I also appreciate how they package it to-go, since I always call in and take it back to the office. I had a pretty average pho experience here. The bowls of pho come in small and large. The small was enough to fill me up, but it was almost all noodles and very few pieces of beef flanks. That was a little disappointing. Broth was average. This pho place is definitely in a convenient location and settles your pho cravings, so I'm not really complaining! The service was average as well. The only part I found strange was how limiting they were with utensils. You would only get a pair of chopsticks if you were positive that you'd use them. Also, if you accept the chopsticks, the waiters immediately take your other utensils (fork and knife) away. I guess this cuts back on dishwashing, but I found that to be a bit odd. I guess I'm a bit spoiled since I come from Philly, where we have a whole section of town that's dominantly Vietnamese food, so my pho choices are endless. Hands down, one of the best Thai and Pho places I have had in this area. The food is fresh, tasty and portioned well. The selection is wide-- I recall Thai and Vietnamese food being the featured types. Between the two of us, we had one salad, two entrees, an appetizer and one limeade and the bill was about $20 per person. The staff's service is hit and miss; over our hour long meal, we had three servers; the young woman was the most attentive, but still nowhere near overbearing. Street parking can be a bit of a problem; there is a garage nearby. Credit cards are accepted. I would certainly recommend coming here! read more

One of the only Pho places near UMD so I'm sure the college students flock here. Visited right before closing on a weekday and got attentive service and decent pho. Ordered steamed potstickers and they completely fell apart when I picked them up with chopsticks. The bean sprouts smelled spoiled when they were delivered to the table. I asked for a replacement dish of accompaniments (basil, sprouts, jalapeños) and it was delivered with no problem. The broth was not bland, but it wasn't flavorful either. This places rules and I was definitely hooked from the moment I first took a bite out of the round-eye steak. The Route 1 corridor has some notable pho restaurants but downtown CP was lacking in this department until now. Pho Thom serves both Vietnamese pho as well as several Thai dishes. I've only had the pho here but it's so good I'm not sure I wanna try anything else! I've gotten the P-1 (standard round-eye beef pho) both times I've been here along with the crispy spring rolls. If you order a large size pho then you get a generous serving of flavorful broth, tender beef (have yet to get an unchewable chunk of beef) and plenty of noodles. If that's not enough then one can always opt to add extra noodles or meat for a small charge. The spring rolls come with a thick dipping sauce rather than the more liquid sauce I've usually encountered and it has a bit of a spicy kick to it. Definitely recommend starting your meal with them. I think the best part of Pho Thom is the price. For about $20 before tip, my friend and I get a large and small pho, an order of spring rolls, and a tea. That's a great deal especially considering how delicious the pho is here. Service has always been very friendly if a bit slow sometimes. I'll definitely be coming here again, especially when I don't wanna drive out to Beltsville. read more

My experience in a nutshell: Skip anything Vietnamese here, and order Thai. I ordered several dishes to share with one more person, and everything was phenomenal. Piping hot, flavorful, decent-sized portions. Service varies. Sometimes it's very warm and friendly, and sometimes it's slow and choppy. It's a little annoying how inconsistent is, but I'll give them a pass, as they're fairly new. Note to business: Change your name or improve your pho recipe. In my opinion, Pho Thom has the best Thai food in the CP area. Their pho is also delicious (despite the regular size being a lot smaller than I am used to). My favorite dish to get here is the Pad See Ew with chicken. The portion you get is substantial and the taste is out of this world. However, if you don't like food that is on the sweet side I would recommend the Pad Kee Mao instead. My only complaint is that I wish they used Chinese broccoli instead of regular broccoli. I haven't tried the Pad Thai, but my friends who get that dish here really enjoy it. The pho here is also really good. The broth has a great taste and isn't too salty/MSG tasting. You also get a good portion of meat. Like I stated earlier, the regular size is a pretty small so if you are looking to be filled I would suggest getting the large for $1 more. 4.5 stars first of all. This is my new Chipotle! I'm surprised at all the not so stellar reviews... This is my new favorite place to eat in College Park. I am in LOVE with the food, however I only get the same dish everytime and this is the only Vietnamese restaurant I've ever been to. Pros: Absolutely delicious food at a very competitive price. My hat goes off to the chef everytime. Short time from ordering to plating. ~8-10min. Cons: I can relate to the other reviewers where the service could be "lousy" so to say. Check takes awhile to get, and I've seen the servers lounging around while there are customers. But they are very nice, approachable, and easy to converse with. Conclusion: They have my business until I graduate. As long as they keep making the food delicious at a great price (I walk out paying around $10 with tip, perfect for my budget). One of my favorite restaurants in CP! Personally think their pho broth is one of the most flavorful I've ever had, and they are pretty generous with their meat. Also would highly recommend their pad kee Mao (one of the best drunken noodles, super flavorful and noodles have good texture), curry fried rice (so good- light curry flavor with slight sweetness from pineapples), and basil fried rice (more savory with good basil flavor). Their pla pow wahn is also really delicious- the fish is lightly fried and the sweet and sour sauce isn't too overpowering, really complements the fish! I went here on a Friday date night and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. From the outside the place pretty much looks like a tiny take out joint but inside the dim lighting and Asian decor were very tasteful. Throughout the meal there were a good amount of people there, mostly families and couples. We were given water immediately and yes, they didn't give straws and we had to ask but it wasn't a big deal at all. One of the guys also asked if we were ready to order about 30 seconds after we sat down but that also wasn't a big deal, we just asked him to come back. The female waitress was super friendly and smiley and just made us feel welcome. It was clear that she was a favorite of many as a few regulars greeted her with hugs when walking in the place. We started off the meal with an order of spring rolls. They weren't anything special but the sauce offered some nice added flavor and the wrapping gave a nice crunch. I also liked that there weren't any pieces of unidentifiable food items within. For the main course I ordered the pad kee mao with chicken extra spicy. I was super pleased with the dish! Unlike most places, they actually made it nice and spicy as I had requested. The dish wasn't too oily and the noodles were cooked well. I ended up leaving the restaurant nice and full and happy that I had found my go to Asian take out place. read more

This place is like a magnet. My cousin and I can not stop coming here. We are Thai and evaluate Thai food pretty harshly, "Is it good? Is it like home?" Of course, there's nothing like home. But we love this place because it's good enough (yeah - we're tough!) to hold us over before we get to our family's. There's always talk of authenticity. There is a tipping point. If it's too real, it may scare off less adventurous diners. If it's too mainstream, it risks being unrecognizable and a place that no Thai person would try. This place serves up a good balance. The prices are pretty good too. Most food places, both fast food and restaus, in the area have meals for about $8. Spend the same amount here and get something awesome. Do your tummy a favor and try something fresh, like a papaya salad with shrimp or the spicy ground chicken in lime juice. My go-to dish... basil fried rice with chicken. If you get it medium spicy, you'll end up inhaling it. Go-to drink... limeade soda. Together, this is one of the best meals for a hot summer day. read more

I would say that this play is only okay. The pho here is mediocre. I ordered a large bowl with raw beef and when it came out, the meat was fully cooked. Even though I got a large, there was barely any meat in the bowl. The broth has some flavor but not as good as VN One a few miles down the street. The Thai dishes were a little better. They just need a little bit more heat. The dishes were good but there is barely any heat to give the dishes the kick it needs. I didn't see any option to spice up your meal on the menu but I assume they would do it for you if you asked. The restaurant also lacks a Thai spice rack which would help customers add more spice if they liked. The prices were average: 7.50$ for a large bowl of pho; 7-10$ for a Thai entree (depending on your choice of meat) If I were to come here again, I would avoid the Pho and get the Thai food. read more

Good Thai and Vietnamese place. It was a Tuesday night, and we were wandering around the area looking for somewhere good to eat. This place had a bunch of diners, including several tables of Asians (promising!). We were in a Thai mood, so we decided to check it out. I was very happy with everything I ordered. The satay was great, and the sauces were really good. My Thai green curry was spicy but not too bad, and the curry was saucy but had plenty of vegetables. The Thai iced tea was fantastic - creamy and sweet without being sickly sweet. My friend had two, they were so good. I got a Vietnamese coffee at the end, which was delicious (again, not too sweet), but really large - more the size of a Starbucks coffee than the smaller size I expect a Vietnamese coffee to be. The food came out quickly and the service was okay - not the best, but the waiter came whenever we called. If I was in the area and wanted Thai, I wouldn't hesitate to come back here. The only thing that was too bad is that they don't serve alcohol. But that's what Thai iced tea is for! read more

We order for pick up and when I got there I gave them the name on the order which my wife had ordered the food for me pick up after work but oh boy they did NOT want to give me my food because I would provide them with the order number, giving them the FULL name was not enough and they rudely kept living me aside, going on to help other customers without any intentions to try to help me, or even telling me we'll be back. Once I requested it with bean spouts and once without. It's delicious either way. I feel like I have discovered a hidden gem. I fancy Pho Tom so much! And the staff, they're super nice people. Second time here this week. Deplorable customer service the first time but everyone has bad days. Came back this evening and was told the front area of the joint was closed and we could not sit there, we obliged and sat elsewhere. Fast forward 15 mins and a white guy and his Asian wife and baby come in and sit and are served right there. The guy told my girlfriend they sat without permission, but he also didnt ask them to move since the section was "closed" supposedly because they cleaned it already. Delicious! The pad kee mao is to die for, especially with beef. I tend to stay away from beef at places life this for fear of it being stringy and dry, but none of that here! The meet is incredibly tender and lovely. Their rice dishes are also delicious. In terms of their pho, I was a tad disappointed because it was less flavorful than I was hoping. They do bring you a plethora of sauces to add at your discretion, which added a huge punch of flavor. Pho Thom is a decent Thai and Vietnamese restaurant, especially for one that is right in the middle of College Park. It's almost a breath of fresh air to encounter a nice sit-down restaurant such as this in the midst of fast food joints (e.g. Chipotle, Subway, Noodles & Co., and Boston Market) and bars. As I walked in, I noticed the decor was quite nice and struck a slightly Asian tone with some bamboo sticks and miniature Asian sculptures dotting the entrance. The waiter seated me and my friends promptly and gave us the menus. I skimmed the menu and noticed a mix of Thai dishes and Vietnamese dishes; the ubiquitous pho dishes of Vietnam and the well-known Pad Thai of Thailand stuck out. I decided to order the chicken with peppers, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts (I forgot the exact name of it) while my friends ordered Pad Thai, pho, and tom kha gai soup, and we all ordered two orders of the Vietnamese summer rolls, each order consisting of two rolls. The rolls contained a nice balance of noodles, vegetables, and shrimp (I think), and were very good overall. My dish was very spicy, which I didn't mind because I love spicy food. But, this was extraordinarily spicy, and I had to ask the waiter three times to refill my large cup of water. One thing I didn't really like was that the portion size was quite small, especially for dinner. I noticed the portion size of my friend's (large) pho was also pretty meager, while my other friend's Pad Thai looked just about right for dinner. Honestly, I didn't feel satisfied after finishing my entire dish, so when I went home I ate a few snacks. Service overall was good. Our waiter checked up on us quite frequently and refilled our water cups often. The only downsides were the small portions and the lack of flavor as compared to other Vietnamese and Thai restaurants I have been to. But I give this place credit for providing nice food and a nice atmosphere in the middle of a college town. read more

Service: I would have given this place two stars for lack of service a while back, but I can happily say that service is no longer an issue.Waitresses are nicer than they were when the place opened a few years back and food doesn't take as long to come out. The only reason I took off a star was because it takes a good while to get and process the check. I would understand if the restaurant was overly crowded, but we went in the afternoon on a weekday and there was only one other party. Other than that minor speed bump, I think this place has really turned around! I also remember a friend of mine complaining about finding a hair in his food. I had a conversation with one of the staff and she assured me that if I ever found anything of the nature, I would receive two plates of the same dish, one to eat in house, and one to-go. Food: I love the pho and drunken noodles here. The pad thai is probably the best in the area. The only problem I have is the serving size. I could probably eat two or three times the portions offered here. My recommendation definitely lies in the drunken noodles though. On another note, when I order my food spicy at most other restaurants, I get a serving of food with black pepper and crushed red pepper moderately tossed onto it. Here, I am always asked, "sir did you want it just spicy or THAI spicy?". I can't tell you how excited I was to try the spicier option. I received my plate and my friend took a bite. He literally drank his full glass of water and ran to the bathroom. Granted my friend isn't very tolerant of spicy foods, the dish still packed a punch. I highly recommend ordering a "thai spicy" meal for all of you spicemonkeys. Environment: Small and modest looking set up with traditional decorations and plants on the corners. I can't say much about the pho here since I've never had it, but everything else I've tried has been pretty good. The curry fried rice is great if you can appreciate dishes that are actually spicy (a rarity in a lot of restaurants). I've had the pad thai twice, once with shrimp and once with chicken. The dish was great both times, but I think I prefer it with shrimp. While the amount of chicken was plentiful, there was just something about the texture and flavor of the meat that was a bit off. I'm sure there are some dishes that are misses rather than hits, but that's to be expected, especially from a small restaurant with a pretty extensive menu (everything except dessert!). Most of the things I've tried (curry, shrimp in a blanket, fried tofu appetizer, spicy seafood salad, pad thai, pad kee mao) have been solid dishes. The portions are huge too! Maybe it varies depending on the day, but I've always had good service when I've eaten here. Even when we had a large group, they were very accommodating. The waiter and waitress are both very friendly and the food comes out quickly too. You can also hear the sizzling of the food being cooked in the kitchen, which heightens the anticipation (for me anyway). Overall, Pho Thom is a great place to eat Asian food and have real sit-down service within walking distance from campus.
