A special thank you to Saskia, who was excellent throughout the entire planning process--so helpful, responsive, and easy to work with. Levi, our host for the evening, was wonderful--kind, attentive, and made sure everything ran smoothly. And Sherill, the bartender, was fantastic--she made amazing drinks, and we loved that we were able to bring our own alcohol. The venue itself is beautiful, with plenty of space for guests to enjoy comfortably. The handmade wooden tables added such a unique and elegant touch. The venue itself is beautiful with a great layout -- it was the perfect setting for my wife's birthday party. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the staff. The bartender had a very dry attitude, and the on-site manager came across as rude and unprofessional throughout the night. We were even told to dispose of the last trunk of garbage ourselves because their bins were full. While several of us stayed late to help clean and move furniture back, the manager questioned one of our guests about a trash bag she had provided, as if he were doing something wrong -- when he was only trying to help. Overall, the space is great, but the people you're left to deal with could use more professionalism, appreciation, and customer service. read more

This is my home office away from home. I love coming here to get my coffee and sink in a few hours of work time. The environment at Phoenix is really good for focus work. You can stay in the main area or find a cozy nook to really dig in. The noise level is low and everyone is very respectful. I appreciate this locally owned business, I have talked with both owners and know they have out so much heart and soul in creating this space. I tried this location out for the first time recently and they were accommodating to new visitors. The space was quite large with several conference rooms, private rooms, and phone booths. In addition there are open spaces where visitors can set up their work station. There is also a kitchen and snack station where you can make your own coffee, grab fruits/pastries and water during your break. While I spent the day there, I didn't feel secured leaving my stuff around so a suggestion would be to have day lockers somewhere. Otherwise, this was a perfect set up to take meeting calls, set up an onsite meeting, or go in a booth for more privacy. read more

Two friends and I recently held our 50th birthday celebration at the Phoenix. It was amazing. The location and the people we worked with to make the event happen exceeded our expectations. As a professional photographer, I've had the opportunity to work at Phoenix several times, and had great experiences each time. Most recently, I booked the main room and conference room for a business/lifestyle photo shoot. Rachel at the front desk was extremely accommodating. Whether it was move art, rearrange furniture, or answer questions I had about what would work best for the shoot, she was willing to go the extra mile. Big Plus: it was all very reasonably priced. The other shoots I did there were for events: an engagement party, a maternity party, a 40th birthday party... Each time the staff was very helpful, and there's enough space to set up not only a photo set for posed photos, but also tables for dinner, and a floor for dancing. There's also a nice little outdoor area off to the side. All in all, it's a great space not only for coworking, but also for events, photo shoots, and pretty much anything you can think of. It's a great venue for an event as my son and his fiancee held their baby shower there recently for about 60-70 people! The venue is beautiful with a counter to put the drinks, chairs and tables, and a smaller room which is open air and very comfortable. Bathrooms are clean and place is cozy. Parking didn't seem to be a problem on a Saturday as everyone was able to find parking. read more

My family and I had my father's celebration of life ceremony at the Phoenix last week. We are extremely happy with how everything went. The Phoenix staff was super helpful with all of the planning. I worked closely with Ms. Saskia Winter, the founder. We exchanged many emails and she was always responsive and answering all of my questions, which helped a lot. I also visited the venue twice. The staff, (Julie, Artie, and Lakisha) on the day of the event was also super helpful. Things went smooth once the event started. The space was intimate which made it easy for people to connect and mingle. We had food set up and a few decorations. I'm happy we decided to use the Phoenix to remember and honor my father. Phoenix is an event space near downtown Alameda, that you can rent out for your special event. It has several larger rooms to use, and many smaller rooms that serve as artist spaces or small offices for more long term rental during the week. The event I came to was for about 50 people for a 40th birthday party on a Saturday night in summer. The first 2 main rooms were used, one for kiddie entertainment with a gated outdoor patio section, and the larger main room was for the adults and buffet food, There was a fortune teller in one of the rear rooms, too! The site manager/event coordinator Jessa was accommodating to everyone, and was actually on site for 4+ hours to make sure the party had everything they needed. The sight isn't a fancy modern place. It is an older glass store front and has a very relaxed vibe, and much of the furniture was odds and ends or eclectic antique type stuff. They were very flexible on arrangements and set up, keeping in mind your needs. If you ever run out of snacks or drinks for your party, there is a 7 Eleven practically next door. And if you spill and make a mess onto your clothing, their is a coin laundry next door, too! Lol! read more

Holy cow, this place is life changing! Like a lot of folks, I've been WFH since covid. Had a baby during covid and just got used to life hunkered down at home. I realized how much businesses have opened up recently and it hit me how much I needed to get out of the house. After trying to work out of local coffee shops and libraries, the unreliable internet and loud surroundings started to get frustrating. On a whim, I looked up nearby coworking spaces and stumbled upon this Alameda gem. Benjamin answered my phone call and invited me in the same day for tour, and voilà, easy peasy, I was set up in 15 minutes. The space is cozy, clean, and inviting. My productivity level and quality of life has drastically improved. There is plenty of private and open space; there's an app where you can easily get into the building and reserve conference rooms or phone booths. They also serve fruit, homemade baked goods, and the coffee hits the spot. I also like that rates are prorated by month and can be cancelled at any time. Came here for a friend's baby shower. It's by Jim's Coffee Shop and across from the Alameda Library (if you're familiar with the area). Parked at a meter in front and it was Sunday so it was free. Nice space that fits probably about 50-60 people. Noticed the maximum capacity sign inside says 49 but there's a small outdoors area too with a bullseye and darts! There are some couches, paintings and tables inside the space. Clean unisex restroom with a kind of warped mirror that makes you look wide and short lol. My only complaint is that there was no AC so it was super hot and uncomfortable. read more

The Phoenix team was fantastic to work with to plan and host my 50th birthday party! From the moment I walked in the door and met owner Saskia, I felt like she "got" my concept and had great ideas for making it a special evening! I loved that they have a guest portal where all of our communications were tracked and payments were made. My party was a disco theme, so rented their huge disco ball, and brought in pink and purple uplighting to make it a dance party vibe. We also rented the adjacent gallery space which was perfect for the balloon wall and an area for teens to chill away from the dance floor. Saskia suggested renting their photo booth package, and my guests had an awesome time taking the little modern polaroid pics! Their party host, Artie, was awesome and made sure the event ran smoothly! Their recommended bartender was also reliable, amazing with the guests and did a great job. One of my good friends rented out this space for his birthday, the venue has a workplace feel to it, small offices in the back, in the front Large welcoming area, bar type area, and tvs set up throughout the building, on the right hand side there is a gated area which was used as a kids area, for coloring, painting, blowing bubbles, pretty much anything that would keep a baby to 12 year old busy, they did also allow you to access their wifi which was a plus if some kids just want to play games or watch there favorite tv show on there ipad or mobile device The venue is bright inside, well ventilated, high ceilings, hard wood floors, set up was neat, bathrooms were clean, all around good place to host a small get together or maybe your closest 40 friends with all their kids. As you step in from the busy street outside, you're instantly surrounded by an airy, warm, spacious, and artful space. Personally, I love the feel of woods and earth elements mixed in with abstract and colorful works of art. The space offers various 'stations' to work. The main front area offering a quiet 'library' style vibe. Each day there is amazing Max's coffee offered on drip or your espresso drink of choice. Two days of the week there are freshly baked goods to enjoy with your amazing brewed coffee. Heaven. Within the space is closed off conference room area, and two operate 'phone booths'. All spaces offer all your computer hardware needs. Behind the main room is a large offering of communal, sectioned off, office spaces. There are also areas to come together, and also nap. There is SPACE, people. All beautifully designed. Especially the the Writer's Room. No to the folks who manage the space: the most amazing people!! Not that one would expect much else from such an amazing and gorgeous space! Emily is by far the most kind, helpful, and friendly person I've met within the customer service industry. Admittedly, she's now a personal friend that I love to bounce ideas off of, brainstorm, and feel excited about sharing experiences together. Four months ago I joined PHOENIX, a local co-working provider that had recently opened up in my hometown of Alameda, CA. I joined for free late last year, and tried it out with my colleague Marissa. Usually on Fridays we work from home. But both of us prefer to be somewhere with a bit of productive conversation happening around us, so sometimes we go to cafes separately, sometimes we go together, and sometimes she comes over to my house. We had an interesting experience at PHOENIX that first time. They had just opened and were working out some service design kinks. They were clearly trying to keep sound to a minimum, so they whispered a million first-time user instructions to us. I wish I'd been able to read it all online -- or at least talk to them more on the phone about it ahead of time, because it was really awkward for me & Marissa to have to listen to so much whispering when we had such a limited time to spend working together. Today was much better. I bought the hour online in advance, came by myself, already had an account to check in to... and while some host-instruction-whispering did happen, I got a free glass of wine out of it! Friday 4-5pm happy hour for the win. My first visit with Marissa was free to try out the conversational space for 90 min. It wasn't the greatest that time of year: drafty, not the most comfy, we couldn't speak at normal volume, and yeah, that whole whispered / too-long sign up process was annoying. And so, I had low expectations for today's visit. But after my hour-long co-working sojourn at a communal table, with a quietly typing stranger sitting kitty-corner to me, that cost $5, I was very pleasantly surprised. Productive and chill. And did I mention the free glass of white wine? Here's why it's better than a coffee shop: - they have happy hour - people are nice and quiet - there's no espresso machine with the dreaded milk steamer constantly screeching in the background - the tables are nice knotty pine, the chairs swivel and have high backs there are power strips adhered to the undersides of tables, placed every 4 feet or so Yay PHOENIX! read more

This place is fantastic. I recently was visiting from out of town and had to be in the Oakland area and needed a workspace for a full day. The Phoenix was perfect. It's a charming place that feels warm and comfortable yet fresh & contemporary. They have indoor work areas and a nice outdoor workspace. I had several zoom calls and their telephone booth was just what I needed. The staff are VERY friendly and VERY helpful. The owner Benjamin is very thoughtful. There is a great local market within 2 blocks that has excellent food options. I needed a change of scenery from the library so I came over to Phoenix to get some work done. The space is quite nice and the woman manning the front desk was extremely thorough in her tour. There is a mix of different types of workspace depending on the level of noise you prefer. I spent most of the time in the main workspace which serves as more of a library, and I found everyone there was super respectful of the area in maintaining the minimal noise level. There are a lot of amenities that definitely add a nice touch to the space: coffee with an option for fancier espresso drinks (they have almond milk ftw!), as well as snacks such as nuts, fruit, and tea. Phoenix is conveniently located near Park St, and everything was easy and convenient which made working here all the more smooth and seamless! read more

Patronize this establishment! My internet went down and I last-minute needed a place to work remotely. Even though the owners were in the middle of an emergency themselves they were very kind and and accommodating and not only got me up and running quickly, but were very attentive and flexible with my needs as I was struggling a bit being displaced from my home office.
