We held a day-long conference at Oakstop on Telegraph and I was really impressed. From the outside, you wouldn't expect how spacious it actually is inside. The main event room worked perfectly for our group, and having the kitchen area right there was convenient for breaks. Staff was helpful and responsive when we needed anything. The location on Telegraph is also super accessible. Would definitely recommend Oakstop for events or coworking. A while back, we coordinated with Simon here at Oakstop to reserve space for our table read. The place was absolutely gorgeous, quiet, clean, and more importantly secure. The cast & crew enjoyed the area so that we could rehearse scenes from Ghosted, which is now available on sites like Tubi (https://link.tubi.tv/evpZji8i5Mb). I've never directly rented from OakStop so I can't comment on the pricing. I've participated in events in the different rooms and OakStop and I consider it a convenient space for hosting events. The rooms are large, clean and in a good location close to BART and some AC Transit lines. I know some some small business owners and nonprofits who use their space regularly, I'd recommend it to those who don't want to rent and/or maintain their own office space. read more

I like this place! It's casual yet very professional with a big dose of community on top. My tour and follow up work day were flawless experiences. It's not a "quiet" place to work but if I put my noise cancelling headphones on it's all good. The one issue I had with with the "ear bud phone talkers". You know, people that haven't figured out how to remove one earpiece so you don't yell at the top of tour lungs while on the phone. I had my headphones on blast and could still hear every word the woman across the room was saying in her conference call. Several of us just looked at each other expecting a staff member to handle it but... meh... Other than that small issue I love this joint and will def be renting a monthly work area. read more

My video production & animation team has held an office at Oakstop for about 5 months now, and it is definitely a wonderful community. The communal working space is large and open with lots of natural light streaming in through the wall of windows. There's free coffee & tea provided by local businesses, and Thursdsays have been dubbed "Cupcake Thursdays" thanks to a local baker who supplies incredible flavors along with vegan / gluten free options. Rates are very competitive, internet is fast, and there's an event nearly every evening - so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with something that interests you. You'll meet plenty of people, and we've even seen business opportunities arise from within these walls. It's a great place to be, and they're working hard to build a resilient, successful Oakland co-working community where entrepreneurs, teams, and like-minded folks can come together and get work done comfortably. read more

I worked with Oakstop to host my agency's all staff retreat. We booked the Telegraph gallery suite. Planning the last week got a little chaotic, causing me to have to call their staff sometimes multiple times a day leading up to the event with questions and last minute changes and requests. I was pleased with how helpful and patient their staff was each time I called. I decided to do a site visit two days before the event which turned out to be really helpful. The staff person who helped me out was just as patient and supportive as the others who assisted me on the phone. The space is awesome and very unique. It blends the artist performance space and tech startup culture with Oakland's edginess and beauty. You get the professionalism and capacity to get high level work done but without the pretentiousness and sterileness of a traditional tech work setting. Cost was also pretty reasonable and probably much cheaper than comparable spaces. Our work event went as smoothly and perfectly as could be imagined. Only minor drawbacks to the space were a lack of good air circulation on the second floor and the minor inconvenience of having all 60 of us having to be buzzed in. It would also be great if they could invest in a bigger refrigerator since so many of the members use it to store their lunch and it's nice to have space to chill drinks for events. All in all I had a great experience here and wouldn't hesitate to come back and rent the space for a future event. read more

I work here a day a week or so and it's the perfect place to break up the schedule. People who work from home know how distracting it can be sometimes to work where you sleep. They have various membership tiers that are extremely affordable. In fact I'm pretty sure they have easily the cheapest drop in rates of any coworking place in the bat area, like $15. I don't have a membership that provides a dedicated desk but I've never had a problem finding a spot to sit. The place is perfectly located surrounded by a bunch of great food/drink options and it's a block away from the free bike valet. read more

I visited Oakstop several times in the last few months, using some of the room space for rehearsal. The staff is friendly and there are plenty of rooms around the space. The acoustics aren't great and sound carries from room to room pretty easily. A couple times there were dancing groups above us and it was pretty hard to focus. That being said, performing space is pretty hard to come by, and this space was right next to the 19th Street BART station, so that's hard to beat. read more

Oakstop is a decent size space. It's across the road from 19th st Bart Station so location is ok. The meeting we had held almost 50 people and chairs were provided. The couches were comfy & Its a pretty simple space and it serviced its purpose. Parking is metered or there's a parking lot across the street on the corner. read more

I worked at Oakstop for a few days over 3 weeks to help with text banking as a contract worker for Vote.org. The space was very nice and easily accessible by BART, which was nice because some of the work shifts started as early as 6am. Upon entering, there are three floors of various workspaces and bathrooms on each floor. I worked primarily in the basement. A large room with lots of desks and laptops so people could work. It could get a little hot and noisy with the number of people coming in and out at all hours, but it was good for what it was. I can see how artists and scholars and community members could utilize the various rooms and space for a diverse array of projects. It was a great place to work and I'd love to come back in the future for more events. read more

I hosted a nonprofit educational workshop here in Spring 2016 and have nothing but good things to say about every aspect of working with Oakstop. From the very beginning they were extremely responsive and helpful. The space itself is warm and welcoming. The staff took the time to give me a great tour of the facility and took great care in making sure that the rooms that they provided us were a perfect fit for our needs. Our program staff and clients loved the space--they found the location convenient, the facilities to be very comfortable and the staff hospitable. We are excited to continue using Oakstop for our workshops in future! I recommend Oakstop without hesitation to anyone looking for a site for their professional or personal events. I am putting on a community class here at OakStop. I contacted many places to price venues. Oakstop responded to my inquiry the following day and kept prompt, super genuine and friendly communication the entire process. I have interacted with quite a few of the employees either by e-mail or when I come to the building and have had nothing but great assistance and interactions. I have come to other events hosted at Oakstop outside of the one I facilitate and they all have a dope community building flare to them. The rooms have everything needed to host a meeting live and virtual. The building is safe, clean, bright, dope art on the walls, very convenient access by public transportation and I feel supported as community member and non-profit in Oakland. I was so excited when I found Oakstop and felt good about paying market rate for a space with such an aligned mission despite the hiccups leading up to the event. Sadly, on event day, the place was dirty, the tech was so bad that they set up our Webcam without paying attention to whether or not it was pointed at us. We missed being able to present as part of our virtual event because they never hooked up the audio. And that wasn't all. The contact person for rentals was rude and difficult to set up a meeting. When I asked him about not following up the three times he said he would call, he didn't apologize. He just said to me that he was very busy. The person who was slated to do tech was not there and the team members who were there were incompetent. It was so deeply disappointing. I emailed the next day asking that a portion of my payment be refunded. I'm still waiting for even an acknowledgment of my email. If you have something important, I wouldn't trust it to this team. If you have time to do your own tech and clean up on your own, perhaps it's worth paying the $175 per hour. read more

Love this spot for coworking. We've done dedicated desks for a few months now and have no regrets. The people working at Oakstop are great, the other coworkers are nice, and usually work for nonprofits or other social good projects. It's an unfancy spot, a little scrappy, but gets the job done and is in a great location downtown by the bart. read more
