision we could've made. Our waitress, Stephanie, was incredibly nice and knew the menu so well. We went with the ragu which was full of flavor and delicious. The agnello, which is lamb chops, was absolutely perfect! It was a perfect medium rare and the accompanying ravioli was a great addition. We had their tiramisu for dessert, no picture because we ate it really quickly. We happened to stop here after the glowing reviews on Yelp, in a search for something to eat. I'll start off with what I really liked about this place - the ambiance and the service. The restaurant is kind of a split level, where only the hostess is at the platform upon entry, then you take a few steps down into the bar area. If you go up from the hostess stand, there's a whole separate section just for dining. We got seated promptly and our server was very nice and knowledgeable. We ordered the tomato basil soup and the seasonal salad as an appetizer (The seasonal salad had peaches, almonds, goat cheese, and almonds on a bed of arugula. The tomato basil soup was good, but I wish it had a little more heartiness, depth, and flavor. The salad was perfect, good mix of sweet and savory. For our main course, I got the pasta Bolognese and my mom got the Ragu. My gripe with the pasta here is that they advertise the pasta as fresh made, but I felt like the pasta was a little overdone, soft, and tasteless. It lacked salt, so I added a heaping spoonful of parmesan to the already-shaved parmesan in the dish, (which is brought out as the powdered version, but would have had a nice touch if it was freshly shaved). The Ragu was nice, but the grilled polenta on it was very charred and just tasted burnt. Lastly, I asked for some bread to eat with the sauce and they charged for bread, which I felt was a little nickel and dime-y. We finished off with the tiramisu, which was just ok (it's usually my favorite dessert!) It had a heavy taste of just cream - no real taste of espresso and/or the mascarpone tasted more like whipped cream than mascarpone. I would be open to possibly trying other dishes at this location, however, it fell a little short for an Italian restaurant from my experiences. read more

The food is very delicious I will say and the environment but sadly the staff and the management I had the last couple visits I had here really made me disappointed. I have gone to this place a lot since I have a cabin not too far and I always use to go to this place after a nice ski day or just for a romantic night. After having waiters constantly mess up My order and then when confronted about there mess up, it somehow always ended up sorta being my fault in some way. My last stray was with speaking to the manager there, and explaining how I have had issues with my orders being wrong not once but a couple times back to back by the same waiter. I got a look from the owner as if it was a ridiculous situation when in fact, I never got an apology or at least some type of response that he cared. I've worked in the food industry first hand and I understand mistakes happen but this was really a shame. You lost my businesses read more
