It really amazes me how early people eat pho. I looked it up and people actually eat this for breakfast. I guess it's similar to Mexicans and our menudo. We went to Pho Viet since it was one of the only Pho places open relatively late. I got the #40 Pho Dac Biet. The pho itself was solid. The meat was pretty tender, which I also liked, and the noodles were cooked well. But the broth was a little bland and was just missing something. Our food did take some time to come out, but the owners were super nice and never rushed us, even though it was close to closing. Overall, it was pretty solid. Tai Sach pho. I'm not Vietnamese, but this is the only thing I can order in Vietnamese. You know this pho will be amazing because the soup glistens with oil. The broth stewing and simmering for days on end in the cold winter nights. Wonderfully filling your stomach with noodles of joy and meat. Got three different spring rolls, the duck, vegetable, and the shrimp. The sauce that went with the spring roll was generic but good. All three were pretty okay spring rolls. Surprisingly, my favorite was the vegetable one. Got the appetizer bo xue which was my favorite appetizer. It was crispy and flavors pretty good when you wrap it up in lettuce and dip it in the fish sauce. Got three other entrees and the bun Bo hue was good but not that spicy. My friends recommended this place but unfortunately this place was not a hit for me. A group of six of us had dinner on a Sunday evening. They have a lot of space, good for private events. Service was quick. However, menus need to be updated as there were sharpie written over with different prices. I ordered the Bun Heo Nuong Tom because I love vermicelli bowls. I came here on a summer day when it was particularly hot and humid. The restaurant smelled dank. I thought maybe the A/C or exhaust was broken. Then the waiters came out. Not sure if they still work there now but they did not smell good. They are of a certain ethnicity which is different from the cuisine. I feel really bad to say that it gives me poor hygiene vibes. I did place my order nonetheless, for takeout. I had to leave the place because it smelled like dirty laundry. I did comeback to pick up the order. I came here on a Wednesday evening with my partner. I was in the mood for some bun bo hue because of how cold it has been in Chicago. I ordered the pork and shrimp spring roll as an appetizer to start us off because I was really hungry. The sauce that came with the spring roll was a little weird to us so we ended up using hot sauce that was on the table. The Bun Bo hue was really good. I wish they had the pork knuckle or pork blood in there but other than that, I don't really have any complaints. The soup was really good and then there was a good kick of spiciness in every slurp. I was really satisfied by the end of the meal. My partner just had the regular pho with flank steak, but in a large size. He was super satisfied, so that was a good sign. The restaurant is really big but I guess when we went at 8pm they had closed off half of it since there weren't a ton of customers. The owner was really nice and our orders were taken pretty quickly. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The food is phenomenal and the service is honestly above and beyond. What's even more impressive is that I have only ever ordered from them through delivery, yet they still manage to make me feel like a loyal regular. This was not the Pho Viet of old. I was in town with a group of people and decided to stop by this old haunt. 10-15 years ago, this was a pretty decent place. However, that was then. 1. Food - 1 star. we ordered Pho and a few other soup options. In general, the broth was bland and did not taste like the chef put anything authentically Viet in it. 2. Ambiance - 3 stars. Typical Asian eating environment. Nothing has changed much in the last decade. 3. Service - 3 stars. The staff was willing but did not seem enthusiastic about anticipating our needs. Came here late on a Tuesday night for a take out order. I ordered the Chao Vit (basically a rice porridge congee soup). It contained shredded duck, green onions, cilantro, ginger, and fish sauce. I actually ate it for lunch the next day, but after heating it up it was still delicious! I want to come back here and try their other many dishes. In addition to the dining area they have a huge party area with a full stage. Our server Creed was excellent and super friendly. Well portioned and tasty. We had both had pho. I had beef and my wife had vegetarian. Delicious! If I wasn't full I would try all of their extensive menu. I really want to get some Bahn xeo (sp?) Vietnamese crepes. 4.5 stars: A lot of people have recommended this spot to me, and I was glad to have tried it! The space is huge and very spacious-- good for groups both large and small. There weren't that many people there for Friday lunch and my friends and I were seated immediately. The service was attentive, quick, and food came out quickly. I ordered the Mi Quang, a staple dish of Central Vietnam. It was delicious, though the noodles were a bit flavorless and overcooked compared to the rest of the dish components and I wish there was even just a little more broth in it. Otherwise, the ingredients (shrimp, chicken, pork, greens) were fresh, eclectic, and all came together cohesively. The broth was excellent: rich, hearty, and savory-- wonderful umami flavors. We also shared a Vietnamese Spinach vegetable dish, which came with a bowl of rice, and was sautéed well. The garlic flavor was strong, aromatic, and made the dish taste very fresh. I also tried some of the Tofu Banh Mi, which was okay (but very fairly priced-- $7.50, which is among the very cheapest I've seen in Argyle so far). The bread was flaky and well toasted, and the sandwich as a whole tasted fresh and good-- just a little dry. Prices have increased (as they have everywhere) and the changes are listed on the front of the menu, but overall it's still very affordable and a great value! Pho Viet has been our Viet spot now for the last 4 years and we have taken many of our friends to this restaurant. It's our go-to when I'm missing my mom's cooking. My cousin and I wanted to take some time out before she left for college. She stumbled around this place and it was pretty decent. We ordered 2 viet iced coffees and a order of spring rolls. We both ordered a Pho, she ordered a medium and I ordered a large. I didn't finish it since the wait was pretty long and I lost my hunger for a bit , haha. I'd give the pho a 8/10 for size and flavor. My mouth somehow gets dry everytime I drink pho soup, so it's kinda weird and the portion size for noodles and soup is so big! I'd give the coffee a 9.5/10! I wish it was a little less thick and more coffee instead of ice, but nonetheless, it was sooo delicious and I'd highly recommend this! I'd give the spring rolls : 9/10! Super delicious, crunchy, tasty, filling and much more. I would definitely recommend this and we thought about ordered another one! Customer service wasn't terrible. It was a Tuesday, so Pho Viet was the only Vietnamese restaurant open in Argyle. This is an excellent business decision. Pho Viet has a massive menu, the length of which rivals Nha Hang's, but unfortunately the quality doesn't touch the other restaurants in the area. Pho with steak and tendon - the broth was on the sweet side, very heavy on the star anise, but missing the steeping-bone depth of a broth that's had a lot of attention and time paid to it. The steak was well-cooked, but the tendon was a bit gummier and had a strong chlorine-y aftertaste. Shrimp egg rolls - the taste was fine, but the texture was bizarre. Nice and crispy skin, but it was like they put the filling in a blender and turned it into paste before filling the egg rolls with it. The best dish was the ca kho to with the addition of pork and crispy pork skins. However, it wasn't really what I would call ca kho to since there was little to no caramelization - just a brown spicy sauce. Regardless, it was tasty, with plenty of fish and crisp fat that melted in your mouth. read more
