Lovely inside
Emily C.

Looking for somewhere nice and local to take someone for lunch today, we happened upon the Phoenix Park Hotel Cafe. I must admit, I would never have previously considered 'wining & dining' anyone around the Park Gate area. Despite the implied grandeur of the association with the Phoenix Park gate, this area has never quite fulfilled it's potential in the style stakes (or any other stakes really, let's face it...). But with the facelift of the Ashling Hotel, and the general gentrification of the Stoneybatter area, the only thing surer than death and taxes, is the gathering of new eateries around the area. It looks like the cafe has been done up in recent times, with a beautiful light-filled glass ceiling and a lovely big window seat you could probably fit about six people on. Lunch is a bargain. €7 each. I got a toasted brie, bacon & chicken sandwich, with a truck-full of chips, and, - the cuteness - a little mini shot of tomato soup for dipping. My lunch date got a Thai red curry. They were both immense and delicious. We had two servers, one that was pretty keen on getting outa the joint (which he did fairly lively), and the second dude who was full of the joys of spring. I guess if I was nearing the end of my shift, I'd be pretty keen on not being keen too, so will let them away with that. All in all, it's cracking value for a nice setting and great food.

Great place, great location within waking distance to Heuston station and easy transit access to city center.

Kilkea Castle Hotel - Cool huh

Kilkea Castle Hotel

We had one castle room and one carriage room for our stay. Both rooms were quaint and well maintained. The gardens around the property are gorgeous and wonderful to explore during nice weather. The only thing to note is that in off-season the main restaurant is only open on the weekends and the tea service is not available during the week. While we enjoyed the food at Hermione's, the day we stayed there was a group event closing the main restaurant so we had to eat in the bar area. Most of the activities are off the property which wasn't very clear as we approached the date of our stay. We ended up visiting the National Stud Farm (about 30 minutes drive) and the clay pigeon shooting (about 40 minutes drive). Highly recommend both activities and really appreciate the staff helping us arrange these activities. The downstairs bar area is open late with a delicious charcuterie and board games are available to use by the fireplace which was a fun way to spend the later evening hours. Highly recommend staying at Kilkea Castle Hotel!

The property itself is stunning. Plenty to do between golf, the spa, the gym, bird flying, walking around and great food plus drinks. We made the 30 minute ride to the outlet malls and loved that also. The proper Irish breakfast to start everyday was amazing! I wish they would bring that to the states. Thanks again for the hospitality! Cheers

Most hotels offer shower only rooms after remodeling. Breakfast in the hotel was amazing; included fresh fruits and juices, the traditional Irish entrees or you could opt for pancakes. You rub this on your wrists or neck before bed and it is supposed to relax you and promote better sleep. It smells so good.

I asked him are there any decent people left in Ireland and I was given a snigger as a reply. I'm quite disappointed that I was treated like this customer service and a small budget compassion needs to be addressed by Management. I am in the hospitality business myself and if any of my staff treat any customer with such coldness and lack of concern, I would be deeply upset. the first that people see on arrival and departure and I really feel that this gentleman has left down my overall experience shall I say is not the best.

For the price, my hotel room smelled awful and it was super noisy from the HVAC outside. I would take the noise of Temple Bar over that. I wasn't really impressed with the decor. Everything was plain and bland. It lacked charm. It was ok but I will look for another option on my next Dublin trip.

We arrived from an overnight flight at roughly 9:30 a.m. and they were still prepping rooms but they stored our luggage and recommended a location to grab something to eat which was very good. Upon returning about 45 minutes later our room was ready and we found the room to be meticulous with a very comfy king bed, mini fridge, tv, and ample size bathroom. I saw a few other reviews that stated the bathroom doors would not stay open but I learned that is by design and we just asked for an extra towel that we used to prop the door open when needed. It serves to point out that the entire hotel is under a complete remodel so many of the rooms and features of the hotel are shinny new. They do offer breakfast in the morning and for the evening they do have a restaurant and bar. Just walk out the front door if you want a livelier crowd and more restaurant options The location of the hotel is prime as it offers proximity the River Liffey, plenty of shops, pubs, and attractions. We walked to the Jameson (25 min walk) and Guinness (30 min walk) factories as it also gave us the ability to take in things along the walk. You are close to Trinity College and both St Patrick's and Christ Church Cathedrals. lastly, I cannot say enough about the staff, Anne at the front desk was a warm and inviting pleasure and very professional, Marvin the concierge and bellman was super helpful and pleasantly informative, the house staff was attentive and always looking to make sure we were comfortable. The Brooks comes with my highest recommendation.
