We had a speedy lunch at Pho Tres Bien Bistro. The place was almost empty but somehow our server was chatting with the cook in the kitchen. We had a new server who was really learning on the job in her first day. Lovely young lady with a daring smile; and a great attitude saying "i can do that". We ordered some Vietnamese Spring rolls that could have been less oily. A great Spicy Beef Noodle soup. My son had a Pho with some brisket and tendon. Overall the food was solid but not as good as the original Pho Tres Bien on Gateway. Service was slow at the start but really efficient and friendly thereafter. Hands down probably the best broth I've had in the entire country!!! I've been here several of times before now but I just stopped myself from devouring the delicious food before taking a picture for this review. So, I spoiled the review around the seventeenth word but sometimes excitement does that to me. I always order the same thing, although I have tasted other dishes. It's just too good for me to try and get something else. The tofu is good and comes with some flavor of its own. The curry is not spicy but the salsa you can add does the trick. The parking test passed. The location allows for that in comfortable quantities. The service was good and although we didn't find our favorite taro flavor tea we did get a good recommendation. The ambiance is set out for you to just enjoy the company and low light while looking out to Mesa's never-ending constructions. If you're looking for a good curry and tofu, look no further. Finally! Pho Tre Bien has made it's way to the Westside! And it's everything I was hoping it would be. If you're a fan of the original PTB, you'll love this spot too. I decided to head here for lunch on one of my solo excursions and this was actually kind of perfect for dining alone. Don't get me wrong, this is still a great place to eat with a friend or even a small group, but it's just comfortable enough with window-side tables that eating alone doesn't make you feel like a monster with no friends. Everything about the ambiance is quite wonderful really. The day I went, each table had a little vase with a couple of pink carnations. This bistro uses a nice mix of wood, brick, and tile throughout the tiny space. Even though it's tucked away into a pretty modest plaza, I didn't feel it from inside PTBB. I also really liked the patio area which had beautiful flowers in full bloom and a few tables. I think next time (if it isn't too hot) that's where I'll sit. The patio also leads me to believe they may be dog friendly, but I'll ask next time around. The food and service are exactly the same which in this case is a good thing. I ordered the Charbroiled Ribeye (which also happens to be the very first dish that I ordered at the OG Pho Tre Bien). Just as delicious as it's ever been. Just a heads up, by American standards this is a small dish (but it does have a lot of rice and rice is pretty filling) so I like to think this is the perfect dish for lunch or a light dinner. I can't remember exactly how much my drink and food ran me up, but it had to be in the ballpark of $15. I just remember it was exactly what I expected from my previous experiences with PTB. I also saw that they run a lunch special here. I saw it after I had ordered, but it was around $7 which is a pretty sweet deal on any meal here. I really love this newly opened spot and it definitely is up to par with what I've come accustomed to from PTB. One of the best locally owned restaurants in EP! This place is a smaller version of their main restaurant, Pho Tre Bien. The restaurant itself is definitely smaller in size, but the service is just as quick. Although, competitive to their main restaurant, they are definitely lacking in terms of quality. For their pho alone: the broth is just as good but I definitely think that the do not have as much meat and veggies as they do at the main restaurant for the same price. I would definitely rather take the drive to their main Pho Tre Bien place off of Gateway Boulevard. read more

Negatives: Been here a few times, and the pho...not good. I'm talking specifically about the beef pho. The broth is waaaaay too watery and lacks rich flavor like a true pho beef broth. When I order rare meat, I want to see pink when it is served! Not a chunk of cooked meat plopped in a bowl. The meat is also oddly thick. It should be delicately sliced so that it can cook quickly in front of your eyes. Instead I felt like I was biting into a dense chopped hot dog. Positives: The appetizers are reliable and affordable. Spring rolls with peanut sauce and chicken skewers are my favorite. The ambiance is nice, and the flowing stream creates a soothing outdoor patio feel, and dim lighting makes you feel transported to a calm, relaxing location. Strangely, the thai tea is pretty good! Not sure how someone thought that the 2 orders of egg rolls burnt this badly were edible. This would never be served dine in. Seems like they're trying to get away with bad quality food due to the fact that it's carry out only and your food is packed up beforehand. The Pho was decent. The Taro boba tea had chunks of ice in it and the boba were over cooked as well, thus very mushy. Ultimately we did not consume half of our order tonight. We went here for lunch before my class started. We went at 12 on a Monday. We were lucky and got the last inside table. There is not too much inside seating there is also a few outside tables. Worst "pho" I have ever encountered, hands down, and possibly the worst takeout food, period. "Broth" was literally water. Unfortunately the service is no better. Called to ask for a refund - we paid $25 for two bowls of warm water and two bags of days-expired bean sprouts - and was refused because we used the phone the next day to report their mistake instead of immediately putting our two year old back in the car and driving another 30 mile round trip to tell them what happened. Was offered another bowl of warm water instead. Save your money - Saigon Taste is just down the street, and values customer satisfaction. Update...coming thru the neighborhood today w family and decided to take them up on offer of a replacement bowl. Having never eaten Ph (also known as pho), I was a little reluctant to try ethnic food after I last tried Korean and desensitized most of my tastebuds for almost a week. My misconception has always been that ethnic foods are all comprised of bold flavors and piquant spice. Thankfully, Pho Tre Bien has refuted this notion. It's a rare moment when I enjoy being wrong. The delightful flavors and aromatic qualities of each sauce, protein and vegetable are well-balanced on the palate. It was a nice surprise to find sophisticated and transparent culinary techniques at such a quaint location.  We started with a simple appetizer of shrimp spring rolls. They were pleasant and had a thin wrapper of rice paper, served with a light chocolate sauce with peanuts, along with an assortment of dipping sauces. I at least attempted the Sriracha and Hoisin sauce, but I am a little wimpy about the heat. I typically only request water when I'm trying something new, so that my palate is not influenced. The Thai Tea is an authentic beverage, with a light sweetness from the tapioca pearls, served in a bright orange color (which is a result of the type of tea used). For the main dish, I ordered the Pho with chicken breast, which came with a plate of optional toppings, as well as the Pan Fried Noodles (Vermicelli) with Beef. The bean sprouts, jalapeño slices, onions, a bit of lime, and cilantro changed the chicken Pho into a hearty soup. Not a single ingredient overpowered the other, but rather worked together to establish a true level of umami. The vermicelli was served in a modern presentation, much like a little nest, with a thin layer of spice and broth along the bottom of the bowl, lightly saturating the cabbage, thin noodles, sliced beef, chopped vegetables (carrots, broccoli and onions). It was easy to manage with chopsticks, but thankfully Pho Tre Bien is up with the times and also offers silverware.  The service was superb as well. Acting the role of hostess/ front of the house/ server, Gracie was friendly, knowledgeable and hip. She was quick to offer suggestions and made sure we felt welcomed. I definitely will be returning. While this particular location is a bit smaller than neighboring ethnic food restaurants, the ambiance was charming and homey.   When you're in the area, consider Pho Tre Bien, rather than the usual fast and easy fallback choices in the Kernplace area, like Whataburger, McDonald's or Taco Bell. Your palate deserves a better experience. It's also nice that the location extends, in case you need a more quiet area. read more

The Pho was delicious. We both had the Brisket Pho. It came with plenty of veg but Cilantro instead of Basil Leaves. Im taking off a star cos the Pho was not served hot enough temperature wise. It should've been piping hot. That & Basil Leaves would've made it perfect. Having said that, the service certainly makes up for it, ths staff are impecable and polite, their service would earn them 5 stars! It gets busy around noon so try to arrive for an earlier or later lunch, unless you fancy waiting or sitting outside or at the bar. Really yummy pho! I always order the chicken pho, and it's never a bad idea! The broth is flavorful and just so good!! They always bring you a side of bean sprouts parsley and lime! I personally don't think the pho needs any extra sauce because it's so flavorful on its own! You have the option of switching out your noodles for yellow noodles which is also really great depending what you are in the mood for. I think that aside from the amazing flavor, the cleanliness of this restaurant and how trendy it is really sets it apart from the other restaurants that have pho. Service here is terrible and slow! We were a party of 6 and waited an hour and still got nothing. When I asked the waiter how much longer he acted like he didn't even know we were waiting for food. As we were leaving they brought out ONE bowl and they acted like we were being unreasonable for leaving. I would not give them any stars if that was an option! This is not the first time I've had an issue with slow service here either, but it is ridiculous and I'm never going back. There is another location off of i10 and Hawkins. Small portions. I paid $15 for a small Bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup) and a pork banh mi. This chain is very Americanized and the dishes reflect it. The pho is ok but very small. The service is slow. I liked the "bun bo hue" but it tasted nothing like the real thing. It's good if you don't know what it's supposed to taste like (good for El Paso). However it was very spicy. We usually love coming here. The last two times we have gotten it to go though the meat and broth have been completely short with the quantity. We ordered two large (one rare steak, one meatball) and the brother barely filled our small bowls at home. The meat consisted of 1 cut up meatball and barely any steak at all. So this place was a bit off compared to the original spot off the 10 and even the express off fred wilson. Though its just as small as the Express spot, its more cool and divey. The service was pretty good but kinda funny. I sat myself since I didnt see a sign to be waited nor did anyone acknowledge otherwise. But i spotted a half booth table and asked a waitress walking by if that was available. She said yes, so i sat myself there. It was pretty busy and packed at lunch hour, so i shrugged it off. She informed me that they'll be with me in a moment, so i was eased. My waiter came soon after and i was able to order my hot tea, water, and my chicken pho all at once. He brought out my hot tea, no water, but figured it would come later. Being by myself, i brought all my stuff with me to use the bathroom, leaving just the tea on the table. When i come back after a few mins, my tea was gone. Lol. It was pretty funny. I hadda let him know someone took it, and he was confused about it so i reiterated what just happened. At least i got my tea back, still no water tho lol. Aside from that, their food was also a bit off. The broth was more salty, kinda more fish sauce tasting instead of smooth and velvety like the other spots. And it was more on the luke warm side which was disappointing since i was a lil sick and needed that hot kick for my throat and sinuses. This is honestly my favorite place in all of El Paso to get pho! I go here almost every week just to spend some time on my own, read a book and study. I always order the vegetarian rice noddle soup and occasionally the tofu spring rolls. I absolutely love it and it always leaves me feeling full and happy! Sometimes you luck you and there's no one else in the restaurant but sometimes it can be a little packed. This restaurant offers the best Vietnamese food I have had in El Paso. My wife and I had the chargrilled pork spring rolls, a rare beef pho, and a combination pho. The first thing I check when having pho is the taste of the broth. The broth was excellent. In fact, everything was excellent, even the flavor of the fish sauce condiment. We had small bowls, which were plenty large enough. I can imagine the large bowls must be huge.
