I run a company that does communication work with nonprofits that serve impoverished and marginalized people in the US and around the world. We recently worked with PrintWest on a print and mail job (mailing small packets to hundreds of US locations). This was time sensitive so we repeatedly asked for first-class mailing and reiterated our condensed time frame. When it came time to do the mailing, our PrintWest rep chose to use a cheaper mailing method - despite our previous asks about first-class service and timing. Packets did not get to the recipients on time, and our client relationship was severely strained. That's bad. What's worse is that I confronted our sales rep Greg about this several times via telephone and email. I requested a refund of the mailing costs only (print job and costs were fine), since we should not have to pay to have our client relationships strained by the mistakes of a vendor. I've never received a response on my repeated requests - not a "absolutely let's make this work for you" or we're working on it" or a "we can't do it and here's way." Just radio silence. This is no way to treat loyal customers. I still think that PrintWest does a good job printing, and they're Seattle local and usually easy to work with. But apparently if they mess up, they're not willing to take responsibility or even respond to inquiries. That's enough for me to be done.

Every year, our firm sends out holiday cards to clients. Rather than pick and choose from the…read moreplethora of expensive, generic corporate (lame) holiday cards available, my boss is privy on sending out custom designed cards bearing our brand. For the past couple years, I have been tasked with designing them in-house. Originally the plan was to print them in-house, but with a job of this magnitude and a looming deadline, I had to outsource the printing. So with a CD-R containing the .EPS files, I sought the services of George at Swifty Printing. I needed 1200 full color front and back cards, printed, trimmed and folded in half. George was accommodating in the fact that we would be supplying our own paper which was purchased at Paper Zone beforehand. Gave me a quote which was well under budget and told me to come back tomorrow for a press check. Awesome! Press check was perfect, the color was spot-on and looked amazing considering they came off a digital press. A couple of days later I came back to pick up the job: 1200 cards printed, trimmed, folded, shrink wrapped and bundled in one box. Stuffing them into envelopes on the other hand still needs to be done in house however. Thank God for interns! My dealings with George and Swifty Printing couldn't have been any better. George is a real stand-up guy and looks out for all his customers, big and small. If you need a print job, take it to George!
